Honeybees are being infected with parasitical maggots that are laying eggs inside the bees. These ZomBees were first discovered at SF State’s Hensill Hall in the northern corner of the campus by entomologist and Biology professor John Hafernik and his research team.
Graduate student Christopher Quock is conducting an experiment on the ZomBees and the process of bees being infected through a system of tagging them with tiny microchips that can be read by lasers mounted at the entrance of a manmade monitoring beehive.
The team has asked people nationwide to be aware of and begin collecting the slow-moving/immobile bees found on the ground or near lights or light-traps to be submitted for research.

I was really pleased how this graphic turned out. My client supplied me with a simple vector plot of their latest microchip. Then I dressed it up in Photoshop to look like a silicon micrograph. Finally, using this new asset, I created the graphic you see above. The goal was a high-concept visualization of a small microchip with many resources on the inside.

After soldering these by hand (and without the magnifying glass that's cracked) it was time for a lie down, and to book in at the opticians for an eye test - if they ever come unstuck from being cross-eyed that is!
Louie is a 12 week old Maltese that had strayed from home. Thankfully he had a microchip and so we were able to reunite him with his family.

In grad school I worked on some software for medical imagery being used at U of C. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever worked on and since then I've been obsessed.
