Microchip Technology's 14-member dsPIC33EP “GS” family of Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs) delivers the performance needed to implement more sophisticated non-linear, predictive and adaptive control algorithms at higher switching frequencies. These advanced algorithms enable power supply designs that are more energy efficient and have better power supply specifications. Higher switching frequencies enable the development of physically smaller power supplies that offer higher densities and lower costs. Compared with the previous generation of DSCs, the new dsPIC33EP “GS” devices provide less than half the latency, when used in a three-pole three-zero compensator, and consume up to 80% less power in any application.

This new dsPIC33EP “GS” family includes advanced features such as Live Update Flash capability, which is especially helpful for high-availability or “always-on” systems. Live Update can be used to change the firmware of an operating power supply, including the active compensator calculation code, while maintaining continuous regulation. Variants from this new digital-power-optimized DSC family are available in an industry’s-smallest, 4 x 4 mm UQFN package for space-constrained designs. Got the new ID card today. All plastic and microchips. Accompanied with 3 different guides - PINs, EULA and User Guide. So amount of paper that I got together with card was larger than card in size/weight/information... Welcome to the digital century (or maybe we are not there yet)

Special love for User Guide for letting me know that:

- on cover side, printed: ID card is valid for 10 years

- penciled in correction: 5, not 10

- on other side: certificates are valid *up to* 3 years

Thanks for making that clear.

Ah, and also, on the same subject - I filed for new IDc as to replace the lost old one. Email that invited me to receive the new IDc casually confirmed that my identity will be authenticated based on the old (lost - in whos possession - unknown) IDc ( Isikutunnistus väljastatakse Teile isiklikult isiktunnistuse nr. A0xxxxxxxxx esitamisel. Uue isikutunnistuse kättesaamisel muudetakse eelmine isikutunnistus kehtetuks.). They were willing to auth me based on paper passport though...

This is the substrate that microchips are lithographically printed on. They're mass produced in this wafer form, and then later cut down, and packaged into dies. These particular wafers contain mostly RAM. They were manufactured for Ford Aerospace back in the mid 1980s.

If you view this image in it's original size, you can zoom all the way in, and resolve the details of individual transistors. Just a year or two later, that would no longer have been possible without much more powerful microscopes. The transistors etched onto these wafers are positively huge by modern standards...hundreds, or thousands of times larger.

I find the closeup look to be, by far, the more interesting of the two. Most of the disc isn't quite so damaged, but I kinda like highlighting the flaws. A cat may, or may not have sat on it/entertained himself with it at some point.

The four new members of Microchip's PIC16F1579 Family are offered in 14 to 20-pin packages with up to 28 KB of Flash and feature CIPs that enable functions in a broad range of applications, such as LED lighting and motor control. Microchip Technology's low pin-count 16-bit eXtreme Low Power (XLP) PIC24F32KA304 MCUs feature on-chip 12-bit ADC, EEPROM, intelligent mTouch™ capacitive sensing, and the capability to run from a 5V supply. The MCUs feature extremely low sleep currents down to 20 nA, for which all XLP PIC MCUs are known.

Microchip expanded its serial SRAM portfolio with four new devices that feature the industry’s largest densities and speeds. They are also the industry’s first with 5V operation, which remains prevalent in automotive and industrial applications. These 512 Kb and 1 Mb SPI devices maintain the portfolio’s low power consumption and small, 8-pin packages at the low starting cost of $1.16 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Speeds of up to 80 Mbps are achieved via the quad-SPI, or SQI™, protocol, providing the zero write-cycle times with near instantaneous data movement needed for offloading graphics, data buffering, data logging, displays, math, audio, video and other data-intensive functions.

Two additional family members—the 23LCV512 and 23LCV1024—offer the industry’s most cost-effective options for non-volatile, unlimited-endurance RAM, via battery backup. In fact, with their fast dual-SPI (SDI) throughput of 40 Mbps and low active and sleep currents, these serial NVSRAM devices feature high-speed operation without the high pin counts of parallel NVSRAM, and comparable power consumption to FRAM, all at a fraction of the price. This is beneficial for applications such as meters, black boxes and other data recorders, which require unlimited endurance or instantaneous writes along with non-volatile storage. For more info, visit: www.microchip.com/sram

Microchip removed from the bin.

Question is, would residents be fined for removing these? Bear in mind that the local authority (Aylesbury Vale District Council) never mentioned that these were installed, they were hoping they would go unnoticed.

Lame explanations in the local paper about they would be used in the future for rewarding recycling. Excuse came out after being found out.

No-one has a problem with recycling, it's the sneaky way these are introduced and they fact that they think they can get away with taking us for fools.
