The soul unto itself
Is an imperial friend, --
Or the most agonizing spy
An enemy could send.
Secure against its own,
No treason it can fear;
Itself its sovereign, of itself
The soul should stand in awe.

Some notes about the image.
We see the girl, looking somewhere outside the image frame. There is also a tree brunch above her, and a big vertical empty space between the girl and the leaves of a tree above her.
We don't know what the girl is looking at, if something is happening there, and what attracts her attention in particular. The space separating her from the object she is looking at is reduced, but the spatial intrigue, about her look seems unresolved.
However the term "intrigue" is applicable only if we look upon the picture as a narrative with some plot referring to some mundane reality outside it, and not as a thing in itself. As soon as we switch to the latter view – we accept the existing framing of the picture as not "deficient" by this spatial reduction.
Transition from "mundane" to "artistic" look, however, does not mean simple throwing away of one in favor of the other, because the impression from the picture usually originates in none of these fields ("oh, how realistic it is!", or "oh, how artistic it is!"), but rather in ascending from one to another. From here we rather start talking about what the author "has done" with the elements that constitute the picture.
The space, outlined by the girl's look, goes beyond the frame of the picture. But at the same time it is reduced by the frame. However, its "extended" character does not disappear, and still is an integral feature of the picture. But instead of leading us into the mundane world, beyond the frame, the space is transposed into vertical dimension within it (this is the space between the girl and the leaves of the tree above her), which makes us stay within the picture . This transposition is actually "freezing the time". The picture is not narrative any more (like "about the girl who looked at something"). The frame has cut off the narrative, and made us concentrate on the "paradigmatic" relations between the visible elements of the picture, speaking of them as having common properties, considering them as supplementing each other in a single integral image.
With no mundane spatial dimension on the picture, the girl's look becomes metaphysical. And it makes the object of her attention separated from her not that much in space, but rather more in time. Thus, a look in space becomes a look in time, -- from the time frozen by the frames of the picture into the times unspecified outside it.
[Summing up. To create an image, find out what is reduced by the photo frame and find a transposition of it within the frame.]

Charles Simic
Charles Simic’s poetry has been called “strikingly original,” “grimly realistic,” “metaphysical,” “ironically humorous,” “meditative,” and, most often, “surreal.” He began to write poetry while still in high school, and always in English, which he had learned to speak at fifteen, after leaving Belgrade and arriving in the States, by way of Paris. Just five years later, in 1959, he had published his first poems in an issue of the Chicago Review. His college education was hard won, at night, paid for by the various odd jobs he took during the day, first in Chicago and later in New York City, and interrupted by a two-year stint in the military. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Russian, in 1966, from New York University, almost as a matter of form, for the influences and inspirations for his poems were already well established - his childhood experiences; his passion for art, poetry, jazz, and film; and his keen eye for observation. Within a year after graduation, his first collection, What the Grass Says, was published.
Mr. Simic has kept up an astounding pace in the ensuing years. A very short list of his twenty books of poetry includes The World Doesn’t End: Prose Poems (1990), which won the Pulitzer Prize; Walking the Black Cat (1996), a National Book Award finalist; Jackstraws (1999), a New York Times Notable Book of the Year; and Selected Poems: 1963–2003 (2004), which won the 2005 International Griffin Poetry Prize. He has been equally productive as a translator, editor and essayist, and his body of work has been acknowledged by fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2007, the same year he won the Wallace Stevens Award, Mr. Simic was appointed the fifteenth Poet Laureate of the United States. And earlier this year he joined the company of Robert Frost, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Wallace Stevens, and Marianne Moore as a recipient of the prestigious Robert Frost Medal, presented by the Poetry Society of America to honor “distinguished lifetime achievement in poetry.”
In addition to his writing, Mr. Simic remains active as a teacher. Since 1973, he has taught English and creative writing at the University of New Hampshire, where he is today Emeritus Professor; and as a Distinguished Poet-in-Residence, he teaches every fall semester at New York University.

Aine is revered among Irish herbalists and healers and is said to be responsible for the body's life force. A woman of the Leanan Sidhe (Sweetheart of the Sidhe). she is thought to be the daughter of Manannan.
Aine is in several tales strongly associated with the Yew tree which shows her as a Goddess of Life and Death. In all her aspects it is clearly shown that Aine was no deity to offend, for in spite of all her beneficent attributes, if crossed she could have coined the phrase "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned".

To discover that metaphysical Tree which hid
From my worldling look its brilliant vein
Far deeper in gross wood
Than axe could cut.
But before I might blind sense
To see with the spotless soul,
Each particular quirk so ravished me
Every pock and stain bulked more beautiful
Than flesh of any body
Flawed by love's prints.
— Sylvia Plath “On The Plethora Of Dryads”
I figured I’d upload another philosophical piece again. I’ve been delving into Aristotle’s “Metaphysics” this summer and an he mentioned something that was extremely interesting. Now I drew a conclusion that I can’t say he hasn’t because I’m not even remotely into the book and I’m not sure if he concludes this later on at some point. He was commenting on Empedocles before him, who was a pre-Socratic philosopher, and his ideas on early philosophy and inquiries into the first principles and causes. Empedocles maintained that the first principles are perishable and said that the elements are imperishable. Aristotle states emphatically that the principles are definitely not the same and that they are different, but if they are different are they either imperishable or perishable? He says that if perishable principles exist, then the elements exist because things that perish, perish by resolving into the elements of which they consist and this also means that the elements are perishable. This also leads him to the conclusion that there must be principles prior to the principles (Book III, Chapter IV, Lines 25-30). Those who believe there are perishable principles alone are stuck in a dilemma, as he states further that it’s uncertain whether this process has a limit or proceeds to infinity. But the most interesting conclusion he came to was that how do perishable things exist if their principles are to be annulled? (Book III, Chapter IV, Lines 25-30). Think about that: if the elements are to perish, then why do they exist in the first place? So whether he infers at this point, later on or it’s a conclusion that I’m reaching myself, this means that the principles must be both perishable and imperishable. So to branch off from what he’s saying, if the elements are perishable and they resolve into each other, thus constantly changing, it would seem that their very existence is based on not being consistent and remaining formalized. As he says, how can perishable things exist if their principles are to be annulled? So if their very existence is to be disordered and perishable, then why do they exist? The only conclusion to draw is that there are imperishable principles as well sustaining these perishable principles. An example: when you’re reading this, and looking at your computer screen, if your computer screen is composed of principles and elements that were disordered at one point and will resolve into other elements and principles when it reaches its end, why is it presently existing as an essence, a form in front of you? It must, then, be currently sustained by imperishable principles as well. So what are these imperishable principles? Now I’m not sure if he reaches this conclusion through these means now or later on or if I’m making this conclusion now after being familiar with his thought and writings, but this imperishable principle is the soul.

Eric Ennis teaches AP History and Government at John C. Fremont High School. Eric also created a Philosophy course in partnership with Banneker Special Education Center with lessons covering such topics as ethics and metaphysics, to help personalize many of the ethical dilemmas facing students and families with special needs. Within the Fremont High School community, Eric serves in numerous leadership and mentorship roles: the History Department Chair, a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, and as a mentor teacher conducting school-wide professional developments. He is also a National Board Certified teacher and trainer, as well as an instructional coach and guiding teacher for multiple universities (including USC and Mount Saint Mary’s University). Eric is currently collaborating on a book with a colleague on developing interdisciplinary lesson plans designed for the Common Core Standards.
A colleague, Robert Vidana, had this to say: “Eric Ennis is a teacher that works very hard to ensure student success in a difficult school and difficult community where there are a lot of barriers to achievement. Eric has become a teacher that serves as a foundation for other teachers to learn from and to grow from. Additionally, he is also a foundation for the students. The students know that he is a difficult teacher, but that he cares about their success and will provide a lot of support to help them see their work through. There are many teachers that students would consider vital to their learning environment, Eric is one of the few that they know has the ability to have an impact beyond the learning environment.”
United Way of Greater Los Angeles is proud to honor Eric Ennis as a 2015 Inspirational Teacher. Tag your inspirational teacher and tell us why they inspire you. #TeachersWhoInspire

The day after Shannon's birthday we arrived in Dunedin during its annual Fringe Festival. In the crypt of the St Pauls Cathedral at Dunedin's Octogon – the center of town - we found this experimental installation. Seven small stalls (resonance chambers according to the artist, Karyn Taylor) were flooded with different light and sound frequencies, apparently meant to be aligned with the body's chakra system. Oh. My spontaneous critique was unusually loud and smelly. Or one of my chakras resonated with that yellow chamber - I'm really not sure which. And get a load of that cross-pattern tiled floor! Nuts.

A New Age celebrity, Barbara has been around since the 60s. She is extremely articlulate about metaphysical concepts so is well respected. I had not delved into her material before, but I will now.
She asked herself what story would inspire the human population as much as the story of Jesus did and came up with a profile for such a story.
She talked about the media being the nervous system of the global politic and the vehicle by which we will become one. The media will allow us to focus the world on a single event, giving us a moment of shared pain which would produce mass empathy, mass revelation and introspection and open our collective eyes, realize that we were not alone which would then create great receptivity to a simultaneous, synchronization of technology that works while at the same time synchronizing our social systems. Empathy is rising by the minute she says increasing our vibration quotient, creating receptivity for new information and possibly extraterrestrial help.
All this would take place in the Noesphere of the earth-the thinking layer of the earth. We were to evolve by Evo-mimicry which has stages. Crisis precedes innovation because crisis is the mother of invention of course. Problems are the evolutionary drivers that prompt nature to take jumps to a whole. As in individual cells becoming part of a whole.
