This is the painting I created outside at the Courtyard Theater in Plano, TX. I was invited to paint outside to draw attention to the PAA exhibit inside. This was on Saturday10th October, to coincide with the Plano International Festival.

So, chilly though it was, I got to listen to amazing music and watch performances from around the world as I painted!

denim is a useful metaphor for all things comfortable, reliable, familiar, unpretentious, friendly, lovable... "you feel like a pair of old jeans and that's a good thing."

Manipulation Technique: Using Light/Fresh as a Metaphor for Healthfulness

Freshness was also commonly used as kind of code-word for healthfulness.

As I crack their skulls,

To find the brainseeds inside,

The blueprint for their future,

The nourishment of the seeds to be,

And look at my lined hands,

The etchings of my grip on life.

Incredible. A 5 year old understands the metaphor; "Johnny Depp is Rango"

time - Allan Parsons

Time ...

Flowing like a river ...

Time ...

Beckoning me

Who knows when we shall meet again ?

If ever ...

But time keeps flowing like a river

To the sea ...

Montreal

Sunset and evening star,

And one clear call for me!

And may there be no moaning of the bar,

When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,

Too full for sound and foam,

When that which drew from out the boundless deep

Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,

And after that the dark!

And may there be no sadness of farewell,

When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place

The flood may bear me far,

I hope to see my Pilot face to face

When I have crost the bar.

Tennyson frequently used to row across the Solent from Lymington to Yarmouth - on his way back to Farringford. It is thought that this provided the inspiration for this famous poem about death. 'Crossing the Bar' is usually to be found at the end of collections of Tennyson's poetry. Quite rightly so.

The angle of my picture makes the trees seem as though they are gigantic and never-ending in their reach towards the sky. This represents the magnitude of e-learning as it encompasses many different ideas and areas for teaching and learning. The picture also represents the continual growth and change of e-learning.

I was originally going to call this "overpowered" but I like the idea of the little lamp aspiring to be the sun. Cheesy, I know, but that's what happens when I haven't had any caffeine yet.

Or, if that doesn't work for you, how about this:

These three friends were struggling down the street on a loud, blustery day.

The first one says, "Windy, isn't it?"

The second one replies, "Wednesday? I thought it was Thursday?"

The third one continues, "Thirsty? So am I! Lets go have some tea."

So there. Construct from this what meaning you will.

Taken for "Active Assignment Weekly - Metaphor"

Metaphors are widely used in every language. They are per definition quite visual. However I have seldomly seen metaphors transferred into a picture. So go ahead.

Restriction: Keeping photoshopping to a minimum (yes, I am restricting myself).

Dare: Bring in the meaning of the metaphor itself. For example: "It is raining cats and dogs" could be a picture of falling cats and dogs (don't hurt em though). But the dare would include that the picture shows these falling cats and dogs in heavy rain. Understand?

And yes I know that the dare is hard to comply to together with the restriction. But hey, we're not in kindergarten here.

The others are all altered in this series.

Today marks the passing of 35 months since Ryanne's death. Almost three years ago I would've scoffed at the prospect of making it through one of these days without the feeling of crushing sadness being an overwhelming theme of marking such a milestone. In spite of that, I've made it through the day, so far, without feeling consumed by grief. In fact, I've felt a closeness with my little girl which has evaded me for so long.

With all of the focus that's been placed on the recent toxic rhetoric, I would like to make a request of everyone that is involved with or interested in politics, the media included. Please stop talking about politics and ideologies as if you are fighting a war against your opponent. Sarah Palin has been the posterchild for this type of behavior but she is not the only one. People that believe strongly about their views need to remember that this is not about taking what you want by force. The ferocious and inflammatory speech employed in our current environment is repugnant and beneath us as a nation. If we truly have the best of our society leading us, they should be smart enough to express their opinions without using violent and vitriolic metaphors.

I'm not asking for a law to be passed or for anyone to be punished by what's transpired over the last few years. I am simply asking as nicely as I can for people to stop acting like jerks and begin speaking to one another in civil and respectful tones. Also, please don't defend your first amendment rights to me. I'm not trying to make you give them up. I'm just trying to get you to stop using that right to defend being a jerk.

The image above makes me think of Ryanne's soul leaving its physical fetters and flying away free from the pain and struggle of life. It is actually the middle picture in a series which is sequenced below. Thank you to all of my friends and acquaintances for your continued concern and support as MK and I work our way through this process. You are all greatly appreciated.
