Inspired by a photo in a 1973 issue of "Desert" Magazine (magazine now defunct).

Apparently in 1973 metal detecting was the sensation sweeping the nation.

Available at Jerome Artists Cooperative Gallery. www.jeromecoop.com

A beautifully turned-out dmu is bound for Alton past a classic harvest scene with the quintessentially English metal-detectors hard at work; July 2008.

Vers Kontum - Vietnam.

A metal detector is used to locate metal objects in a Saxon grave. The early Saxon cemetery at Collingbourne Ducis is the largest in Wiltshire. 78 inhumation graves and 4 cremation burials were excavated. To find out more about the site visit

Took this photo about 30 minutes before one of the security guards falsely told me I wasn't allowed to take photos inside of the public cruise terminal. Mind you, they make folks walk through a metal detector, before reuniting the passengers with hundreds of pounds of unscreened luggage on the boat. And visitors are prohibited from boarding the boat unless they ask permission 4 days - 2 weeks ahead of time (the answer changes depending on who you ask). This security theater is worse than useless, as I am now fairly sure that the people in charge of designing Crystal Cruises' security system have designed it with only the illusion of security, no doubt sacrificing actual security. Waste of money, waste of resources, waste of time.

FAIL

oho, looks like he may have found something! "There's treasure everywhere!" as Calvin and Hobbes put it!

My oldest grand-daughter is learning to use a metal detector to find the buried coin treasures in a demonstration at the Arizona Minerals and Mining Museum, Phoenix. You can see she is working hard here. Her prize was a coin from Urugay. After she heard the beeping, she gave the unit to the volunteer and dug through with her hands to find it.

65 musket balls recovered from a single metal detector hit/shovel test! The speculation is that it might represent a lost ammo pouch. Not sure how previous surveys missed this!

Looks like the guy on the right is...?

I wonder how some of these guys make out walking around with these metal detectors scanning the beaches and various parks? Anyone?

In July 2013 I took part in the @Twitter background design contest by the award winning television series "Meteorite Men"

with Geoff Notkin and Steve Arnold.

#FF @MeteoriteMen

Here is the timeline of my brainstorming, design ideas & painting.

* MeteoriteMen LOGO in WIDMANSTÄTTEN STRUCTURE

* the PROFILES of Geoff & Steve holding their METALDETECTORS

(one in GUITAR style because MeteoriteMen ROCK)

* standing on a MAGNET

* surfing on a METEOROID

* from SPACE down to EARTH

* crossing the MOON ...

* even including some "stars" named LEO and DRAGON (AKA #PinkLittleDragon)

as both of them are big fans of this show :-)

Now let's wait and see what time will bring…
