Sext Message at The World Famous Milestone, May 24, 2014.

Arrived at my spot around 10:30AM, left at 6:10PM.

A little over 80F. and a light breeze. Perfect weather for hanging out for a few hours. There were a couple cars there, but I didn't see any people besides one guy who kept getting in/out of his Jeep. Okay, whatever.

10 minutes after getting there I heard the first train coming around the bend, and what a train it was, couple engines, and 78 autoracks in a row! What a way to start of my day.

15-20 minutes after I got to the spot, I messaged my friend Keith @railfanscajonpass that I was out there, he said he was on his way, he got there an hour or so later. By that time I'd already flicked 7-8 trains. One of the busiest days I've had in a long time. They just kept coming up and down the hill. I had planned to hike up the hill to look for a couple other spots to shoot from, but the trains just kept coming.

There's also some great under the bridges graff out at this spot, and I just didn't have time to hike over to it and flick it. There's also a spot close by that the RR stores ties, track, and equipment, I wanted to get some shots of that, again, no time.

Anyway, RRfans,(Keith) & Buddy hung out for another 5-6 hours until the sun dipped behind the mountains at about 6:00pm, and it was starting to get dark. Spent the day waiting, and listening for the engines chugging up the hill, or the horns blaring in the distance so we could finally jump up and do what we were both there to do. Him to film the trains and give his commentary, and me to get my flicks. He's a good dude to hang out with, good conversation, talk about life, problems, trains, etc.. Time just goes by so quick until the next train and we both get to work.

Saw lots of trucks, motorcycles, and loads of Jeeps drive through to go out exploring the local trails only to leave within' 20 minutes or so. There's miles and miles of trails out there, but it seems people get bored fast...

Had a great time, saw pieces from some of my favorite writers, and some writers I talk to occasionally.

It was a great day, and day I really needed personally, I've had a rough last few weeks, and I haven't been trackside in over a month. It was great to get out to the familiar sounds and smells of being out there next to the trains.

Backgrounds at this location are kind of boring, but the amount of freights and great pieces that come through here is crazy.

I was so curious to see what kind of seeds were in the Message Beans (bought back in December), that I dug them out. They were huge beans (about an inch and a half long) that I didn't recognize. Instead of planting them in the little containers they came in I potted them up in drinking cups with potting soil.

Anyone know what type of beans these are?

Near the old Dominion Foundry there are a bunch of warehouses slated for demolition. Part of the new West Don Lands development site. Im a bit sad to see this old warehouse come down but a quick peek inside revealed nothing that exciting. One of the strange things about this place is a door that was once the entrance to a business. The doors message is Inverted. It says..

"Dont Let The Bastards Wear You Down"

Update: 2012 - This building is now demolished

It doesn't know where it is.

Found on my bed when I woke up the day after my birthday party

True love will find its way if it is meant to be between two souls!

While it's true that online dating is not for everybody, let me foremostly extend my gratitude and say hurray! to Myladyboydate.com for laying down an avenue for two sincere souls to find their ways to find each other, irrespective of geographical location, time differences, race and social stratum one belongs to.

Admittedly, i had contacted, chatted and talked to several other guys in here with the very limited time and opportunity i have to get online, none of those has truly satiated the qualifications of a partner i have been looking for. It's not that im looking for a perfect guy, it's just that i was seriously looking for a perfect match to complement my strengths and to augment my weaknesses, and to eventually share the "ups" and "downs" of life. Yes, i am that serious. I did encounter lots of guys who were apt to play lusty games with me, but none succeeded. It may sound cliche for some, but it's a reality, it is a fact. I am not here to say they are bad guys, it is their thing, it is their comfort zone, it is their niche. Respect shall prevail. Furthermore, there are those guys who seem to be true and sincere about their desire to establish a meaningful relationship. That has been the case for several months being on MLD until meet John.

We starting to talk and exchange Skype and be friends for a week's and we starting to deal to close our account here. after getting to know each other by August 28, 2016 we be officially couple ???? after talking and building happy relationship For a month's. He decide to visit me and come here.

By Last August 16,2016 Yes he visit ???? and that's the first time we meet each other. It was so happy feeling that you can't explain hehe Then by August 28, 2016 which is our anniversary day too. He propose to me at the MAX Restaurant and asking to marry him. And ofocurse I say YES ???? Finally we are engaged ???? Then he's back to US to start our fiancee visa, but hopefully by next year 2017 he come here to get me. Much earlier much better ???? and we gonna close the distance very soon. I cant wait for that time. He made a promise to me and my family to get back pretty soon for a more meaningful event of our lives. I believe and trust him so.

To those ladies who find difficulty in being matched, don't give up. There's always something in store for everyone. Love comes in the most unprecedented time. It takes you by surprise. And when it arrives, take extra care of it, nurture it, treat with much trust and respect so it could surpass obstacles and the test of times. I am not sounding to have a perfect relationship with John. But I am here for good. I chose to love this man for the remaining days of my life. I have decided to walk with him, laugh and cry with him today, tomorrow and beyond infinity.

If your in Long distance relationship John and I make sure you we have time to talk. We have able to share our favorite moments. I know it's top but it's OK long distance relationship is not meant to be easy, it's hard for a reason, that's why having sentimental things like T-shirt, bears and cards can make u feel closer to your love. I can stressed how important it is to communicate right after when wake up and before you go to bed you always want to be the have first and last message for your love. And the most important tip Always have a date to meet if your ready to commit, "make a date" I been if using online only.

I cant think a better feeling better than knowing to see the person you love. those butterflies on your heart that ancientness! save it. And when u see that smile cherish each moment. And when you together be your self don't put your best put forward show all your flaws show your bad habit get on the fight once in a while there's no such thing as perfect relationship only a strong one and the only way to grow stronger is to over come challenges like I said cherish each moment. Be your self and love really. don't hold back.

Some one was told me the good thing comes to those who wait but I believe that dream are really waiting for you and my dream is waiting Me in America and be together with the man I love.

Love is not always about being in some one, love is about discovery you will discover a new part about your self that you never knew. Love will change you but it's up to this if you let your self to change for better or for worst. I know for me I'm always ready for a new adventures and I'm not holding back!

Love know boundaries so keep your heart open and stay strong.

If you are seriously looking for a meaningful relationship, just show your real self, reveal your circumstances, be always honest. Do not pretend to be a perfect partner, as there would be none.

To end this we both say, THANK YOU MLD MS MAKi AND SIR CYRIL, BEST WISHES TO THOSE WHO HAVE FOUND THEIRS AND GOOD LUCK TO THOSE STILL ON SEARCH.

Hugs & kisses

Kheycee and John

The Postcard

An S.B. Series greetings postcard published by Solomon Bros. Ltd. of Graphic House, New North Road, London.

The card was posted on Wednesday the 21st. June 1916 to:

Mrs. W. H. Clarke,

3 Newby St.,

Wandsworth Road,

Clapham,

London SW.

The message on the back of the card was as follows:

"Dear Horrie,

Just to wish you many happy

returns and good luck.

So sorry I have not written

before I am rather busy now.

Have you heard from Will?

I owe him a letter I think.

When does he come home?

Elsie is coming to see you

tomorrow evening.

Love from all, Kate".

The Battle of Carrizal

So what else happened on the day that Kate posted the card to Horrie?

Well, on the 21st. June 1916, close to 100 United States Cavalry and militia loyal to Venustiano Carranza clashed at the town of Carrizal, Chihuahua, Mexico.

The battle resulted in 14 Americans killed, 39 wounded and 24 captured, with 27 Mexicans being killed and 11 wounded.

Joseph Bamford

The day also marked the birth in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire of Joseph Cyril Bamford CBE, British business executive and founder of the multinational JCB manufacturing company, manufacturing heavy plant.

Biography of Joseph Bamford

Joseph Bamford was born into a recusant Catholic family which owned Bamfords Ltd., an agricultural engineering business.

Joseph's great grandfather Henry Bamford was born in Yoxall, and had built up his own ironmongery business, which by 1881 employed 50 men, 10 boys and 3 women.

Bamfords International Farm Machinery became one of the country's major agricultural equipment suppliers, famous for its balers, rakes, hay turners, hay wufflers, mangold cutters, and standing engines, which were exported all over the world. The company eventually ceased trading in 1986.

After attending Stonyhurst College, Joseph joined the Alfred Herbert company in Coventry, at the time the UK's largest machine-tool manufacturer, and rose to represent the firm in Ghana.

He returned home in 1938 to join the family firm, but in 1941 was called up by the RAF to serve in World War II. Working in supply and logistics, he returned to the African Gold Coast, to run a staging post for USAF planes being ferried to the Middle East.

JCB

On returning home in 1944, Bamford initially worked for English Electric developing electric welding equipment in Stafford. A short return stint with the family firm proved too stifling, and his Uncle Henry released him, saying he thought:

"Joe has little future ahead of him."

After selling Brylcreem for a short while, in October 1945 Bamford rented a 10 feet (3 m) by 15 feet lock-up garage for 30 shillings (£1.50) a week, and made a farm trailer from scrap steel and war surplus Jeep axles, using a prototype electric welder bought for £2-10s (= £2.50).

He opened for business on the day his first son, Anthony, was born, and sold the trailer for £45 and a cart, which he also repaired and sold for another £45.

Having no interest in taking over rival businesses, Joseph's philosophy was:

"Focus on what you do best, be innovative,

and re-invest in product development and

the latest manufacturing technologies."

His strategy resulted in a series of market-leading innovations:

-- 1948 – Introduced the first hydraulic tipping trailer in Europe.

-- 1950 – Moved to an old cheese factory in Rocester, Uttoxeter, where the workforce totalled six.

-- 1951 – Began painting his machinery yellow.

-- 1953 – Brought out his breakthrough product, the backhoe loader.

-- 1957 – Brought out the "Hydra-Digga", incorporating the excavator and the major loader as a single all-purpose tool which was useful for both the agricultural as well as construction industry, which JCB grew with.

-- 1958 -- Bought ten motor-scooters with the number plates JCB1 to JCB10, to get their number plates to transfer to his firm's vehicles.

-- 1991 – Brought out the JCB Fastrac high speed agricultural tractor.

With exports to the United States beginning, profits increased from 1960 onwards. JCB won seven Queen's Awards for Exports as its sales spread to more than 130 countries around the world, while Bamford himself was appointed a CBE for Services to Export in 1969.

In 1993, he became the first British citizen to be honoured in the Association of Equipment Manufacturers Hall of Fame, and remained the only British inductee until his son Anthony was inducted in 2008.

Marketing

What made Bamford different from many engineers was that he was also a marketeer. Bamford personally demanded to know daily from his staff how many "JCB Yellow" vehicles were off the road awaiting spares. Bamford created an image that JCBs were there to work, and if an owner-operator's machine was down, then Bamford wanted to know about it—which gained him 95% of the owner-operator market in the UK.

Bamford placed a 12 V socket into the cab of his vehicles, and delivered the first 100 personally, arriving in his Rolls Royce with number plate JCB1.

One of the first Lear jets in Europe was purchased to fly in non-UK customers (the fleet has since got larger), who were met by another European first, a stretched Cadillac with the same number of seats as the jet. Bamford also conceived the "Dancing Diggers," whose 1999 display in Las Vegas stopped the gamblers.

Personal Style

A non-smoking teetotaller, who was so careful with his money that he claimed his wife still made their own curtains, Bamford worked from 09:00 until 23:00 every day. He saw his role in life to be like the Nonconformist Cadbury and Lever families.

He built Rocester along the lines of Bournville and Port Sunlight into an effective marketing home for the company, and an efficient production centre and a virtual "home" for his employees.

He saw no need to recognise trade unions. The Rocester works were surrounded by 10,000 acres (40 km2) of landscaped grounds in which his company's employees could shoot, fish, swim, and sail.

Bamford paid more than fair wages, which rose regularly, and annual bonuses based on reports of individual worth. In 1967 Bamford stood on a farm cart and handed out personal cheques totalling £250,000.

This extraordinary focus in return gave unprecedented levels of workforce flexibility, with the average JCB employee through the strike-dominated 1970's and early 1980's, being seven times more productive than the average British manufacturing worker.

Retirement

In 1975, Bamford left his wife Marjorie (née Griffin – married 1941), handed over the business to their two sons, and set up home with his secretary, Jayne Ellis, in Switzerland as tax exiles.

He continued to design both boats and diesel engines. Bamford was awarded the honorary degree of a Doctor of Technology from both Loughborough University in 1989 and Keele University in 2000.

The Death and Legacy of Joseph Bamford

Bamford died at the age of 84 in a London clinic on the 1st. March 2001.

At his death, JCB was the largest privately-owned engineering company in Great Britain, employing 4,500 people and manufacturing 30,000 machines a year in 12 factories on three continents.

JCB had revenues of £850m in 1999, earned from 140 countries.

Joseph's portraits by Lucinda Douglas-Menzies and Leslie Smithers (whilst he was still the head of his JCB empire) are in the National Portrait Gallery.

William B. Ruger

Also born on that day was William B. Ruger, an American inventor who developed the Ruger Standard firearm.

William, who was born in New York City, was co-founder of Sturm, Ruger & Co. William died in 2002.

Miss G. Stiles,

36, Brookwood Road,

Southfields,

London S.W.

The pencilled message on the back of the card was as follows:

"Churchfield Boarding

Dear Grace,

We are having a ripping

time.

Our faces are quite sore

being sunburnt.

Fancy George being in

England.

I am glad I have an extra

The Photochrom Co. Ltd.

The Photochrom Co. Ltd. of London and Royal Tunbridge Wells originally produced Christmas cards before becoming a major publisher and printer of tourist albums, guide books, and postcards.

These mainly captured worldwide views as real photos, or were printed in black & white, monochrome, and color.

They also published many advertising, comic, silhouette, novelty, panoramic, and notable artist-signed cards in named series as well. The huge number of titles that Photochrom produced may well exceed 40,000.

In 1896 they took over Fussli’s London office established three years earlier, and began publishing similar photo-chromolithographic postcards after securing the exclusive English licence for the Swiss photochrom process.

This technique was used to produce a great number of view-cards of both England and Europe. While they captured the same fine details as the Swiss prints, their colours were much softer and reduced.

Apart from their better known photochroms, they produced their Celesque series of view-cards printed in tricolor.

One of the largest unnamed series that Photochrom produced was of view-cards printed in brown rotogravure. Many of these cards were simply hand coloured with a dominant red and blue, which gives these cards a distinct appearance. They are similar to cards produced in their Photogravure and Velvet Finish Series.

Photochrom postcard series include:

-- Night Series - Line block halftone over a blue tint depicting London.

-- Carbofoto Series - Black & white real photo cards.

-- Sepiatone Series - Sepia real photo cards.

-- Grano Series - View-cards printed in black & white.

-- Exclusive Photo-Color Series - View-cards printed in colour.

-- Duotype Process Series - View-cards printed in two tones.

Cliftonville

Cliftonville is a coastal area of the town of Margate, situated to the east of the main town. It contains the area known as Palm Bay.

The original Palm Bay estate was built in the 1930's as a number of large, wide avenues with detached and semi-detached houses with driveways, garages and gardens. This land was sold by Mr Sidney Simon Van Den Bergh to the Palm Bay Estate Co. on the 23rd. June 1924. Such avenues include Gloucester Avenue and Leicester Avenue.

East Cliftonville

The Palm Bay estate covers the eastern part of Cliftonville, and was fields before the first avenue was built. It extends east beyond Northumberland Avenue and has been developed in phases. The later phase extending eastwards of Princess Margaret Avenue is a modern-style housing estate with small houses largely identical in appearance and of less substantial build quality than the original 1930's estate.

The eastward expansion of Cliftonville has included much of the former parish of Northdown, including Northdown Park and House.

West Cliftonville

West Cliftonville was originally developed as the up-market alternative to bustling Margate, and had many small private hotels and guest houses with outstanding Victorian architecture which catered for the many visitors to what was in the first half of the 20th. century a thriving holiday resort.

Many of the large hotels have been converted into one bed flats; this has brought about positive action from Thanet District Council which introduced selective licensing, ensuring that quality home improvements are maintained by landlords (2006) and restricting planning permission for one bedroom flats (2007).

Cliftonville now has many of its streets protected by conservation area orders. The seafront area once included many large hotels, including at one time a large Butlins complex. Some fantastic hotels remain, e.g. Smiths Court Hotel overlooking the sea, and The Walpole Bay Hotel.

Tourism and visitor numbers have increased in Cliftonville (2018) with the addition of newly opened bed and breakfasts changing the Cliftonville landscape. Northdown Road and Cliff Terrace have also had a resurgence, with many trendy and hip businesses opening up.

The Oval Bandstand and lawns run by community group GRASS Cliftonville bring an opportunity to bring community engagement to Cliftonville, and they host a monthly award-winning farmers' market on the last Sunday of every month.

During the summer there are a number of activities and events, including musical shows. The Tom Thumb Theatre brings a host of music events and theatre to Cliftonville.

Writing and Poetry

During the first half of the 20th. century, Cliftonville was considered the fashionable hotel quarter of Margate. It was during the autumn of 1921 that T. S. Eliot spent a period of convalescence at the Albermarle Hotel. His widow has confirmed that he found inspiration for, and wrote significant sections of 'The Waste Land' in the Grade II listed Nayland Rock promenade shelter.

The spirit of early 20th. century Cliftonville was caught by John Betjeman in his poem "Margate Pier".

Trevor Howard

The actor Trevor Howard was born in Cliftonville on the 29th. September 1913.

Sugar Consumption in the U.S.

So what else happened on the day that Rose posted the card?

Well, on the 19th. September 1919, the Chicago Tribune reported that the consumption of sugar in the United States for the first 7 months of 1919 was 362,000 tons more than during the corresponding period in the previous year.

This was according to statistics compiled by the United States Sugar Equalization Board.

This represents an increased per capita consumption of one pound per month. So now you know.
