Emo is like any style, fashion or culture. The term emo is loosely associated with emotionally charged punk rock, however it originally meant emotionally hardcore - modern 'emo' music is more of a branch off from what it started out as.

A lot of times, Emo is associated with being bitter, depressed, insecure and resentful.

A bizarre wave of mob emo-bashings is sweeping across Mexico. The movement is being generated on message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude.

The spark came first in Queretaro on March 7. An estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of. They found some. The next weekend it spread to Mexico City, where emos faced off against punks and rockabillies at the Glorieta de Insurgents, the epicenter of emo social space in the capital. There's also been reports of anti-emo violence in Durango, Colima, and elsewhere.

The question on everyone's lips right now seems to be, "What the hell is going on?" Been reporting this story since it broke, and we're looking further into it. Updates in the near future.

"When the status of a Native American is demoted to that of a caricature, we are objectified and diminished as a people. We become entertainment, not fellow citizens. How are you supposed to take me seriously if all you see is the stereotypical image of the Hollywood or sports mascot Indian?"

Inside Faisal Mosque...

Every single car, walker, and passerby saw this ‪#‎lightbrigade‬ message heading in and out of tonight's Governors Conference, which is in Milwaukee all weekend, including several governors who recently inked legislation attacking women.

This was a message in a bottle that my Dad found on East Preston beach, it was from a girl with special needs at a school in Guernsey.

I wrote back, but haven't had a reply.

Clarification: If you want to see my private photos:

1) Add me as a contact first (friend preferred since I will have to add you as a friend)

2) Send me a short message if we haven't spoken before just so I know who you are.

Important note: Please refrain from using my work without permission. I'll be nice about it if you ask! Thank you all in advance.

The Postcard

A carte postale published by Ern. Thill of Brussels.

The card was posted in Knokke on Friday the 9th. September 1938 to:

V. Taylor Esq.,

Central Parade,

Herne Bay,

Kent,

England.

The message on the back of the card was as follows:

"Thanks for your letter.

My remarks re drinks were

more a jest than being

serious.

As you will note we have

been to Bruges and hope

to go again.

We went to the Church of

Holy Blood, the Town Hall,

the Cathedral, the Church

of Notre Dame with the

Michaelangelo statue and

the picture of the Crucifixion

by Van Dyck.

Have also been to Arras,

Ypres, Zeebrugge and the

local museums and the

William II batteries.

Yours, Edgar".

Sounds like Edgar has put his foot in it.

The Belfry

The belfry, which is on the south side of the Grote Markt (Big Market Square), was built in the 13th. Century.

It houses a carillon of 47 bells which are rung by a full-time carilloneur who gives free concerts on a regular basis. (When you think about it, they'd have to be free, wouldn't they?)

The Church of Our Lady

On the right can be seen the medieval spire of the Church of Our Lady. At 122 metres, to this day it is still one of the world's tallest brick-built buildings.

The transept contains a statue of the Madonna and Child; it is believed to be the only one of Michelangelo's statues to have left Italy during his lifetime. To see this statue, please search for the tag 58END43

Breydel and Coninck

The statue on the tall plinth commemorates Jan Breydel, a butcher born in Bruges, and Pieter de Coninck, a weaver.

In May 1302 they led the Bruges Matins (Brugse Metten), a violent uprising against Philip the Fair. (He couldn't have been that fair, or the plinth would have had a statue of him on it, rather than them!)

Sir Tim Wallis

So what else happened on the day that Edgar posted the card?

Well, the 9th. September 1938 marked the birth of Sir Timothy William Wallis. He is a New Zealand businessman and aviation entrepreneur. He pioneered live deer capture from helicopters, which led to a significant industry in New Zealand.

He was a leader and international representative of the deer farming industry. Wallis also founded the Alpine Fighter Collection and the Warbirds over Wanaka air show.

Wallis's Early Life

Timothy was born in Greymouth, on the West Coast. He attended Christ's College, Christchurch from 1952 to 1956 as a boarder. After completing a period of compulsory military training in 1957, he spent 2 terms as a medical student at the University of Canterbury before leaving to take a job with the Kopara Sawmilling Company.

Deer Recovery and Farming

Pioneer of the live deer recovery industry in New Zealand's South Island, Wallis built an aviation empire around helicopter operations, pulling valuable animals out of the rugged high country.

Moving into deer farming during the 1970's, he was among the first to see the potential of the industry in New Zealand, and his farm, Criffel, became a centre of excellence for high quality genetics, and served as a model for many other farmers.

In 1974 he pioneered the first exports of live deer to Taiwan, followed in 1975 by the first live deer exports to Korea.

The world's first deer auction was held on his farm in 1977. His company forged trade relationships in Russia, Korea and Hong Kong that saw exports of velvet, antler and pizzle to Asia.

Involvement in Aviation

In 1965 he bought his first helicopter, which he used for commercial work.

A long-time enthusiast, Wallis purchased and restored many World-war II era fighter aircraft, establishing the Alpine Fighter Collection and the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum.

The 1968 Crash

On the 7th. July 1968 while flying a Hiller UH 12E, the helicopter hit overhead power lines on Queenstourn Hill station. As a result of the crash Wallis broke his back which required steel plates to be inserted in his spine. He remained partly paralysed in his left leg, which required him to use a caliper extending from thigh to shoe. Wallis managed to continue his flying career despite the injury.

Mustang Purchase

In 1984 he purchased a North American P-51 Mustang. Painted in RNZAF colours, it attracted much media attention as the first flying Second World War fighter seen in New Zealand for some years, and played a major part in the 1980's and 1990's expansion of the Warbird movement in New Zealand. The purchase of this aircraft caused him to establish the Alpine Fighter Collection.

Spitfire Purchase

In October 1988 Tim bought a Supermarine Spitfire. After giving a display at an airshow at Ardmore Airport in January 1989 he headed south to Masterton. While on the way he ran out of fuel after misjudging the Spitfire's fuel consumption. He managed to divert the aircraft to Waipukurau airport but during the final approach the engine failed and he crashed, damaging the undercarriage and propeller. It took nearly a year to restore the aircraft to airworthiness.

In November 1992 he again crashed the Spitfire when he was caught by a wind gust when attempting to land at the RNZAF Base Woodbourne. As a result, the left undercarriage and left wing were badly damaged.

New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum

Timothy was the driving force behind the establishment of the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum which was built alongside the Alpine Deer Group offices at Wanaka Airport. It was opened in 1993 by retired Group Captain Colin Gray.

The 1996 Crash

On the 2nd. January 1996, Timothy intended to practise formation flying with in the Spitfire Mk XIV which was owned by the Alpine Fighter Collection. At the time he only had a total of 5½ hours flying time on this type of aircraft, and had only flown it 7 times.

His departure was delayed by a problem with the aircraft's radio. Distracted by the number of people waiting to watch him take off, he overlooked the rudder setting. The aircraft slewed to the right on takeoff, and went off the runway, with its tailwheel catching on the top two wires of the boundary fence.

This stalled the aircraft, and it crashed into the ground. The right wing was snapped off, and the windscreen and cockpit area were badly damaged as the aircraft travelled upside down for about 40 metres before coming to rest. Wallis was badly hurt, and was rushed by air Dunedin Public Hospital.

His injuries left him medically unfit to fly.

Family

In 2018 Sir Tim and Lady Pru Wallis lost two of their four sons in helicopter crashes: Matthew (Matt) Wallis (39) in July, and Nick (38) in October.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

The B&O Railroad Museum is a museum exhibiting historic railroad equipment in Baltimore, Maryland, originally named the Baltimore & Ohio Transportation Museum when it opened on July 4, 1953. It has been called one of the most significant collections of railroad treasures in the world and has the largest collection of 19th-century locomotives in the U.S.

The museum is located in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's old Mount Clare Station and adjacent roundhouse, part of the B&O's sprawling Mount Clare Shops site begun in 1829, the oldest railroad manufacturing complex in the United States.

Mount Clare is considered to be a birthplace of American railroading, as the site of the first regular railroad passenger service in the U.S., beginning on May 22, 1830. It was also to this site that the first telegraph message, "What hath God wrought [disambiguation needed]?" was sent on May 24, 1844, from Washington, D.C., using Samuel F. B. Morse's invention.

The museum houses collections of 19th- and 20th-century artifacts related to America's railroads. The collection includes 250 pieces of railroad rolling stock, 15,000 artifacts, 5,000 cubic feet (140 m3) of archival material, four significant 19th-century buildings, including the historic roundhouse, and a mile of track, considered the most historic mile of railroad track in the United States. Train rides are offered on the mile of track on Wednesday through Sunday from April through December and weekends in January. In 2002, the museum had 160,000 visitors annually.

The museum also features an outdoor G-scale layout, an indoor HO scale model, and a wooden model train that children will enjoy climbing on. From Thanksgiving through the New Year, local model railroad groups set up large layouts on the roundhouse floor and in select locations on the grounds of the museum. A museum store offers toys, books, DVDs and other railroad-related items.

The museum and station were designated as a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1961.

In 2008, the Museum won three awards in Nickelodeon's Parents' Picks Awards in the categories of: Best Museum for Little Kids, Best Indoor Playspace for Little Kids, and Best Indoor Playspace for Big Kids. Television and film actor Michael Gross is the museum's "celebrity spokesman"

Ubud is a town on the Indonesian island of Bali in Ubud District, located amongst rice paddies and steep ravines in the central foothills of the Gianyar regency. One of Bali's major arts and culture centres, it has developed a large tourism industry.

Ubud has a population of about 30,000 people. Recently, it has become difficult to distinguish the town itself from the villages that surround it. The area surrounding the town is made up of small farms, rice paddies, and dense forest.

HISTORY

Eighth-century legend tells of a Javanese priest, Rsi Markendya, who meditated at the confluence of two rivers (an auspicious site for Hindus) at the Ubud locality of Campuan. Here he founded the Gunung Lebah Temple on the valley floor, the site of which remains a pilgrim destination.

The town was originally important as a source of medicinal herbs and plants; Ubud gets its name from the Balinese word ubad (medicine).

In the late nineteenth century, Ubud became the seat of feudal lords who owed their allegiance to the king of Gianyar, at one time the most powerful of Bali's southern states. The lords were members of the Balinese Kshatriya caste of Sukawati, and were significant supporters of the village's increasingly renowned arts scene.

Tourism on the island developed after the arrival of Walter Spies, an ethnic German born in Russia who taught painting and music, and dabbled in dance. Spies and foreign painters Willem Hofker and Rudolf Bonnet entertained celebrities including Charlie Chaplin, Noël Coward, Barbara Hutton, H.G. Wells and Vicki Baum. They brought in some of the greatest artists from all over Bali to teach and train the Balinese in arts, helping Ubud become the cultural centre of Bali.

A new burst of creative energy came in the 1960s after the arrival of Dutch painter Arie Smit (b. 1916) and the development of the Young Artists Movement.

The Bali tourist boom since the late 1960s has seen much development in the town; however, it remains a centre of artistic pursuit.

STREETS

The main street is Jalan Raya Ubud (Jalan Raya means main road), which runs east–west through the center of town. Two long roads, Jalan Monkey Forest and Jalan Hanoman, extend south from Jalan Raya Ubud.

BUILDINGS

Puri Saren Agung is a large palace located at the intersection of Monkey Forest and Raya Ubud roads. The residence of Tjokorda Gede Agung Sukawati (1910–1978), the last ruling monarch of Ubud, it is still owned by the royal family. Dance performances and ceremonies are held in its courtyard. The palace was also one of Ubud's first hotels, opening its doors back in the 1930s.

A number of Hindu temples exist, such as Pura Desa Ubud, which is the main temple, Pura Taman Saraswati, and Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, the temple of death. The Gunung Kawi temple is the site of the royal tombs. Goa Gajah, also known as the Elephant Cave, is located in a steep valley just outside Ubud near the town of Bedulu.

The Moon of Pejeng, in nearby Pejeng, is the largest single-cast bronze kettle drum in the world, dating from circa 300BC. It is a popular destination for tourists interested in local culture.

ECONOMY

The economy of Ubud is highly reliant on tourism which focuses on culture, yoga and nature. In contrast to the main tourist area in southern Bali, the Ubud area has forests, rivers, cooler temperatures and less congestion although traffic has increased dramatically in the 21st century. A number of smaller "boutique"-style hotels such as the historic Tjampuhan Hotel are located in and around Ubud, which commonly offer spa treatments or treks up nearby mountains.

CULTURE

The town and area has a number of art museums, such as the Blanco Renaissance Museum, the Puri Lukisan Museum, Neka Art Museum, and the Agung Rai Museum of Art. Close-by is the Museum Rudana in Peliatan,

The Tek Tok is a traditional Balinese dance that is accompanied by musical sound of mouth 'Tek Tok' altogether with various combinations of body movement and other sounds. Tek Tok dance tale taken from the Mahabharata, where Draupadi at stake in a gambling.

The war between righteousness and villainy become part of the philosophy of life which has never dimmed. The story "Draupadi Parwa" Tek Tok Dance gives a moral message which when a woman who embodies the values of patience, sacrifice, compassion, devotion, and a holy sincerity is not respected, then disasters and calamities will befall a kingdom or state. This story also gives the message that truth, virtue, devotion and genuine compassion will always be protected by God. Tek Tok Dance performance held regularly in Bali Culture Center (BCC) Ubud, Bali four times a week.

NATURE

The Ubud Monkey Forest is a sacred nature reserve located near the southern end of Jalan Monkey Forest. It houses the temple of death, and approximately 340 crab-eating macaque (Macaca fascicularis) monkeys live there.

The Campuhan ridge walk is a hill from where one can see two rivers Tukad Yeh Wos Kiwa and Tukad Yeh Wos Tengen merge. There are one meter wide of paving block track about two kilometers to the top of the hill.
