Así se llama la calle. El otoño en esta zona de California presenta grandes contrastes ya que no todos los árboles se ven afectados por el cambio de coloración.

Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park, Utah Ok. It was in single digits this morning and I forgot my gloves. Thanks to a fellow photographer who had an extra pair I was able to click away all morning. I actually think the sun flair coming under the arch adds a nice touch.

Mesa Arch. Sunrise is an amazing time at this spot: light from the rising sun hits the canyon wall and then bounces back up, setting fire to the bottom of the arch.

Old shots from my last trips I re-edit. Here is a shot from a sunrise in Mesa Arch, a famous spot in Canyonlands NP. I was here more than 1 hour before sunrise to get my spot, but there was already a tons of tourists (maybe 20). When the sun rises, we were about 40-50 people shooting the same arch. Not very for photographers looking for solitude ^^

An ancient eye stares into the abyss with nothing to do but simply reminisce. - Mesa Arch, Canyonlands National Park, Utah.

“MIND, n. A mysterious form of matter secreted by the brain. Its chief activity consists in the endeavour to ascertain its own nature, the futility of the attempt being due to the fact that it has nothing but itself to know itself with.” ―Ambrose Bierce, The Unabridged Devil's Dictionary

Yesterday, I finally made it back to Mesa Verde. That's pretty much the last thing I really had to do before I leave Durango. I don't want to leave Durango. I love it here. I love this campsite. But, I have to move on. The first time I went to Mesa Verde was kind of to scope it out, and figure out what to see and when to see it when I went back. The main thing I HAD to see was Cliff Palace. It's the biggest and best of all the cliff dwellings. Since the lighting is absolutely miserable in these caves, I really needed a cloudy day. I had one yesterday. Very cloudy. Very stormy. You have to take a guided tour to see Cliff Palace. I really can't stand any kind of park where you have to take a guided tour. As a photographer, it totally SUCKS!!! Every time I try to take a shot, I have a group of 30 or so people standing in front of me. If I try to get ahead of the group, I get yelled at, if I try to lag behind, I get yelled at. So, anyway... I drive all the way to Mesa Verde yesterday morning, and every damn tour of Cliff Palace was filled... GREAT!!! There were still tours of Balcony House available, so I got a ticket for the 4:00 tour. So, after putzing around for hours, waiting for the 4:00 tour... The thunder starts. It's still Monsoon season. So, we hang around, and watch the lightning, and count the seconds before we hear the boom, and figure out how far away it is. Is it getting closer, or farther? It's getting closer. DAMN! The tour is cancelled. Well, that's just GREAT!!! I went back and asked the guide of the 4:30 tour if I could squeeze into that one? Nope, he said he already let about a dozen people from the 4:00 tour in, and it would be too crowded... GREAT!!!! So I went back at 5:00. The lightning was back. (It never did rain, by the way) It was getting closer. Once again, we stood there, watching the lightning, and counting the seconds... It's getting closer, it's getting farther, it's getting closer, it's getting farther, it's getting farther... By 5:15, the guide said..."OK, let's do it" I tried a new tactic this time. Rather than ask him if I could slip into the 5:00 tour with my 4:00 ticket, I just handed him the ticket and gambled on him not looking at the time printed on it. He didn't. So, I was in, climbing down ladders, and squeezing through narrow little tunnels. Apparently, of all the cliff dwellings, this one is the most difficult to get to. Several times I had to take off my backpack, squeeze through a tunnel, and then have the person behind me push it through so I could grab it.

So... Anyway... Here are three shots of Balcony House...

I was living as a nomad for a year or so, hitting a bunch of National Parks. Now that I've re-engaged with my camera, I've discovered a number of great images which I'm just now processing and publishing. There were so many fabulous sunsets, it's hard to pick.

I'm really enjoying going through these old images and finding some gems.

After driving hours in pitch black darkness, locating a nondescript trail head and hiking across an arid landscape in pitch blackness, mother nature didn't let us down as the sun rose behind Mesa Arch, Utah.

Raton,New Mexico. 4.5.2017.

Sunbeams appear over the La Sal Mountains, Buck Canyon, and the Colorado River just after sunrise. These images were taken from Mesa Arch after a short early morning hike in Canyonlands National Park, Utah.

One point to mention is the bright orange color on the underside of the arch. While it may look strange, it actually comes from light reflected off the rocks in the foreground. Makes for a pretty neat scene!
