Yesterday afternoon my wife and kids and I grabbed our gear and headed to the Toledo area to look for interesting and different (at least to us) things to photograph.
It was brutally cold, 27°F and windy, but we're a tough crew, and we boldly shot on. In reality, we did a lot of running back to the car laughing and complaining about how cold it was.
This rail yard is in Oregon Ohio, and I liked how so many tracks merged into one.

Merged with PT GUI. This is the first merging program that could handle a bizarre merge like this one (which I shot to try and fool it... failed). This is about 7 or 8 photos merged.

The Signature merges a luxury resort with the amenities of a timeshare (like a kitchen) while giving you access to everything at the neighboring MGM Grand -- including its casino, nightclubs, restaurants, entertainment and pools.
The suite life with a touch of home, quiet and exclusive, a hideaway from the crowds of weekend partiers
What we love
The Signature is a nongaming, nonsmoking resort. This means there'll be no noisy slot machines and no clouds of smoke hovering about. Yes, everything -- from the lobby to your suite -- smells nice and clean.
The balconies on select suites are awesome. If you're on a high floor, you could stay out on them for hours surveying all that goes on below. There are incredible views of either the Las Vegas Strip or the surrounding valley (and from some suites you can actually watch the planes take off and land at McCarran International Airport).
The Signature boasts a super in-suite dining menu...so super you may not want to go out to eat. Available from 6am - 2am, it features everything from breakfast, lunch and dinner items to appetizers, snacks and desserts as well as bar selections. You can even request a box of handmade chocolate truffles or an artisan cheese spread be delivered.
The property offers condo-style accommodations but the suites also come with many of the amenities you'd expect of an upscale hotel. For example, relax your weary body in a whirlpool tub after a long day (or night) on the town. Plus, some of the suites have cool TVs that rise from the desks.
Good to know
Regarding those fabulous balconies, you'll have to drag a chair out if you want to sit outside. There's no patio furniture on them.
Thanks to the guarded gate, it can feel strange arriving at The Signature at MGM Grand the first time. You'll be given a pass there and told which tower you're in. Each tower has its own valet service on the ground level (plan for a wait if you request your vehicle at busy times, like immediately following checkout). There is no self-parking area at The Signature, so if you want to self-park you'll have to make a long trek to the garage at MGM Grand.
Speaking of walking, expect to do a fair amount when you stay at The Signature. Consisting of three identical towers, it typically takes at least 10 minutes to walk from the farthest one to MGM Grand. The towers are all linked together and connected to the megaresort via moving walkways. Of course, MGM Grand is huge in itself, so once you get there you'll have to do more walking.
Oddly enough, even though the suites at The Signature come with either kitchenettes or full kitchens, you're not going to find any dishware, silverware or cooking utensils in them. You'll have to ask at the front desk on arrival or call the concierge to get those delivered. There is no charge for this, and you may request any number of plates, glasses, pots, pans and more that you desire.
This is a non-smoking hotel. Guests who light up in their room will be assessed a cleaning fee upon checkout. Smoke in designated areas, such as MGM Grand's casino next door.
Insider tips
As a guest of The Signature you can take advantage of all the amenities at MGM Grand -- like the Grand Pool complex. We recommend you do this because even though each tower at The Signature has its own heated outdoor pool, the one at MGM Grand is tricked out -- it boasts five pools, three whirlpools and a 1,000-foot-long lazy river.
If you're hungry and don't feel like going over to MGM Grand or the Strip, try Delights. This deli located in the second tower serves a lot more than just sandwiches. You can get a good skillet scramble for breakfast or one of several different pastas for dinner. And when you're looking to relax with a drink, check out The Lounge, a swanky bar located in the first tower.
Got a coffee craving? Now there's a coffee maker in your suite, but if you don't feel like brewing your own cup, head to the ground floor of the first tower where there's a Starbucks.
Using 56 images taken every 5 secs during this morning's sunrise, I'd layered and lightened it in Photoshop to produce this interesting motion of colors. By darkening and adding 100 more images to the layer, the result was also interesting and different: www.flickr.com/photos/79387036@N07/34813576955/in/photost...
Confined to a 888 square food loft in San Francisco during the stay-at-home orders, I was desperate for a good pop of color to photograph. Fortunately my mother-in-law came to the rescue with a vase of fresh picked roses from her garden east of the city.
I had never attempted to focus stacking on my Fuji X-T2 so after a few trials and errors, I came out with an image I was quite proud of. I typically edit in Lightroom but for the first time used Photoshop to process the 20 images. Finally none of this would be possible without the wonderful XF 80 Macro lens.
Test #2 of UE 100 film in Pyrocat. Need work on my agitations but seem close on the correct time but the lens did quite well on these.

Edited European Southern Observatory image of the galaxies NGC 5426 and NGC 5427, known collectively as Arp 271. Color/processing variant.
Original caption: This image shows a pair of interacting galaxies known as Arp 271. Individually, these galaxies are named NGC 5426 and NGC 5427; both are spirals, and both are roughly the same size. Some astronomers believe that these galaxies are in the process of merging to form a single entity. This interaction will create increasing numbers of new stars over the next few million years, some of which can be seen within the “bridge” of gas connecting the two galaxies. This kind of collision and interaction might also happen to our own galaxy, the Milky Way, which is likely to collide with the neighbouring Andromeda Galaxy in about five billion years time. These galaxies lie over 120 million light years away from us, and were discovered by the German-British astronomer William Herschel in 1785. Herschel was a prolific scientist, also discovering both infrared radiation and the planet Uranus. Link: Previous release of the same galaxy pair: www.eso.org/public/images/potw1035a/

Carrington Hotel: situated on the west side of Katoomba Street, the Carrington has played a significant role in the growth of Katoomba as a resort town. It was designed by John Kirkpatrick and built in 1882. Extensions were built by Edward Hogben and the Goyder Brothers in 1911-13.
It is an excellent and rare example of a high Victorian grand hotel. It was named after Lord Carrington, then governor of New South Wales. It has seen a long stream of significant guests, including British royalty, Prime Ministers, premiers and actors.
The Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti stayed at the Carrington in the 1920s when he was under the tutelage of the Theosophical Society.

Vuelta a Pisa tras cinco años.
Come back to Pisa after five years. Last time, Aritz was just two months old and Asier was absolutely disappointed as he wasn't allowed to climb the Leaning Tower, as he was too young. We were lucky that this year the Italian Dept. of the EOI Terrassa organized a trip to Pisa, so we cpuld celebrate Asier's 10th birthday there. Although we had the airtickets since Xmas, we succeeded to keep the secret until almost the boarding gate and the surprise for Asier was absolutely thrilling. Afterwards Pisa did the rest for an unforgettable family weekend...

After 5 years since the initiation of merger talks between Asiana Airlines and Korean Air, both carriers as of 12th December 2024 have finally completed their merger after a lengthy process of receiving process of receiving regulatory approval from various countries.
The merger between the 2 carriers began during the height of COVID-19, at a time when Asiana Airlines was seriously struggling financially; the acquisition would unsurprisingly face various regulatory scrutiny as the combined carrier would make it by far the largest within South Korea as well as making them especially dominant in certain markets, notably towards Europe and North America.
Whilst many markets had approved the merger, hurdles were faced during 2023 as the European Commission voiced opposition towards the combined carriers, whilst the US Department of Justice blocked the merger on competition grounds. For the merger to actually go-ahead, Korean Air needed the backing from the European Commission and the United States, and following the initial opposition revised their planned offers.
Concessions included selling-off Asiana Airlines Cargo subsidiary which was ironically Asiana Airlines most profitable subsidiary; Asiana Cargo was major sticking point for the European Commission as the combined carriers would have a monopoly of air cargo operations to and from South Korea towards Europe. The European Commission agreed for Korean Air to sell-off Asiana Cargo to small South Korea-cargo carrier, Air Incheon.
Other concessions included Korean Air having to transfer certain international flights to other carriers, the UK Department for Transport bizarrely agreed for Korean Air to give one of the Seoul-Incheon flights to Virgin Atlantic, who are in the same airline alliance, SkyTeam. Other flights such as Barcelona-El Pratt, Frankfurt-Main, Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Rome-Fiumicino would be transferred from Asiana Airlines to T'way who have acquired Korean Air's Airbus A330-200 fleet.
With the merger now completed, the process has now commenced of amalgamating Asiana Airlines into Korean Air; Asiana Airlines will be removed from Star Alliance to become part of SkyTeam, with the former Kumho Asiana Group branding gradually being removed from Asiana aircraft. Asiana's low-cost carriers which include Air Busan and Air Seoul will be amalgamated into Korean Air's Jin Air low-cost subsidiary.
The process of Asiana Airlines fading away into the history books officially begins...
Currently, Asiana Airlines operates 15 Airbus A330s, all of which are Airbus A330-300s.
