"This show is dedicated to my good friend Amona Savira, who left us earlier this year quite unexpectedly. Her passing was an absolute shock to me but sadly it was just one of a few losses I suffered this year. When Kate asked me to fill in this show slot that had been intended for Amona, I was happy to try and do it justice, even though other pressures didn't seem to want me to complete it. I think what I experienced this year with all the events in my life, is that regardless of how tragic and harsh things can be, you cannot let things consume you and paralyze you. Suffering, remorse, sadness are all healthy emotions but they must not take over your life. Keeping things in perspective and getting back to the business of living your life can be hard but must be a priority. It's hard and you can get lost. I know because I did get lost a bit this year. I know you all have experienced these things your self, this shoot was a bit of therapy for me. Thanks, Dr. Kate!"

I headed up to Round Bald yesterday morning to capture the first snowfall. I got up on the mountain extra early hoping to capture some starlight and then maybe a nice sunrise later (I know I was being pretty optimistic) unfortunately the mountain stayed soaked in the clouds all morning.
I finally gave up on the mountain clearing off and started back home. On the way home I saw this beautiful scene and had to turn around and find somewhere to capture it. I tried looking on Google Earth but could never find the name, but I'm pretty sure this is Fork Mountain which sets just to the south of the Roan.

Happy Fench Friday dear friends! Thanks for a wonderful year and looking forward to more! High Line, Manhattan, NY.
Tried doing this shot in late November, during the week and it was a nightmare as using a tripod was a no-no and it was full of people. A complete contrast to being there on Sunday where the place was empty and even though I could see security in at least one of the buildings, they didn't come out and ask me to 'move along', letting me fine-tune the comp with my tripod.
The Grand Canyon is one of my all-time favorite places to visit during monsoon season. Getting to this amazing view was not easy and it took much longer than I had anticipated. I could see the light was going to start breaking through the clouds so I needed to hurry. I ended up running the last couple miles with my heavy camera pack in tow, dodging cacti and rattlesnakes en route. As soon as I got to the rim, I downclimbed some rocks to a good vantage point for photography. The light lasted just long enough for me to fire off a couple shots and then it faded for the rest of the evening. Timing is everything in photography! Just so you can appreciate how vast this view is, I took this shot with my 11mm lens.
