This is a hackberry in my backyard that has a lot of memories for me. It's behind the apartment my dad used to live in before an incident that took my father away from me (he's not dead, just very far away). He hated that tree, and wanted to chop it down.. but he never did. I loved that tree, I thought it was pretty. My friends and I climbed it, a swing my dad built for me was in that tree for a year, I crashed into it with the go cart, sped around it on the four wheeler. idk lame story
Stone cross headstone in Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma, Washington

Rock Creek Cemetery is in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, D.C. (It's almost due north of the Capitol by about three miles and slightly west, so technically in the northwest part of the city.)
This cemetery predates the nation. It was established in 1719 in the British colony of Maryland. Under the new nation, it became part of the federal district and the cemetery was expanded, in a garden style. (Cemeteries in the 18th century had a park/garden feel where families would often go on weekends to relax.)
This cemetery has a handful of famous (or close-to-famous) folks interred here and also some high quality statuary (both on tombstones and in general).
Among those interred here are Gore Vidal, Upton Sinclair, and George McGovern. Some related-to-famous people include Alexander Graham Bell's father and Edgar Allan Poe's sister.
As for the sculptures you can find here are works by two famous sculptors: Gutzon Borglum (Rabboni-Foulke Memorial, 1909), Augustus Saint-Gaudens (Adams Memorial, 1890), and William Ordway Partridge (Kauffman Memorial, aka Seven Ages or Memory, 1890).
At the end of anything I can say about this place, I'll just say this: It may not be a place you'll ever see as a tourist/visitor, because there are so many other places to visit in town and your time is probably limited, which is understandable. However, if you do have a chance (and interest in cemeteries and the history/culture of burials), this is one of the better cemeteries you could hope to visit. It's relaxing, in a rolling hill setting, and simply pleasant to visit, especially if you catch it during the change of seasons as I did. (I'm curious how it might look in spring, and if there are lots of flowers in bloom here.)

They have several displays of machines and parts.
This one is ferrite core memory.
This picture also has 3 different numbers that are divisible by 9
I like the way the number 3202344 is printed, each number slightly crooked. I kept the picture crooked to match. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Today was a day filled with memories that will for ever be with me... From an amazing day / hangout with our good friends Adam & Megan to the passing of my fiance grandmother Roena. A day like this made me value every memory I have and to always keep them in my heart, mind and soul. Our loved ones play a huge role in our life and once they are gone all we have is those precious memories...

Weird how some things can just bring back such strong memories, so strong that it actually creates a physical reaction.
In this case it was a good thing - it isn't always! But, really, an amusement park ride? Yep, my whole childhood came rushing back to me.
American Motoring Memories is a classic car restoration shop in Culver City Calif. The owner Jeff Reade concentrates primarily on early Corvette restorations but is known to do total & partial restorations and update maintenance on many of the Big Three (GM, Ford, Chrysler) classics from the '50s to early 70's.
We all remember things when we were kids about the holidays that became a tradition or in some way came to represent or stick out in your minds. I know when I was a kid, the day after Thanksgiving, we would all go and walk across the brooklyn bridge into the city walk up to China-town. There we would play some skee-ball for a while in the arcades and then go on to see the sights. Now the day after Thanksgiving is the day I change out the cd's to Christmas music. This was one of my favorite albums as a kid. I think it was because it was the first time I had heard the song the little drummer boy. Actually wore the grooves out of it. Thankfully a friend of mine found it on CD for me a few years ago.
What are some of your favorite memories?
or Don't play with your memories and childhood silly cartoons!
The game doesn't look pretty fun! :P

Memories are forget-me-nots gathered along life's way,
Pressed close to the human heart into a perennial bouquet.
- Clara Smith Reber
O God of spirits, and of all flesh, who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil and given life to Thy world: Do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the soul of Thy departed servant Jaroslav, in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which he has committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin; for Thou only art without sin; Thy righteousness is to all eternity; and Thy word is truth.
For Thou art the resurrection, the life, and the repose of Thy servant, Jaroslav, who is fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, Who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Grant rest eternal in blessed repose, O Lord, to Thy servant Jaroslav, who has fallen asleep, and make his memory to be eternal!
spent thursday going to ELansing and Grand Ledge with my sister-in-law and all the kids. going down memory lane. for me it was personal in EL- which is my old college stomping grounds. You can't pass by EL without going to El Az for a topopo salad and then to the Dairy Store for the best ice cream in the state (yeah, Moomers is good too.) Then we ventured to Grand Ledge, where my husbands family is from. We walked downtown, hit up the elementary school, middle school, high school, and the island where the baseball field is located. Baseball is huge in GL. We even went into the local cinema, where the place was getting a much needed face lift; and the local 5&dime. I love that there is still a 5&dime!! It's the place my husband used to use his five-finger discount as a kid. I'm pretty proud that I knew most of the stories his sister told.... If I weren't still in the town I grew up in, I suppose it would be fun to go back for memories.... I feel like I've never really been away from here........
