15 megapixel goodness. It was very tempting, but I'm keeping my 5D over this one, even though the 50D has a gazillion more features than my 5D. Shot using my desktop product studio.

ift.tt/2MYsuXv Fujifilm recently announced the medium-sized GFX-50R camera, but this is not the only camera coming for large digital sensor enthusiasts. The company also announced that it will launch a 100 megapixel GFX camera next year, which will feature the IBIS feature.

Fujifilm has not provided much details about this camera, although it is expected to cost around $ 10,000 when released sometime in the next year. In addition to the IBIS feature, this camera will be able to shoot 4K video clips.

Two years have passed since Fujifilm announced the GFX-50S, the first digital camera in the company's medium format. Since then, it has released several lenses and announced more options for lenses that slide on the spear.

The new camera has a large design of the DSLR-like GFX-50S, and it seems to have a built-in grip from the bottom, which actually increases its expansion.

At Christmas, I received a Nikon D5100. I have a Nikkor 50mm f/1·4 G lens. Together they make a beautiful, lightweight camera.

This snap shot is full frame and has not been cropped. In Photoshop, the small area to the left of the front door was copied, enlarged and placed in the red box. The overall resolution has been reduced for posting on the internet. If you enlarge the whole image, that you now see on your screen, the detail is lost. However, the image in the red box is an indication of the resolution, over the whole of the picture, available in the original file.

Last year, with a Fuji S5, I carried out a similar exercise. It is interesting in that it shows the difference between 6 megapixels and 16 megapixels. With the Fuji image it is possible to view the whole image pixel by pixel. This is not possible with the image of the cottage because I suspect that you would not be pleased with a 12 megabyte file. Click here to view the 1 megabyte version.

This camera and lens will be living in my rucksack. And, ‘thank you’ to my benefactress.

A juvenile Western Gull flying in front of the Bay Bridge and helping me put a D800E I rented from Borrowlenses through its paces with my 300mm f/4 AF-S lens mounted. I deliberately aimed for doing a fairly tough full-frame shot, with the gull was flying quickly toward me and turning constantly as it flew into the wind, but the AF system still nailed focus on 3 out of 4 shots. This one is cropped moderately and adjusted to straighten the horizon, but even the crop is still a 21-megapixel image. The D800E is quite impressive camera, even if I don't have a kidney to spare in order to buy one!

Nikon D800E Dr. Elliot McGucken Fine Art Photography for Los Angeles Gallery Show!

Yet more photos and more final edits! I was up at 4:30 AM the past four days shooting sunrises! Awesome sunrises over Point Dume thie time of year in Malibu.

Then I spent all day today moving over 75 large photos into the gallery! Most of these are framed and matted with 13"x19" metallic prints and an 18"x24" mat and a 3" wood-grain black frame! They look awesome! Stop on by Bel Air Camera's Gallery downstairs if you are close to UCLA or in Westwood. Give me a head's up, and I will meet you there if I'm free.

I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!

And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!

The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)

Some (almost) final edits for December's Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" whihc is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!

80 Megapixel 100 image HDR Panorama. Originally 13983 x 5778 Pixels - Reduced to 2000 x 800 odd for flickr

To get this shot, I had to wade through the Farmers Friends (Sticky little seed things that get into your clothes and hang on for grim death), Jump a Barbed wire fence, and dodge through the cow pats, I've never seen so many cow pats in a field before, and I grew up on a farm!!!

This Consists of 2 rows of 5 shot HDRS - 10 shots per row. Stiched using Autopano Giga

I wanted to keep the colours fairly natural so i've done very little with it in the grand schemes of HDR.

Tenuous Link: fake leopard pattern >> real leopard pattern

********************************************************************************

For the ABCs & 1223s (pool) *J* is for Jaguar No, on 4-25-16 I decided to take him back out of this pool because I learned that a jaguar and a leopard are not the same animal.

*****************************************************************************

This leopard is an endangered species, at the Oregon Zoo, in Portland, Oregon. His whiskers weren't loading correctly so I replaced the picture with the new replace function. It is pretty cool. I took this picture through 2 or 3 inches of plexiglass, fighting off glare and small children (LOL) and with a hand held sub-megapixel camera. It addresses "My Story" and My Life As" a photographer who loves both wild and domestic animals.

816f011502leopardadjsimq

In middle January of 2006 I found out the female leopard at the Oregon Zoo, has cancer. Poor thing. They will make her comfortable to her end. I have an e-mail in to the zookeepers to them to ask if this is the male or the female and the names; so I know which one I have pictured here. I know the tigers, but it seems the leopards are more of a puzzle for me.

While waiting to hear from the zookeepers, who are probably busy grieving, I compared my photo to a news release photo, and of course I might be mistaken, but it appears to me that my picture is of Andrea, the female at the zoo who died Monday, January 23, 2006 from cancer. She was 14 years old. There are only 60 to 100 of these endangered species, Amur Leopards, living in the wild in the whole world. She is survived by her brother Frederick, who came to the zoo with her in 2000, from a zoo in Colorado.

****************************************

I was wrong. An employee of the Oregon Zoo wrote and told me this is Frederick, not Andrea. So his sister Andrea passed away a couple of days ago. Either one, it is sad, but I wanted to correct my information. I hope they will get a new companion for Frederick, but these leopards are pretty scarce.

Added 05-27-06 because I felt my answer to one of the comments added more to the story of Andrea and Frederick, the leopards.

Bagheera 101, thanks for the detailed comment on my picture of Frederick, the Amur (Siberian) Leopard. It was interesting to hear about it from the side of a volunteer who worked there.

Indeed your Mother must have been horrified to think your brother was that close to the leopard.

I have an interesting story about that little shed which you wrote about. I discovered a flaw in the security there, where someone could reach in and actually touch the real leopard. It wasn't very big, but big enough for someone to lose a hand if the leopard got annoyed. You would not believe, or maybe you would, how many departments and people at the zoo I had to contact to convince them that there was a place that was just air space, no fence, no glass, no plexiglass. Several people just sort of blew me off, and I am a zoo member. I live over 100 miles away; so it was long distance each time to call them. I offered to show them the place so they could see what I was talking about. I went back several times, and not a thing had been done. I called some more, and they said everything has a priority, and that wasn't one, and besides the leopard never went up on those timbers (sort of like floor joists, but no floor) anyway. I personally have witnessed the leopard up on those timbers several times. I could have reached in and pet her fur. I would have thought if a human could reach in and touch a leopard, that it would have been of more concern. Then they said they check everything when they enclose the animal. It took about 3 months, and finally someone did some makeshift work to cover the flaw. I love the animals, but do not feel that staff took me very seriously.

taken using the same 100w lamp but using a light tent. the color difference between my halogen lamp and fluorescent ceiling lamp is significant. the other walls of the light tent aren't reflecting much light and so the lighting is still harsh despite the scrim effect of the light tent wall i shine the halogen through. i estimate the effective size of the light source to be around the same as the model.

bottom pic is after some photoshopping. photoshop was pretty successful in brightening the image and correcting the color but was unable to rectify the blurryness.

overall conclusions :

- sufficiently bright light very important for good color

- if using more than 1 light source, they should be of the same type to get consistent color

- light source must be very big relative to model for really nice even lighting

- sharp focus is an absolute must

the main killers are probably insufficient light and the inability to focus well on near objects.

the k610i is pretty decent when taking pics of scenery in bright sunlight.

By this point, the internet is fairly full of Nikon D800 reviews. Photographers from around the world have largely confirmed that this camrea is a modern marvel. It boasts a 36.3-megapixel sensor and a bevy of professional video features to make even the most jaded photog drool in pure, unadulterated gear-lust.

Being a Nikon D700 shooter, I was curious if the rather large sum of money with which I parted would be sorely missed after shooting with the new beast. Rather than provide a point by point review, I thought I would stretch the sensor’s legs a bit and simply share the resulting frames.

I am happy to report that I am one happy customer. Not only does this camera slake the thirst of an admitted resolution junkie, but as we shall see in a moment, it’s high-ISO capabilities are out-of-the-park awesome. Rest assured, this camera is indeed in a class of its own.

A friend and I headed into the ruddy, amber confines of the Stanford Memorial Church at noon a few days ago to see what we could see.

I picked the church not only because it is close enough for me to sneak out and photograph on a quick lunch break, but also because it presents a dynamic range challenge that few other interiors can boast. There are a few hanging lanterns that cast a paltry yellow glow and a central, circular skylight that beams the gigalumens of the noon sun directly onto the floor. Consider also that the stations painted on the walls of the recessed porticos are in deep shadow and you have a dynamic range well above 14 stops.

What you see below are one exposure images from the D800, processed exclusively in Adobe Lightroom 4. The combination of this sensor and that software are nothing short of revolutionary.

A classic, but here curious, point of view towards a Bermeo gate.
