The only thing I shot at the last meetup I went to. Sometime between the start of the four hour round trip and the time it was supposed to start they decided to cancel because it was cold.

The Instagram account @IGersBoston hosted a great photowalk yesterday as part of instagram's #WWIM14 - worldwide instameet 14. I guess that means there have been 14 of them, but I only went to my first one last spring and this was my second.

I had shutter on these, and lighting was a combination of Cody Maher, Michael Strout and myself.
I did post, but this thing is looking a bit hot on the magenta ... I'll have to see if I can correct it after sleep. Maybe I messed up on the profile conversion ...

Phill Monson and I light painted this Grafton Utah Schoolhouse during the 'blue hour'. I set up a main light to the right, and a fill light to the left. Phill provided the backlight to the bell tower, and I lighted the inside through a back window. Compare to this photo taken at dusk.
This adobe schoolhouse was built in 1886. It was also used as a church and a public meeting place. Grafton, Utah is a pioneer farming community that was first settled in 1859. It is now a ghost town. The nearest inhabited town is Rockville, and Zion National Park is only about eight miles to the northeast. Continued flooding of the nearby Virgin River caused most of the families to resettle in nearby locations on the other side of the river.
My new ebook, Milky Way NightScapes, gives extensive details on my style of starry night landscape photography. Four chapters cover planning, scouting, forecasting star/landscape alignment, light painting, shooting techniques and post processing.

Last photo from my meetup with Barbara from a year ago. When we passed those rocks at the river (which you cannot see) close to my home, I had to do something with them!
I am giving away free postcards on my Facebook page. To participate, go here
I am posting much more photos of the meetup on Facebook than here on Flickr so if you want to see all of them, head over to my Facebook meetup album
