The Swedish west coast was shaped by glaciers, which left behind smooth rock surfaces and large rounded boulders. Geology at its best!

People visiting the Tasmanian Central Highlands and Great Lake this weekend would be greeted by heavy snowfalls as a polar blast strikes the island state. On the day I took this photograph it had been very cold (minus 9 the night before), but the air was dry and only remnants of past snowfalls could be seen in the shade. But the still air allowed me to get a fine reflection off the surface of the lake.
New horizons, seats to fill, seats to leave,
photos to take, people to meet.
A very Happy New Year to all of you.

This steam locomotive sits on the large turntable at the Don River Railway. The wonderful way the volunteers show off the treasures in their collection is based on the skills they have picked up working on this railway for a number of years. It is a museum, but very much a living one.
And it seemed that many others weren't either.
I felt particularly sorry for the bikers.
