A cenote is a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Especially associated with the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, cenotes were sometimes used by the ancient Maya for sacrificial offerings.Maya sacrificed objects and human beings into the cenote as a form of worship to the Maya rain god Chaac.

Here's a small weaving that I found at Sna Jolobil in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas. It certainly looks like the weaver used natural plant based dyes to color the threads she used. This weaving comes from Aldama, also known as Magdalenas, a Tzotzil Maya community with excellent weavers
This single web huipil comes from the municipio of El Bosque in the highlands of Chiapas Mexico. This is a Tzotzil Maya speaking area. This huipil was probably made sometime in the 1990's or early 2000's. Today, the cross stitch embroidery is done in very dark colors - navy blue, black, purple - a different kind of look
This woven sash would be worn by a man in the municipios of San Andres Larrainzar and Santiago El Pinar Chiapas Mexico. This very tightly woven belt is made not from cotton but from acrylic threads

This ancient Maya ruler has a very impressive headdress. From Yaxchilan Lintel 58, presently in the National Anthropology Museum, Mexico City.
Maya got some special attention ^^ Yesterday I washed her hair because I didn't like getting greasy fingers every time I touched her hair and I was afraid that the wig would stain when being a bit greasy. Today I cut her fringe a bit more so that you can see her pretty eye shape better :))

My little Maya is hard to photograph because she moves all the time.
She will be 8 months old on November 14th.
It's a real pot-de-glue and I can finally do something when she sleeps in the afternoon ;-)

Little Maya going to sleep soon with her panda. All her sisters are already fast asleep in their closet but this girlie wants to stay up and watch Animal Planet-channel in our bed :)
Gosh I love this girl even though she's one stubborn and strong willed girl ^^
Picture as grey as the weather. But we're on holiday so grey weather is a perfect excuse to stay indoors being lazy ^_^
Beijinhos *3*
Teller (jawante')
Fundort: Dos Pilas, Guatemala
Späte Klassik (710 - 730 n. Chr.)
Bemalte Keramik
