My work setup at the MATRIX

For those who wonder why I get so much color in my cloud- and sky-shots: matrix metering gives the corect values for the total image (left), while I use spot metering for the brightest spot or for the spot that I want to give my attention (right). The difference often is dramatic! (The time between these two shots is no more than 2 minutes.)

My camera is on the "A" setting most of the time which means that I choose the Aperture, and the camera chooses the shutter-speed that fits best for that setting. I never use "AUTO" and never use any of the fully automatic settings like "Portrait" or "Landscape". The reason why I prefer the "A"-setting is that only then (or in fully manual mode) can I exactly determine the Depth of Field.

Self Portrait (Silhouettes of Trent). "Infinity Mirrored Room--The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away," by Yayoi Kusama. Featured at the Broad Museum, Los Angeles, CA. Don't miss this exhibit...it's awesome. Yep, that's me, surrounded by only 75 light bulbs. But with mirrors, water, and illusions, there appears to be an infinite number of lights and projections of me.

Back in the '60s, '70s, and '80s, computers made their printout with dot-matrix printers - so called because each letter is printed with a rectangular grid (matrix) of metal needles. When the needles press against an inked ribbon, you get a pattern of dots making up the different letters, numbers, and symbols. The big advantage of this is that you can (theoretically) print any typeface (font) with only one small matrix of needles. The more needles, the better the print quality - although you can almost always see the dots. Letter-quality (LQ) and near letter quality (NLQ) printers supposedly had so many needles that the dots were all but invisible.

It's getting harder to find "preserved examples" of dot matrix print technology now, so I thought I'd better upload this old train ticket (from 2000) while I still could!

This one is in progress, but I’m pretty excited about it so I’m giving a little preview. (I may not have access to my editing software for a few days) I’m thinking of making this into a series inspired by the matrix.

Rather a nice profile showing the macho frown!

I think this mask has a lot more character to it than the old style Cactus/Koei face masks. It is also a lot more substantial and offers better protection from what I have read.

The Matrix Tactical Systems 'Navy Seal' is one of four paint styles of this mask available from the Evike store, costing $59.99. There is also woodland, Tiger stripe and plain olive drab versions: www.airsoftpost.com

I went for the two-tone brown scheme as it would go with a lot more loadouts - it looks more earthy and much more like camo paint has been applied to a real face (IMHO).

One of many chrysotile asbestos mineral ore samples on display in the town of Asbestos, Quebec, Canada, showing fibrous bundles on rocky matrix. This specimen is approx. 3-1/2 inches in width.

Again, apologies for the dim lighting and distracting reflections, this specimen display is inside a glass-enclosed former bookshelf located in a poorly-lit corner of the town's library (which was formerly a church building) now also a makeshift "asbestos museum". Image was shot through a locked glass panel, but is provided more for potential educational content than photographic quality.

The overall quality, quantity, and uniqueness of the mineral samples in this particular improvised facility probably deserve a better (and safer) exhibit-space to showcase the wide variety of asbestos (primarily chrysotile) and other world-class geological mineral specimens for scientific study.
