Eli Spizzichino (shown here) and his father Aldo collaborate on beautiful mathematical works of art, which were on display at the 2008 Festival di Matematica in Rome.

Sadly, this photo doesn't show the entire painting (or do justice to its colors) but you can see it and many more on their website at computedart.org/showgal-festival

Their website explains this painting as follows:

In the following work (The library of a mathematician, Fig. 34 ), two origami models of the great dodecahedron hang from the ceiling, oriented at different angles. The construction is similar to an origami made in paper: twenty trihedral dimples replace the faces of an icosahedron. The rendering in shaded colors is produced by polygonal spots clipped against the triangular facets, with color composition driven by the point location.

The Gables is a Gothic Revival home designed by mathematician David Baker and was built between 1832 and 1846 as a comfortable lodging for lawyers in Ipswich for court sessions. When Baker was unable to repay loans, Augustine Heard took possession.

When I first saw the Gables many years ago, I thought it was an octagonal house -- something I had read about but never seen. Augustine Heard iwas an admirer of Orson Squire Fowle, who popularized the octagon house, and in 1852 added 4 corners to the original house and an octagonal cupola.

NASA mathematician and aerospace engineer Dr. Christine Darden was Ursuline's STEM Day speaker. Students also performed experiments and participated in a Hackathon during Engineering Week.

Detail of the tomb in Salisbury Cathedral of Sir Thomas and Lady Gorges. Apparently Sir Thomas was a keen mathematician and had his tomb created before his death, hence the geometric shapes depicted here.
