I don't know what this Red-necked Grebe is transporting, it almost looks like a dirty net of some kind, but it ends up part of the grebe's nest. Makes sense!
Thought I'd give the ole 2X tele a try with the 600 and the new R5. I was curious to see how that combination works together and I think it looks great! What do you think?

It was one thing when the cat knocked over the rolls of Christmas wrapping paper and the basket of bows in the basement where they're stored. But when kitty somehow managed to turn on the faucet in the basement basin and knocked the plug into the drain, things got really bad...

Inspired and intrigued by this series event, also known as the golden compass, created this ;-) It's the "magic knife" series. Note: If you cut through to my photo, you must close the window again, otherwise you can never go back!! ;-) then always is winter and nothing blooms in orange!
Before you ask how I did it, I don't know anymore! My time is usually short, only sometimes I have time to play with Photoshop. I would have to write down the individual steps, but that would be boring, because then everything would always be the same. Anyway, I hope you like it ;-)

Here's a Red-shouldered Hawk on its way to the nest with some additional nesting material. I believe that the Florida Red-shouldered breed earlier than the species in other parts of the country. Once site had them breeding from January to May when general reference books state the species breed from May to July. In any event, I'm hoping that they are not just faking us out and that we have some new chicks to celebrate. In the course of my reading I learned that the females are larger than the males (probably smarter too) and that the pair are monogamous. Having said that, I've never been able to see the size difference but will pay more attention in the future. Happy 2023 everyone. (Buteo lineatus)

It was great to see the pair of Black-shouldered Kites back in the Sneydes Rd area this morning. I observed them collecting nesting material again.
I will be back later to catch up - got to run for now.

This nuthatch flew to a tree right next to me and began pulling at this fine material for nest building. Completely ignoring me, allowing me to compensate for the strong back light.

A Dark-eyed Junco pauses briefly with a trove of nesting material before taking it to add to a structure hidden among grasses on the ground. This bird was seen at Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site near Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

E nessuno, nessuno, nessuno che spenda una parola per dire quanto sia sbagliato e falso e stupido che il tessuto - la componente di gran lunga più importante di ogni capo d'abbigliamento, la sua sostanza ed essenza, la sua materialità e la sua prima immagine, ciò che per primo si vede e si tocca, la ragione principe per cui si decide se comprare o no - sia così svilito da rappresentare solo una minima parte del costo del capo, mentre la parte di gran lunga preponderante è rappresentata dall'utile del confezionista dalle mani crudeli e dai costi della pubblicità dei ragazzini sorridenti!
È così che si entra nella fase terminale della storia della piccola imprenditoria tessile italiana, quando alla fisiologica concorrenza, alla sana lotta per il guadagno si sostituisce una furibonda battaglia per assicurarsi niente più che una sopravvivenza tiepida e sempre più stenta; quando gli imprenditori si sentono consolati dal solo fatto di poter continuare ogni giorno a dirsi e farsi chiamare industriali quando invece non fanno altro che scimmiottare il loro recente passato, senza accorgersi di avviare a somigliare agli zombi di Romero, quelli che da morti continuavano ad andare al supermercato perché si ricordavano d'aver fatto solo questo in vita...''

Sunny here this afternoon after a grey morning.
Mangrove Swallow gathers nesting materials in March near the shore of Crooked Tree Lagoon. Funny Story: this guy sat there and kept eyeing the bigger stick you see in front of him. He finally dropped the small pieces of grass and flew off with the bigger stick which was nearly two feet long! I'm sure the Mrs. was impressed.

Wupatki National Monument in Arizona. These structures were abandoned about 1200 A.D., so to me, it's amazing that so many structures in this area are still standing.
Saw a pair gathering nesting material, watched for 1hr 50mins, they were both returning frequently, fascinating !

It looks as though this greater coucal (centropus sinensis) is about to peck its way into a large fruit. Not true!! The bird was actually gathering nesting material by pulling off individual leaf fibres. Photographed in Khao Lak, Phang Nga, Thailand.
