Masters store located on the corner of North Lake Road and Phoenix Road - one of nine stores in Western Australia for the Woolworths-Lowes (USA) joint venture in hardware. Opened in mid 2012 it was located in a cutting partially obscured from the road opposite Adventure World theme park. Heavy losses against incumbent rival Bunnings in part due to an aggressive expansion (often next to Bunnings stores such as this one) and low sales have seen Woolworths abandon the category altogether and announce closure of the chain by early December 2016 with a liquidation sale starting August of the year. These shots were taken early in the closing down sale.
The stores (including several development sites) have been sold to Home Consortium who will reconfigure the sites to a combination of Spotlight, Anaconda, JB Hi Fi, The Good Guys and Woolworths supermarkets. Rival Bunnings will take over 15 of the 61 stores open. Liquidation is being carried out by the Great American Group with evidence seen in the large 'STORE CLOSING' and 'GOING OUT OF BUSINESS' signs more commonly seen in the closing of large stores in the United States.
HALO
Master Chief & Recon
Personal Project
My new friend Philip is a huge Halo fan, just like me. However, I think the fandom goes more in his favor, as he made this Master Chief suit out of paper.
Paper. He made it out of paper.
It's incredible to see in person, and when he sent me a snapshot of it, I knew I had to photograph it.
This is personal work, much like the Legend of Zelda and Wolverine series' I did over the last few years.
I had a total blast making these images.
Blog post coming soon.

Masters store located near the Toorak Road-Auburn Road intersection which is one of 18 stores in Victoria for the Woolworths-Lowes (USA) joint venture in hardware. Opened in April 2013 it was built on a long abandoned gasworks site adjoining the now busy Monash Freeway with the compact site meaning it was provided with underground car parking. Heavy losses against incumbent rival Bunnings in part due to an aggressive expansion (often next to Bunnings stores) and low sales have seen Woolworths abandon the category altogether and announce closure of the chain by early December 2016 with a liquidation sale starting August of the year. Adding to my collection of the rare Visa and Master Charge combination of window stickers. BankAmericard renamed itself Visa in 1976 and Master Charge became Master Card in 1979, leaving a three-year time frame for this combination of stickers to appear.
This is the fifth time I've found this combination (and second time on this particular trip). The other locations are:
And a storefront in Poughkeepsie had the BankAmericard/Master Charge combo but I believe that is now gone.
When I saw this work area, I immediately heard "The Master's Bouquet" in my mind...the Ralph Stanley/Clinch Mt. version...
"Death is an angel sent down from above sent for the buds and the flowers we love
Truly 'tis so for in heaven's own way each soul is a flower in the Master's bouquet
Gathering flowers for the Master's bouquet beautiful flowers that will never decay
Gathered by angels and carried away forever to bloom in the Master's bouquet
Loved ones are passing each day and each hour passing away as the life of a flower
But every bud and each blossom some day
Will bloom as a flower in the Master's bouquet
Gathering flowers for the Master's bouquet...
Now let us be faithful till life's work is done
Blooming with love till the reaper shall come
Then we'll be gathered together that day
Transplanted to bloom in the Master's bouquet
Gathering flowers for the Master's bouquet..."
I see the chair I see the family being fed, I see the craftsman growing older...I see the children raised, and the lessons taught.
All flowers in the Master's bouquet.
Masters store located on Thompsons Road near the South Gippsland Highway intersection which is one of 18 stores in Victoria for the Woolworths-Lowes (USA) joint venture in hardware. Opened in 2015 it was built within the Cranbourne Homemaker Centre immediately next door to an established Bunnings store. Heavy losses against incumbent rival Bunnings in part due to an aggressive expansion (often next to Bunnings stores such as this one) and low sales have seen Woolworths abandon the category altogether and announce closure of the chain by early December 2016 with a liquidation sale starting August of the year. And this past weekend I got to watch another one of my best friends, Dave, receive his Master of Divinity. His wife is pretty happy graduate school is almost finished; he has a few months left on his Master of Science in Clinical Counseling, after which he intends to begin work as a hospital chaplain.
Today is my last day working in Phnom Penh with Pact Cambodia. The decision was made that I could better support the global program in Africa (Kenya), while continuing to provide remote support to Cambodia. I know this is the right choice in the long run, but it's been very sad to think about packing up my stuff, leaving my colleagues Sakphea and Thavy, and moving back to Kenya.
To celebrate all that we've accomplished so far this year, I took Sakphea and Thavy out to lunch at Master Suki Soup on Monday. Suki Soup is a very popular Chinese hot-pot style Khmer restaurant all over Phnom Penh. It can be expensive so it is usually reserved for special occasions. I thought this was a perfect one!
We picked the location across the Tonle Sap (river) because it was brand-new. We were the only car there for lunch and had a real run of the place. I gave them the menu and told them to go crazy ordering whatever they wanted. We had fish balls and thinly cut steak, veggies, tofu, and mushrooms. The sauce was especially delicious, as I know Sakphea and Thavy would agree with me :o).
We had a lovely afternoon and I will forever remember all the special times I shared with the WORTH program in Cambodia, the life-long friends I made there, and the incredible work we've all done to improve the lives of women in Cambodia. I love you Sakphea and Thavy! :o)

I recently came across some photos that my friend Bill took of the day I took my 3rd degree and became a Master Mason. It was held at the Rose of Sharon Lodge in Charlton, Massachusetts.

Opened in early 2015 it adjoins a Woolworths supermarket and other specialty stores next door. Heavy losses against incumbent rival Bunnings in part due to an aggressive expansion (often next to Bunnings stores) and low sales have seen Woolworths abandon the category altogether and announce closure of the chain by early December 2016 with a liquidation sale over the coming months.
