Previously owned by the Marshall Field family, the Mart centralized Chicago's wholesale goods business by consolidating vendors and trade under a single roof.
Field's Fans Chicago staged a protest today, the anniversary of Macy's killing the Marshall Field's store brand. We hung out at the State Street store, where things heated up. And when it was done, we went to go have Frango Mint Ice Cream Pie in the Walnut Room inside Macy's.

Jason, Janice and I make a yearly trip to Chicago to see Tuba Xmas (wikipedia). A lot of years we're a bit late and don't get seats, but can listen in. This year we were crazy early and were able to sit and listen and watch. To be honest the way the room is setup there isn't that much to see, but it's pretty cool to listen to. Afterwards we walk around the German Village in Daley Plaza and around on State Street and Michigan Avenue. I didn't take the SLR as the weather was a bit iffy, but I got some decent shots with the PNS.

Marshall Field's has been Macy's for a couple of years now. Many decades ago, Field's devoted an entire multifloor section of its Loop flagship facility to goods and services for men. Clothes, sporting goods, even shortwave radios could be found in The Store for Men. This sign on the side of the Wabash side of the building is all that remains of that marketing concept.
