I love downtown, but anybody who would drive down here, especially at this time of year, should have his head examined.
The Macy's building (formerly Marshall Field's) in downtown Chicago has a gorgeous Tiffany-designed ceiling. For the best view, head up to the fifth floor (oddly, in the women's intimates section).
The original Marshall Field's (now a Macy's (!!)) on State & Lake in Chicago. A mandatory Christmas experience for Chicago.
Memorial to Marshall Fields' employees who died in World War II. located on the now-Macy's seventh floor.
Seven tons of bronze clock hanging at the corner of Macy's store at State and Randolph, downtown Chicago Illinois.
this year it's macy's but they are fighting to bring marshall field's back...who will win?! either way, i loooooove this place!
Wear a Grateful Dead T-Shirt, make faces at your mother, play with the stir sticks and eat cherries out of your mother's orange blossom mimosa. Actually, Ben was very well-behaved. He just started getting a little antsy the last few minutes. Who could blame him? What was I thinking taking my high school freshman to a froo-froo tea room for brunch? :-) (and there is nothing wrong with wearing a Dead shirt!)
At Christmas, there's nothing to compare with the sights, sounds and display windows of an urban department store like Macy's (the former Marshall Field). Malls just can't compare.
Famous ceiling in Marshall Fields store in downtown Chicago. Beautiful. There are better pictures of it here on flickr and elsewhere, but this is the one I took.
Not open at all-this on the Harlem Avenue side of the building. Front is on Lake Street. A lot of dust has collected in this space.
Jason, Janice and I make a yearly trip to Chicago to see Tuba Xmas (wikipedia). A lot of years we're a bit late and don't get seats, but can listen in. This year we were crazy early and were able to sit and listen and watch. To be honest the way the room is setup there isn't that much to see, but it's pretty cool to listen to. Afterwards we walk around the German Village in Daley Plaza and around on State Street and Michigan Avenue. I didn't take the SLR as the weather was a bit iffy, but I got some decent shots with the PNS.
