A Marshall Fields, or ummm Saks Christmas display on State St, Chicago

The view in the Chicago Pedway from the northwest area of the Macy's (former Marshall Fields) building. Looking east.

This photo is part of a numbered series of photos inside the Pedway that I took in April 2022. The Pedway is a network of underground pedestrian tunnels, passageways and connections in downtown Chicago.

Constructed in 1907, it now houses Macy's.

The Macy's building (formerly Marshall Field's) in downtown Chicago has a gorgeous Tiffany-designed ceiling. For the best view, head up to the fifth floor (oddly, in the women's intimates section).

Along with my SLR, I brought the Sony FD73 (0.3MP) with for a little show-and-tell.

The Christmas tree inside Marshall Field's

The day before the wedding, I hung out with my EXCELLENT family. I am very close to my cousin Ani, probably because she's sort of goofy, like me.

It is getting dark sooner and sooner. Fall must be here.

The Tiffany glass ceiling in Marshall Fields (now Macy’s) on the 5th floor is the largest of its kind in the world.

Designed as a smaller version of the downtown Chicago Marshall Field store, this Oak Park location, at the corner of Lake and Harlem, was closed in the '80's, along with its downtown Evanston counterpart. Customers of the closed stores were encouraged to shop at Oakbrook (Oak Park customers) or Old Orchard (Evanston patrons).

Marshall Field III bought the property in 1921 and had an estate house built in 1925, one of the largest estates of the Gold Coast mansions.Field named the property "Caumsett", after the Matinecock tribe's original name for the peninsula meaning "place by a sharp rock"

State St. Macy's/Field's store, Chicago, 1/31/09. should have posted this sooner, but I just finally posted this betterlatethannever (and brief and perfunctory) blog post about the inauguration this week, one of 3 new blog posts in 3 days (City of Destiny is back...I hope)

State Street: the former Marshall Field's

Jennifer and I went into the old Marshall Fields Store on State Street. I took this on our way up to the 7th floor to see the Christmas tree in the restaurant.

Continuing the Dayton's Holiday tradition, in 2001 - Marshall Field's, Minneapolis

Jean, goddess of craft and payer of half of my rent shot these for a calendar she is making of Chicago landmarks and her car. Long story.

As you can see, this is substantially similar to the Oak Park one. The face itself is different here, though, showing all 12 numbers. This building is (surprise!) condos, a Panera, a beauty salon, and a couple of other small shops.

On November 26th, 1897, this historic Marshall Field clock at this building (now Macy's) on Washington & State Streets in downtown was installed. It soon became a Chicago landmark. The original clock was replaced in 1907 with the clock we see today. The clock on the corner of State & Randolph was installed in 1904.

Both of these Great Clocks were designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst & White. Each clock is made of 7 tons of cast bronze and are attached to the structure with ornamental ironwork. The face of the clock is 46 inches across while the minute hand is 27 inches long and the hour hand is 20 1/2 inches.

On November 3rd, 1945, the clock was made famous in a Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post cover with a repairman setting the landmark clock with his own pocket watch.
