Signs of spring are finally showing in Chicago city limits as CN L512 (KSW3) approaches the state line behind an EJ&E SD38-2 appropriately passing one of the few EJ&E mile markers left in existence. The marker indicates three miles to South Chicago where the EJ&E had a connection with the B&O at 86th Street just west of the US Steel South Works. It is one of at least two mile markers on the Lakefront Branch.
The emblem at the top of the stone is a "Fire Devil". Company 788 earned the nickname "Fire Devils" from battling forest fires in Minnesota before moving to Kansas to build the dam.
The concrete foundations of the barracks the men stayed in are found to the camera left and was named Camp Kinney.

Received some metallic Markers and created this loose image of a waterfall( 8 x 12). The white is added by a permanent white marker. A fun image to create!
Each marker has one side with an explanation of the Borscht Belt. The other side gives information specific to the individual markers location. This is that side on the Hurleyville Marker.

Pou whenua are wooden posts that mark territorial boundaries or places of significance. They are generally artistically and elaborately carved and can be found throughout New Zealand.
