This time around I wanted to explore *color* using the mirror lens filter, but instead of objects I opted for color paper arrangements as subjects. This is Post-It page markers.
Markers along several trails traversing the Albany County Pine Bush Preserve, a large area set of protected land set aside to preserve a unique environment in upstate New York.

Gulf of Mexico in Florida seems very shallow in place. Here in Hudson these markers show the way to deeper waters.
I played a lot with this photo in post. Hopefully not to much.
Many years ago, the Pearl River flowed here. The river changed course. A shallow area was created by the deposition of sediments as the river retreated. During periodic low water, seedlings of water-tolerant cypress and tupelo trees gained a foothold. The trees you see today are a result.
Water tupelo and bald cypress trees can live in deep water for long periods. After taking root in the summer when the swamp is dry, the seedlings can stay alive in water deep enough to kill other plants.
The trail at this location leads through an abandoned river channel. As the channel fills with silt and vegetation, black willow, sycamore, red maple, and other trees will gradually replace the bald cypress and water tupelo. Also if you look closely you may see juvenile alligators sunning themselves on floating logs and other vegetation.
This location is also a trailhead for the Yockanookany Section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail. This trailhead is located directly across the paved Parkway from the Cypress Swamp site. Hikers may hike south 14.1 miles to the West Florida Boundary, north 8.9 miles to the Yockanookany Trailhead, or any distance they chose on this out and back trail.

Elliptical marker. This image was taken while I was sitting in my car. It was raining. The rainwater on the car window created some intriguing visual distortions that were augmented by the DOF seen by the optics of the camera, and the selective framing of the zoom.
A marker shows the spot of an unsuccessful exploratory oil well drilled on the Shoshone Anticline north of Cody Wyoming. The marker on this dryhole reads:

There is no surface expression of the anticlinal structure in this photo as the shales that are exposed at the crest are covered with gravels and soils along the Idaho Creek Drainage. The result is flat terrain covered with sage brush. Cody Wyoming and The Horse Center Anticline can be sEen in the far distance but barely. In the 1960s Cody was the corporate headquarters of Husky Oil.
Many of the rust markers on the sign are from dents or bullet holes made by shooters who used the marker for target practice.
309/365 Man I promise I'll get some more interesting shots up soon. I forgot to bring my tripod with me and I don't have many places to shoot at my Dad's. I'm quite looking forward to going home now, I need to get some work done and get some more shifts cause I need moneyyyy. Damn it we're back to school in two weeks. I don't wanna go back :(

Went down to Cramond last week and the tide was still too high for the defences and the sun too far round and spotted this marker that I thought would be a great subject.
It's nice to get some good light and this night certainly had it.
Just got a separate and bigger monitor for my Laptop so hopefully will aid my processing. The colour balance looks so different so not sure how this looks to others; but after working on laptop all the time it certainly seems to be an improvement
The name of my village, Markyate, refers to boundaries ('mark' and 'gate'). When you mark something out, you are drawing boundaries around it. Markers are signs pointing to these boundaries, many of them imaginary. There are plenty of these in the village.
The Sun Inn has long gone. The sign is still there. During the high time of the stage coaches connecting London with the Midlands, from the 17th to the 19th century, before the railways took over, there were plenty of pubs in Markyate, hotels, wheelwrights and so on, all catering for the passengers, the drivers, the horses and the coaches coming through. Today, there are only three pubs left (and one of them is new and serves drinks only, so, not really a "pub").
