The school handed out Red Megaphones for our fans to cheer us on with. We heard you all! AS Chillicothe Pearce Mustang students celebrate a 3rd Quarter comeback after being down by 8 at Half-time to heavily favored Rantoul who beat two undefeated teams on the way to this FINAL. It was the first time we were down all year at half-time but overcame it thanks to our Fans.

I installed a television card in my computer, which allowed me to watch one game on a monitor and stream a second on the net on my other. It was a glorious day. Have I mentioned I love March Madness?

This is actually a photo on the 1st day of the 1972 IESA State Tournament on Saturday. ALL 16 teams in the Sweet 16 Tourney lined up for these photos. It was a busy day. The entire team and cheerleaders got to stop off at SANDY's in Peoria IL on the way home for late Lunch after we won. The IESA added the label after the Tournament for future records. Thanks to the folks at IESA for this photo and copies of the Score Books for our games at STATE 1972.

Last year, Dan and I went to a bar to watch some of the first (okay second, if you listen to their new nomenclature) round of the March Madness tournament, and it was so fun getting to watch several games at once. Even though I kind of miss out on the beer part, we decided to make it a tradition. Even cooler, we went to the local German restaurant that we discovered (that has a TON of beers on tap and lots of really authentic German food) and it wasn't crowded at all. (They even have specialty glasses for the various types of beer they serve; so classy.)

Our only loss of the year. WE finished 22-1 and lost to Pekin IN Pekin IL by one on a long, LONG shot off a screen. Even with that, we managed the ball to half court with 2 seconds left, Tony Razo shot one that went down in and spun out. We got ripped off bad by REFS, 4 guys fouled out for us none for Pekin. Afterwards some bigger kids from Pekin High tried getting on our BUS after the game as we waited for everyone to get on. Our Health Teacher Ted Sterling was the only adult on the bus. He jumped up and said, What do you want? GET OUT OF HERE! They wanted to fight us, we had heard how dirty and violent Pekin was all the time. There were fights at Football games in the past between our high schools. They backed down the stairs still cussing and threatening us. SUDDENLY ..the Vice Principal of the School came flying by our bus windows, screaming ...YOU LITTLE !!.. he held both arms out and clothes-lined 3 kids at once knocking them all to the ground. He then apologized to us on the bus. The coaches and bus drivers showed up finally and wondered what the heck was going on. We vowed to make it to the STATE Tournament and beat Pekin down there after all this. Later we both made it there to STATE. Pekin IL was undefeated. They LOST their first game. WE went on to WIN it all. Won STATE and got the final laugh as we beat a heavily favored team that had beat 2 undefeated teams themselves. WE WIN! :0))

March Madness at the library pitted different YA books and genres against each other, plus a showdown of many popular adult titles as well!

There is only one thing that today means to me...

Box scores. My first basket of the year here in East Peoria IL. I farted on the way up to bank it in. We all laughed, including the opposition.

Played Peoria Heights which was always fun. The PABST Brewery was 2 blocks away from their school up on the hill. The whole area smelled like BEER/Yeast.

One of many box-scores from our old Grade School team. Chillicothe Library has kept ALL the old Chilli-Bulletin NEWS papers in large hard-bound books going way-WAY back. I used the Chilli Library and Peoria IL Library in my research back then.

I remember being happy at this early game in the season. Joe Bailey our neighbor and friend got a basket. He was always over practicing with my brother and me in our backyard basketball court.

I is for... Indifferent. Tigger is indifferent about this picture. She doesn't care one way or another about whether I take the shot or not.

Tigger has been so fun to have around lately. She's my little buddy.

Random Fact: I have someone new working in my classroom. She greeted me with a Buenos Dias yesterday, she didn't even realize that I was writing that as the greeting of the day for the kiddos.

Big win against Bartonville IL who everyone said would beat us because of a kid named Biggs. Mr. Miller and the Razos took care of Mr. Biggs that night. Same for the County Tournament later on when they tried running a STALL on us but we still won by 15.
