A sergeant from Greater Manchester Police’s Salford Central Neighbourhood Policing Team will be running her first marathon next month to raise money for the Salford Lads and Girls Club.

Sergeant May Preston will take part in the Belfast Marathon on 7 May 2012, which is the day of her 30th birthday.

May chose to run for the charity after she witnessed first hand the valuable work that they do for young people living in the Salford area.

Sergeant May Preston said: “Because of the job that I do, I meet a lot of young people and was really impressed by the work that the Salford Lads and Girls Club does.

“It’s a really iconic building and it’s great that they have stayed close to their roots and chosen to do so much good within the area to make Salford a better place to grow up.

“To show my support, I will be running my first marathon on my 30th birthday and hopefully will be able to raise a decent amount of money for them.”

Leslie Holmes from the Salford Lads and Girls Club said: “It’s great to know that Sergeant May Preston appreciates the work of the club and we are delighted to confirm our support for her fundraising. We hope to build on this support and we look forward to working with our local police in the future.”

The 41st BRENTWOOD Half Marathon had over 3.000 runners. Again there was NO BAND and this year NO MAYOR at the Start. There was only ONE 'Fancy Dress' entrant, running with a Washing Machine , very poor this year ! I used my 2005 8MP OLYMPUS E-500 4/3rds Digital and tried the 'Sports Exposure Mode' for when they were running to see if it kept them in focus. These are two 'Pace Makers'
