This crazy guy had just completed a 500 mile run through Alaska, and still had enough energy left to click his heels together in the high country near Eureka. I loved the happy shadow that mimicked his moves.

* Note; The "crazy Guy" happens to be our son Paul, and although he looks very young - he is 44 years old and the father of four children.

Over the course of several days, we watched as this Chipmunk tirelessly ran back and forth, up and down, over and over, as he proceeded to empty this feeder of safflower seed one mouthful at a time.

Racing from his borough, over to the holly bush, jumping on one of the stone owls so he could leap up into the bush, maneuvering quickly through the branches up to the feeder, and finally leaping onto the edge of the feeder. Then back down the same route.

Needless to say, the feeder needed refilling much earlier than usual, thanks to Mr. Chippy!

He runs marathons for charity all over the world.

That is his job.

There was an article about him in a magazine and they wanted a 'special' image to go with it.

This was set up in our studio and this was the creative idea I came up with.

All done in camera, on film, no digital manipulation.

The procedure is called stroboscopy or strobe flashing.

The photography and study of subjects in motion has been one of the fascinations of photographers since its invention.

There are several factors that need to be considered, adjusted and controlled to end up with technically effective photographs made in this manner.

These include knowledge and the ability to adjust the flashing rate of the stroboscope, the influence of the background on the final image, the choice of exposure time and knowledge of the output or power of the individual flashes produced by the studio lights.

It is NOT just flash!

This photograph was not taken with a stroboscope, but strobe-flashing.

The 41st BRENTWOOD Half Marathon had over 3.000 runners. Again there was NO BAND and this year NO MAYOR at the Start. There was only ONE 'Fancy Dress' entrant, running with a Washing Machine , very poor this year ! I used my 2005 8MP OLYMPUS E-500 4/3rds Digital and tried the 'Sports Exposure Mode' for when they were running to see if it kept them in focus.

"You don't buy tires on looks, or color or weight; you have to put your faith in what you are told about them. . .

"The service must be in the tires, not in the words used. We make Marathon Tires that way -- by hand, not by machinery; hand work is better than machine work in tires; it costs more. Marathon tires cost more than others; they're worth more."

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Sokol, an all-age athletic organization first founded in Prague in 1862. It was based upon the principle of “a strong mind in a sound body." and traced its roots in physical education to the athletes and warriors of Ancient Greece. The movement soon spread across all the regions populated by Slavic cultures. The word “Sokol” means falcon, a symbol of freedom among Slavs at the time. There were local and regional Sokol events yearly, called Slets, with huge “All-Sokol” national and even international Slets at longer intervals.

Sokol developed and thrived during the heyday of postcards, the late 19th and early 20th century. In Prague, Sokol cards were a high art. Hundreds of postcards, many designed by famous artists of the era, were produced as advertising and souvenirs for Sokol events. Gymnastics and calisthenics are central to the Sokol physical culture system, and Slets incorporate demonstrations and competitions of those activities, which are featured prominently on many of the postcards.

Leslie completed her 15th Marathon in a personal best time. I shoot the Phoenix Rock 'n' Roll Marathon so I was able to be there at the finish line. The only drawback is all that I have for personal photos is my cell phone.

It can be interesting to examine what runners wear. In this case, she is wearing gloves...and a sports bra.

The issue with running is that it is very easy to overheat. At the same time, extremities can get cold - so the sports bra and gloves combination might not be as weird as it seems.

On the other hand (no pun intended), hands eventually warm up, too, and then get too hot. I personally have to remove gloves in all but the most extreme circumstances (like, for example, a St. Patrick's Day run that I did one time when it was 15 degrees F outside).

“Joy is in the journey and it’s so much more fun to play in the magic of the unknown!” - Brittany Charboneau

Believe with all your might in the magic that surrounds you. You are surrounded by light, if you allow it into your life. It guides you, protects and supports you. You also have the power to share that light with others. Let your curiosity for the unknown be the path you take. Bring joy and breathe life into everything that you do and never apologize for the beautiful person that you are.

Odino Soligo runs the Toronto half-marathon at 85 years old.

Shot with my iPhone SE on a rainy day in the TownPark Mall area. It was pretty dirty, so I used PhotoToaster to clean it up and such. I think it’s pretty funny. For those of you who wouldn’t even walk a Marathon, they are 26.2 miles!

Granted not the best shot by any stretch of the imagination. It's more to document the apparent appearance of a second chipmunk to our backyard!

This little chippy seems to have a borough in front of our neighbor's house. My sister has seen chippy rounding the corner of that house, scurrying down our driveway, squeezing through a gap in the gate, racing across our deck, down the steps, grabbing a cheek full of treats, and then returning the same way at supersonic speed.

And the little rascal has done this over, and over, and over and over. We joke that by the end of the day those little legs must truly be exhausted! Which might also explain why it seems to only show up every other day. LOL!

Steamtown marathon 2016. The woman in the right of the picture is a seventy year old marathon runner nearing the finish line after running over twenty six miles. That is awesome. You go girl!

I used a Samsung NX500 mirrorless body with a vintage yashica 1.4 50mm lens. I have a lot of old prime and zoom lenses and I like using them: though for this type of photography, where speed is required, they are not the best choice. More suited for landscape or portrait I think.

It was a great race, well organized, perfect weather, and everyone was smiling. Well done Scranton.

Rock n Roll Marathon

A very happy marathon runner four blocks from the finish line.

At mile 7 at 8:00 this fellow was almost a full minute ahead of runner #2. I wonder how he did at the end.
