Red Maple Leaves in Northern Arizona

7/29/12 Maple Leaf Park, Seattle (Copic Multiliner SP pen, watercolor, Pentalic sketchbook)

(It will be 200 leaves if I ever get around to making that last one!) These are 3" blocks so it's not going to be a terribly big quilt. This is a paper-pieced pattern from small-expressions.com.

This maple leaf was shot through the moon roof of my car while sitting in the driveway. It had fallen from a nearby tree during a rain the previous night.

I don't know what to call this style of creation. Does anyone know? It's common enough that there must be a name for it in the advertising industry if nothing else. I find it clever, but it's common enough that I feel it's probably also cliche. I've photographed these in real life from various forms of advertising, such as posters, signs, and magazines. I have still more that I've seen and collected from sources online, but I don't post those online.

Possibly my second-favourite of these I've seen. Seen at Canada Place, Vancouver.

I believe this is a vine maple. Grows like a weed in our wooded backyard. Caught this leaf in the sunlight with a wee bit of fill flash.

The westbound Maple Leaf, Amtrak train 63, on track 1 passing CSX ES44DC no 5304 and C40-8W no 7906 stopped on the control siding at the west end of DeWitt Yard with a train of aluminum ore.

This was just a dirty, dead, dark brown maple leaf until I asked my wife to hold it up to the sun.
