Turned the lights off in the sugarhouse late this evening and messed around with a few fun shots. Good evening for us, we boiled down about 110 gallons of sap to make about 4 gallons of wonderful "a-medium" grade maple syrup

On the day we had to visit the Kinkakuji temple (the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, but officially, the Rokuon-ji temple, the Deer Garden Temple) in Kyoto, Japan, it was raining a slow, steady, soaking rain. The grounds were magnificent in their autumn colours, and the red maples were especially beautiful. Great day for photos. Lousy day for keeping dry. - JW
Tech Details:
Taken using a hand-held Nikon D5000 fitted with a Nikkor 18-105mm VR lense set to 105mm, ISO640, Aperture priority mode, f/5.6, 1/160 sec. PP in GIMP: slight tone curve adjustment to brighten up some of the highlight areas, colour and saturation are SOOC, sharpen, add fine black and white frame, add bar and text on left, scale to 1024 wide for posting.

I made my yearly sojourn down to the Minnesota North Shore this weekend for some early fall colour - while I found some nice colour concentrated in a few areas (notably in the Tettegouche State Park / Finland, MN area), peak colour still seems a week (or two) away in most of the other north shore state parks. The maples are coming in most places they are growing, but the poplars still have a ways to go...
