As crossposted on our photoblog, pleasantly tilted.

Turned the lights off in the sugarhouse late this evening and messed around with a few fun shots. Good evening for us, we boiled down about 110 gallons of sap to make about 4 gallons of wonderful "a-medium" grade maple syrup

On the day we had to visit the Kinkakuji temple (the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, but officially, the Rokuon-ji temple, the Deer Garden Temple) in Kyoto, Japan, it was raining a slow, steady, soaking rain. The grounds were magnificent in their autumn colours, and the red maples were especially beautiful. Great day for photos. Lousy day for keeping dry. - JW

such pretty colors this past autumn

I made my yearly sojourn down to the Minnesota North Shore this weekend for some early fall colour - while I found some nice colour concentrated in a few areas (notably in the Tettegouche State Park / Finland, MN area), peak colour still seems a week (or two) away in most of the other north shore state parks. The maples are coming in most places they are growing, but the poplars still have a ways to go...
