Light strobes through a stand of Manuka forest canopy as we enjoy the coolness of the bush on a hot sunny day.
Generally the track was in the bush for the entire walk, with breaks for a view down into the bays from time to time. Walking in the forest makes me feel so good, and it's not just me. Janey feels the same too... something relaxing and 'right' about the whole thing. Can't get enough of it!

A river-side fringe of willow trees layered in front of some New Zealand native manuka (possibly kanuka too?), along the Taieri River.
Taken not far from the Outram bridge. Not a bad area wandering up the river, even a copse of birch around the corner that is also quite photogenic in autumn.

One of the numerous species of endemic New Zealand copper butterflies, visiting our garden. Although this one is perching on a manuka cultivar, they are particularly fond of Muehlenbeckia species.

Manuka Pool is a superb example of Federal Art Deco architecture in the Canberra suburb of Griffith, which incorporates the historic Manuka precinct. We don't have much history in Canberra but what we have is usually from my favourite 1920s and 1930s era. Simple lines and elegant details encapsulate the style. The architect here was E.H. Henderson who was also responsible for renovations to and extension of Government House, Yarralumla, and the design of Ainslie Primary School and the Drill Hall, Acton. A great discussion of the style can be found at Canberra House's webpage and I am presuming this is the same faithful documentarian who posts on flickr here.
