Manuka honey has been used by Maori indigenous populations for centuries, Its properties associated with health promotion, particularly the reinforcement of defenses and combating infections, allowed it to be recognized as one of the purest alternatives to help maintain health and well-being, however, despite being the general knowledge that has several health benefits, many people are unaware of the reason why it is considered a superfood.

mānuka flowers´ pollen and honey contain powerful insecticides and anti-bacterial agents that can help fight intestinal worms and bacterial infections.

Corpezzolo Honig

Vergesst Manuka-Honig.

Corpezzolo honey

Forget Manuka honey. Corbezzolo honey is the most famous and rarest honey in Sardinia and therefore not exactly a bargain. Although rare and sought after and valued all over the world, it is only half as expensive as its counterpart from New Zealand and does not have to be flown all over the world.: Corbezzolo honey is a very rare honey because the bees can only collect it in years with summer rain and mild winters.

Zosterops lateralis (wax-eye, white-eye, silver-eye, tauhou) perched in a Leptospermum scoparium (mānuka, tea tree) at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, New Zealand.

I had been hoping to get a better image as I find the colour combination very appealing. However as they seem only interested in this tree as a source of insects rather than nectar, it is uncommon enough to even find one in it, much less get a decent photo.

As they recently obliterated two patches of natives which included this splendid tree (also tree fuscias, the most thriving kaka beak I have seen, and a nice hebe) I guess this will not be happening.

The power of Manuka honey lies in its unique chemical composition. It contains high levels of methylglyoxal (MGO), an organic compound with powerful antibacterial properties. This active ingredient is absent (or barely present) in other types of honey.

I hope I typed that out correctly 😂

Research has shown that manuka honey has more antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties than regular honey. The antibacterial properties of manuka honey make it helpful in treating wounds, burns, coughs, and colds. Manuka honey has a bitter flavor and a strong smell, while regular honey is sweet.

The theme for tomorows Macro Mondays is Bread and Topping.

The Topping on my Bread is Butter and Manuka Honey....

Honey is known for its therapeutic properties from ancient civilizations. Recently, the mechanism of action of Manuka honey in wound healing, epithelial regeneration, and ulcer treatments has been revealed. ..........

I'm not long back from a lovely (if windy) couple of days at our country hut. While we were there we paid a visit to what we call "The Broken Leg Place" on the banks of the Clutha River. It's a place I always visit with a little trepidation as it was here I slipped down a grassy bank and broke my ankle almost two years ago -naturally I was very careful walking down "the bank" :-)

Happy New Year everyone! Hope 2010 brings you peace and happiness.

Another panorama from last weeks mission out to O'neills Bay. I name this image Manuka, because of the distinctive Manuka Tree to the left, and the bush that was behind me.

Liquid gold, aka Manuka honey is produced in New Zealand by bees that pollinate these native Manuka bushes! You can also see the fading Zodiacal light in the center of this image, check out the timelapse from here over on my Instagram account!

Manuka - at least that's what I am guessing

June started really bad this morning as I was only able to upload this picture using the old uploader in my browser.

Uploads from Germany, even from desktop PCs seem to be a problem today - read more here.

L'hiver perdure encore en Nouvelle Zelande et les plants de Manuka sont deja en fleurs, a l'image de celui-ci aux fleurs rosees trouve dans une jardiniere d'un parking d'un centre commercial a Manukau.

Otari Native Plant Museum is an out door nursery where many native plants can be viewed. Leptospermum is the well known Tea tree plant. It is also known as Manuka from the flowers of which bees collect and form honey that has medicinal properties is obtained.

I'm back. Computer install wasn't bad at all (one hour with hiccups), but there are a few (129) software glitches that I'll figure out soon (within seven years). Anybody know how to make a font bold in Windows 11 as the default? Download a font?) Back to "business."

For years, I have passed this particular bush, and have often paused wondering how to photograph this spiny, tightly packed bush to get the quarter-inch flowers. Last week, I just bit the bullet and shot. Take what you can.

The flowers are, at least in shape and size, are like the Chamelauclium I've been showing you this past week.

Leptospermum scoparium, commonly called mānuka, manuka, manuka myrtle, New Zealand teatree, broom tea-tree, or just tea tree, is a species of flowering plant in the myrtle family Myrtaceae, native to south-east Australia and New Zealand (including the Chatham Islands).

Manuka is a three-year-old female who was rescued last fall from Elkford, B.C., where she had become a nuisance bear.

The Calgary Zoo was able to take her in and save her from being destroyed.

At a Macro Workshop at Ruapehu I was hoping to photograph a North Island Whio and Tomtit. The one free day was very wet so didn't mange it but did get some wing action from a Manuka beetle.
