i bought this royal mercury from an old polish man, wieslaw, ny eve walking down manhattan avenue following a late afternoon repast of white kielbasa, pickle soup & hefeweizen with my friend, cat.

wieslaw ws selling a wide array of things on the street for a homeless charity. he wore a plastic badge he made a point to show people when they thought his prices were too high.

cat asked about a typing instruction book the guy sd he wanted to sell with the typewriter. & he quoted a higher price than i'd pay for this machine. tho not a completely unfair price.

he had other customers to serve & i had to figure out where the carriage lock was b.c the carriage wsnt moving. though the action seemed fine. while futzing with the machine i heard the salesman speaking french to a couple he ws selling some kitchenware. clink clink a bientot.

i found the carriage lock & tested the action some more. nice little bellsound. thwackthwackthwack. the keys kick back just right. the case is there. well well. a viable machine. meanwhile cat is looking at the junior high typing manual and her fingers are twitching to draw all thru it.

wieslaw makes his way back to me and i make him an offer for the machine.

-that is a very good question.

we talked a moment about typewriters and he started reminiscing about when people used them. i told him i have more than a dozen and use them all the time. he ws talking bat durability, design & the past.

i mentioned a song i'd been listening to earlier in the day 'ballade des dames du temps jades' sung by georges brassens based on a francois villon poem from 1461.

wieslaw's eyes lit up and we sang the refrain 'mais ou sont les neiges d'antan' [where are the snows of yesteryear].

wieslaw: we are typewriter soulmates. do you know hermes?

-yes, i have a couple.

wieslaw: hermes are the best.

he went off to discuss my offer with his partner. after a little bit he came back with his partner's approval on my offer. a significant reduction yet fair. and the book for cat.

the president of the charity ws the partner in question and wieslaw introduced him to me as he passed by. the president ws a tall middleaged man in wireframe glasses. he sd it was his typewriter. i told him it would be used & taken care of properly.

handed some bread over to wieslaw. and we talked about typewriters some more now that the amnt of customers had decreased. his attempts to stump me were well deflected & he liked that. he ws pretty knowledgeable abt typewriters so it ws a good type of conversation to have. most people dont have that conversation.

wieslaw again proclaimed our soulmatedom. i was happy to meet a man who loves typewriters. & he ws happy to meet a younger person who knows what they are & how they work.

we wished each other happy new year and he sd i shld come back by. maybe i'll take my groma gromina by to show him. what's your favorite east german typewriter?

I modded my Yashica Electro GT to be used in full manual mode by adding shutter speed control. Actually it is nothing more than a handful of resistors crammed under a dial switch. Beta stage means numbers written on paper disc; resistors easily spottable. Once i get the results from the test film, i may replace those resistors with smd ones for more prettyness. Or i just smudge more hotglue around them. Anyway, the software scope in my pc shows pretty nice results, so I just inserted the first roll to test it. My Lunasix is already giggeling all the day after the long depression it had over the advent of digital photography. Boy am I happy this seems to work!

This is an awesome "Monster Manual" for the role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons that was published in 1979. Although I am a stranger to the 20-sided die, I had a good time looking through this.

This is basically a hardbound encylopedia of the various monsters that you might encounter while playing a game of D&D, including their pictures, a short bio, and some stats. In addition to unicorns and vampires, this book has some really out-there stuff like sea-lions (a sea creature with a lion's head - check out the picture of a sea-lion biting a shark!), thought-eaters (scary!), and mind flayers (a good name for a metal band).

This book is in good vintage condition with no rips, tears, or discoloration. There is a small amount of shelf wear on the cover.

An old man works at Amber Fort

Jaipur - July, 2008

A random shot when I attended my best friend wedding ceremony.

Chassis No. 365GT13989

Specs: 4,390 cc V12 alloy block and cylinder head, single overhead camshafts per bank, triple Weber 40 DF carburetors, twin- ignition, rated at 320 bhp @ 6,600 rpm, five-speed manual gearbox, front and rear independent suspension, coil springs, Koni shock absorbers, sway bars, hydro-pneumatic self-leveling system at rear, four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, wheelbase: 104.3”

History: Throughout the 1960s, the growing popularity of sports grand touring cars had forced Ferrari to move away from selling limited edition, thinly disguised competition cars for road use. Always brilliant at selecting the right man for the job, he utilized the unrivalled skills of designer Pinin Farina for nearly all his coachwork, and using less radical engines, his cars became a lot more sophisticated and easier to drive. This was particularly true of the 2+2s, the cars that fulfilled the needs of the older audience, offering the amenities of a luxury car with space for family and luggage, while keeping the performance of a serious sports car.

As per normal practice for a new model, the 365 GT 2+2 was launched at the Paris Salon of 1967. Based on the earlier excellent 330 GTC chassis but lengthened by nearly nine inches, this was a big car by Ferrari standards. Although an entirely new design, styling cues were evident from earlier models like the 500 Superfast, 330 GTC, and in particular a 330 Speciale made for Princess Lillian of Belgium.

There were several ‘firsts’ for Ferrari incorporated as standard into the grand-tourer, notably; independent rear suspension, a hydro-pneumatic self-leveling system at the rear, power-assisted steering, power windows, air conditioning, and the engine and drivetrain were mounted on rubber bushes to insulate the car’s occupants from noise and vibration.

The 4.4 liter V12 was a bored-out version of the 330 GT 2+2 which in standard form propelled the car from 0-60 mph in seven seconds and to a potential top speed of 150 mph. The 365 GT 2+2 was a superlative grand-tourer and one of the most successful commercial successes for Ferrari with 800 cars produced over its four year build life. It is revealing that the four-seat models were by far Ferrari’s best selling cars throughout the 1960s, and at the end of the decade, the only Ferrari model sold in America due to the new U.S. emissions and safety laws. Road and Track famously dubbed the car The Queen Mother of Ferraris and this name has stuck through the years.

365GT13989: Having been acquired from the prestigious Blackhawk Collection, this fine example has been cared for by its most recent owner for 14 years. The quality and finish of the Rosso exterior paint is excellent and compliments the patina of the interior leather and detail and finish of wood dashboard and trim. The engine and engine bay have recently been refreshed at a cost of over $20,000. The odometer reads just 14,930 miles, which is believed to be accurate. The beautiful 365 GT needs nothing other than a new owner to continue the Italian love affair.

Protect Your Pool With Pool Covers, Reap Benefits

Aside from investing in safety, getting a pool cover for your pool, as a matter of fact, saves you money. A pool cover can save you up to 70 % on operating costs by reducing your swimming pool’s need for extra heating equipment, make-up water, water treatment chemicals, and cleaning and maintenance costs.

For indoor pools, fewer corrosive sanitation chemicals released into the air because of suppressed evaporation results to reduced moisture damage and acidic corrosion on your building structure. This also includes fixtures such as metal hinges, door and window frames, others, and speakers.

You are not only saved from large energy bills, by blocking evaporation, you also save on make-up water by as much as 50 %, and chemicals for treating water by as much as 60 %. Loss of volatile chemicals like chlorine due to evaporation is also greatly reduced. Studies show that around 5,000 gallons of water is conserved, as well as chemicals used to treat it annually if swimming pool owners will just use pool covers.

With the use of a pool cover, heat loss is reduced by blocking evaporation and locking the heat in. Naturally, there will be a significant reduction in your swimming pool heating costs as your water thermostat may cut the heat supply from the boiler during the use of the pool cover. Locking more of the heat in with your pool cover somehow extends your swimming season. Pittsburgh swimming pool cleaning is easier with a pol cover.

According to studies, swimming pools not protected by a pool cover can lose as much as 30 % of their heat each day and more than 10,000 liters of water, including chemicals used to treat the water, all because of the natural process of evaporation.

Pool covers keep off leaves, debris and dirt out of your swimming pool water. With a pool cover over your swimming pool, the heat of the pool water is kept well inside and with the pool cover also keeping the dirt out, your pool equipment lasts longer because it actually works less.

A pool cover over your swimming pool also significantly reduces the amount of energy required to ventilate the pool room for indoor pools. There will be little need for ventilation and exhaust fans, allowing you to save more on air-heating cost.

Pool covers are becoming increasingly popular among commercial pool owners as well as home pool owners. A pool cover is one must-have swimming pool product that any pool owner should possess.

Indoor and outdoor pool owners will benefit from a pool cover. The key is simply to use a pool cover that best suits your swimming pool and your swimming needs.

Having a pool cover over your unattended swimming pool is highly effective to prevent accidents like these from happening. There is still no substitute from proper supervision, a pool cover may somehow do this on your behalf when you are not around. Pool covers can save your life, and the life of the people you care about.
