The 45-200 Panasonic lens has wonderful image quality, but even with the smallest focus box, it will not focus reliably in situations like this with busy backgrounds. Decided to just set the camera to manual focus and used the VF2 electronic viewfinder to manually focus. It was a piece of cake and I am extremely happy with these jpg images. I'm finding I much prefer the jpgs from this camera - and post processing is practically non-existent.
My wife decided on a tour through southeastern Idaho and northern Utah today. It was a long trip, because I naturally had to stop at just about every turn, because of how beautiful it was today.
I also focused on shooting as manually as I could. My camera does not allow me to shut the light metering off, or I would have done that as well. Aside from that all the photo marked "Manual Focus & SOOC" were as much as could be achieved.
To see why I struck out to do this photo as manual as possible, please visit PhotoCapM and read Back to Manual Mode. There is also film coming from my old Pentax K-1000 in the very near future.

I have a few old fully manual lenses - this one is on loan from my Dad. It's a 200mm macro, and I might not give it back! Absolutely fantastic for shooting small cacti behind a grate.

Finally got a chance to shoot with my new, to me, 24mm ƒ2.8 NC. I gave it a few tortuous shots to see how it handled flare and ghosting. I was fairly impressed and it's pretty sharp wide open.

not a good combination…
playing with my friend’s new lensbaby + 10x macro attachment with f/4 aperture ring.
things i discovered:
1) i can’t manual focus to save my life
2) no metering function when attached to a nikon d50 (gotta guess & experiment)
3) without attachments, the focal length is about 50mm
4) with the 10x macro attachment, minimum focus distance equals almost touching
5) i couldn’t figure out if it’s possible to move the “sweet spot” around the composition. seems to remain pretty dead center
6) needed the cory lum pen light illumination technique for this composition

One of the highlights of my trip to Japan was realising my dream of photographing the Snow Monkeys of Jigokundani (near Nagano) & the whole experience left me thinking about how important it is we be thankful for evolution & that we should celebrate it with more attention then we give our imaginary gods.
Taken with Sony A7RII & the legendary vintage Tamron Adaptall 180mm f/2.5 lens;. It was my first time travelling with the Sony & i'm loving how effective it is with older manual focus/aperture lenses.
Please feel free to this post or individual images & even if you feel so inspired. I think it's important everyone take some time out to see ourselves in another creatures eyes & I'd personally love it if more people got to view my work.

Some years back when I was around 23 years old I purchased a Polaroid camera and took a photo of my cat on the lawn. The photo came out of the front of the camera and a picture of a blurry grey blob on a background of green slowly appeared. I was charmed by the result. Soon after I purchased an SLR camera and darkroom equipment. I then proceeded to try and make sharp detailed prints. I have started to think what is the point of this…. lightbox is tops for B&W
