Artist's concept illustrates the modular Nova concept. From 1960 to 1962, the Marshall Space Flight Center considered the Nova launch vehicle as a means to achieve a manned lunar landing with a direct flight to the moon. Various configurations of the vehicle were examined. The last configuration was a five-stage vehicle using eight F-1 engines in the first stage. Although the program was canceled after NASA planners selected the lunar orbit rendezvous mode, the proposed F-1 engine would eventually be used in the Apollo Program to propel the first stage of the Saturn V launch vehicle.
Note the extended landing gear sticking out from the base of the lunar lander “stage”.
In 1969, Apollo 12 landed about 600 feet from Surveyor 3 robotic probe that had landed on the moon in 1967 during pre-Apollo recognition. Here, Alan Bean and Pete Conrad inspect the Surveyor. INFO: From "In the stream of stars", "The Soviet/American Space Art book" (New York) 1990

The Apollo 11 Astronauts: ABOVE LEFT: The portrait of the three Apollo 11 astronauts, commissioned to celebrate the lunar landing in 1969 is perhaps Tobey's most recognizable group portrait, as millions of reproductions were sold across the USA. Pictured left to right are pilot Edwin Aldrin, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, & Commander Neil Armstrong.
This color lithographic print titled "Astronauts of Apollo 11 - First on the Moon 1969" after the painting by Alton S. Tobey, published in 1969 by the Donald Art Company. The print depicting the three astronauts in their white spacesuits before a scene of the earth and moon.

“The Apollo 17 Lunar Module (LM) "Challenger" ascent stage leaves the Taurus-Littrow landing site as it makes its spectacular liftoff from the lunar surface, as seen in this reproduction taken from a color television transmission made by the color RCA TV camera mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). The LRV-mounted TV camera, remotely controlled from the Mission Control Center (MCC) in Houston, made it possible for people on Earth to watch the fantastic event. The LM liftoff was at 188:01:36 ground elapsed time, 4:54:36 p.m. (CST), Thursday, Dec. 14, 1972. The LM ascent stage, with astronauts Eugene A. Cernan and Harrison H. Schmitt aboard, returned from the lunar surface to rejoin the Command and Service Modules (CSM) orbiting the moon. Astronaut Ronald E. Evans remained with the CSM in lunar orbit while Cernan and Schmitt explored the moon. The LM descent stage is used as a launching platform and remains behind on the moon. Here, the two stages have completely separated and the ascent stage is headed skyward.”

“Apollo Landing Site 3
This sample plastic relief map depicts a portion of the precise lunar topographic model prepared for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This model is an integral part of a Lunar Module Simulator. The simulator provides crew training and orientation for Apollo Astronauts for scheduled lunar landings and is installed at the John F. Kennedy Space Center, Cape Kennedy Florida. The “lunar surface was prepared by the U.S. Army Topographic Command from Orbiter IV and V photography provided by NASA. The completed model contains over 500,000 craters, measures 22 feet by 14 feet, and weighs approximately 600 pounds.”

I had before me a moon rocket "This is the last". That was the reality. Technicians and engineers working on the pad 39a, in the main tower and we see the Mobile Service Structure, that just released the Saturn 5 rocket. Sounds of the engines crawler carrier "piston engines sound" that we can hear very well. There are a lot activities. It was a great moment that strikes the imagination. Dan Beaumont. Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr., Apollo 14 Commander, shades his eyes from the sun during the Apollo 14 Extravehicular Activity (EVA) on the moon. This photograph was taken by Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, Lunar Module Pilot, through the window of the Lunar Module.
And/or, much better, per the ALSJ:
Alan Shepard, Apollo 14 Commander, shades his eyes from the sun during the first Extravehicular Activity on the moon, 5 February 1971. Ed Mitchell took this photo of Al out the right-hand, LMP window. Al is shading his eyes, probably looking up toward Cone Crater. Note the red stripe on the top of Al's helmet. This and similar stripes on his arms and legs help distinguish him from Ed, who has no stripes. This photo provides good views of Al's cuff checklist, his Omega Speedmaster watch, and the strap-on pocket on his left thigh.

“Wonders of the Universe:
Body Alterations
A startling proposal to adapt the human body to conditions in space has been suggested recently by Dr. N. S. KIine and Dr. M. E. Clynes at the space-flight symposium of the School of Aviation Medicine. These doctors believe that we have now reached a point where the use of drugs and electrical and mechanical stimuluses may provide at least a part solution to the acute problems of long-range space flight.
These doctors propose to create what they call “Cyborgs.” These men will have devices deliberately incorporated in them to…[article is cut off at this point]”

Although I don’t see the relation/connection between this striking image and the content of the article, I suppose these two nimble moonwalkers could conceivably be somehow “augmented”.
Regardless, is this not TOTALLY and INSANELY COOL?!?!?! I think it is. I’ll spare you my usual inane observations & musings…you can come up with your own.
Not surprisingly, it’s by John Gorsuch. At the risk of being repetitive, the man was unbelievably prolific & supremely talented, maybe even gifted.
Mind you, this is from 1960…Nineteen Hundred and Sixty!
Wow, just WOW.
Enjoy.
As an aside, this might be the first & only cursive version of Mr. Gorsuch’s signature I’ve seen.
The two moon-exploring Apollo 17 crewmen are seen walking beside a large boulder during the third extravehicular activity (EVA) at the Taurus-Littrow landing site. They are scientist-astronaut Harrison H. Schmitt (in front), lunar module pilot; and astronaut Eugene A. Cernan, commander. This black and white reproduction was taken from a color television transmission made by the color RCA TV camera mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle. Astronaut Ronald E. Evans, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules in lunar orbit.
