Looking northward, a close-up of the Station B2 boulder, referred to as ‘Big Rock” in the Apollo 14 Preliminary Science Report. The upper surface is unusually flat and may represent a fracture surface. The rock is 0.6 meters high and about 1.5 meters long. The CDR (Commander) decal/label is legible on Shepard's Hasselblad camera & his tongs are visible under his hoses. Note the dirt on his boots and knees. Shepard and Mitchell have come up a small rise and, in the distance beyond the boulder, a large crater can be seen.
Note that the strap on Shepard's right boot has come undone. During the technical debrief, he was asked about this photo and replied "I didn't notice it until I saw the picture myself.", to which Mitchell added "I noticed it something during the EVA....I guess I didn't mention it and he didn't have any trouble with it." The EVA boot is actually an overshoe and not an integral part of the pressure suit.

A frame from Jim Irwin's panoramic photography sequence taken from a position north of the LM. The dramatic tilt of the spacecraft is quite evident.

The right front tire of an engineering model/flight test article LRV, offering an excellent view of the ingenious wheel/tread design. Note the transparency through the mesh 'weave'.
The “FENDERS NON FLT.” decal and what might be “NON(?)-OPERATIONAL HARDWARE” tags would support this being an engineering model. I’d otherwise expect the usual “REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT” tags. Right?

“APOLLO TEAM MEMBER
PEGGY HOPKINS
THAT’S ONE SMALL STEP FOR A MAN
ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND
JULY 20, 1969”
I don’t know why I think this, especially since I can’t find anything to support it, but I think Ms. Hopkins was secretary to at least one of the Apollo Astronauts. Specifically, Jim McDivitt.

“A 138-foot-tall Saturn V first stage, built at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans and transported to KSC by barge, is lifted from its ground transporter in the transfer aisle of the 525-foot-high Vehicle Assembly Building here from where it is placed in a high bay to await stacking of the other stages and spacecraft. The stage will be used on Apollo 13, scheduled to be the third moon-landing mission.”
The truncated appearance of the F-1 engines are due to the thrust chamber nozzle extensions not yet being attached...along with the engine fairings/fins being absent as well.
A really striking photograph.

"First on the Moon" is the story of Apollo 11 and the personal experiences of the three astronauts who put man on the moon. The voyage begins with President Kennedy's pronouncement on May 25, 1961, that the United States would put man on the moon before the decade was out, and continues through the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs.

This photo was taken from the north of the LM. Buzz has taken the camera out there to take a pan, as per checklist. This is an excellent picture of the flag, the TV cable, and, in the background, some boulders on the local ridge. Taken toward the southwest.
