Dedicated in June 1992, these figures were done by sculptor
George Segal, and are bronze, covered in white lacquer; the benches for the sitting figures are steel, covered in black paint.
They are located in Christopher Park, a short distance from the famous Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, where the famous riots took place in 1969.

I was walking down the street, noticing the two women across the street who were rather dressed up for the time of day. As I waited across the street for the walk signal, I observed a man sitting on his belongings, holding a sign with a cup in front of him. The cup was nearly struck by a passing pedestrian, no one in the frame is even paying him any attention, except the advertisement for a Dr. Phil episode on the bust stop. It was illustrative for me that sometimes, inanimate objects treat those in poverty better than the surrounding humanity.
