Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 with Manfrotto 498RC2
I need a tripod ridiculously bad. This is the one I chose. I needed something that would hold my camera setup and also be light weight.

My old heavy duty ball & socket head. All-metal construction, it's solid as a rock but weighs almost half as much as the 685B tripod in total. This thing is primative. Very well engineered but the materials technology is ten years out of date. It will support a large heavy view camera, a medium format camera or a fully-laden 35mm SLR with large telephoto or zoom attached. State-of-the-art 35mm SLRs are much lighter than their 20th century predecessors however, and really don't need a head built as heavily as this one.
If you know me good
See it now, the blade is deep
You could loathe the lie
Seen in all that now
You went south on the train
She wore plastic boots for rain
And you'd crawl along if you know that your Juliet is calling
Who will I be when I'm with you again?
Silver jet in the sky, you are the pain
Got a song, got to sing for life
If you know me good
See it now, the blade is deep
If you don't eat yourself
You will explode instead
'Cause I never loved you so
When I know you don't love me
You wore the lies till their worn
Get wicked, get it done
Who will I be when I'm with you again?
Silver jet in the sky, you are the pain
Got a song, got to sing for life

I decided to go with the RC2 quick attachment adapter (Manfrotto 323) from the Manfrotto 488RC2 ballhead and fit it to the Cullmann 40190 ballhead.
An DIY adapter with male 3/8"-16 UNC threads on each side was needed to fit the two parts together.
I tried making the middle piece of the threaded adapter as small as possible as the force the ballhead can handle decrease with when the distance between the ball and the camera increase.

The mini ball head installed on my modest monopod. For some reason, people find this quite intimidating. On a recent trip to Chicago I was eyed with great suspicion with folks clearly wondering what this was. Maybe it was my 6'1"? Third Eye? It's just a black monopod folks. The rubber topper was a nice bonus that I got with the monopod It keeps the 1/4-20 screw covered and makes the monopod double as a nice walking stick.
More info here:
The reassembled collar in position. Make sure to align the locking lever in the correct direction.
Note the white chair leg replacement tips and reflective tape above the upper collar, these improve visibility and safety for night work.
Here's the top of the monopod. Under this threaded cover is the screw. The outside part of the screw is spring-loaded. Push it down and it exposes a narrower screw that fits the tripod mount on your camera. The outer spring-loaded screw is for attaching a head to the monopod.
I have Manfrotto's 234RC quick-release tilt head on-order.
