I managed to sneak up onto another young Nursery Web spider yesterday, not an easy thing to do, normally they scurry off before I get anywhere near but this little one stayed put long enough to get a few shots.

I used MP-E 65mm with 2X converter and defused flash

I only managed to get out once for photography in December 2021 and that was on the 14th, two days after a Great Northern Diver had been reported at Farmoor Reservoir, Oxfordshire.

I located the Diver very quickly and spent the first 45 minutes observing it on my own. This Great Northern Diver is a star bird for Farmoor.

The Common Loon or Great Northern Diver is a large member of the loon, or diver, family of birds.

This Great Northern Diver was reported as a Juvenile.

I managed three visits to the Mjällådalen nature reserve during our July trip to my mother-in-law in Härnösand, Sweden.

As on the previous two, my son joined me and proved an invaluable photography assistant and beetle herder.

My favourite find on this visit - and possibly of the entire trip - was this red morph of the green-socks peacock beetle (Elaphrus riparius). That's right, this is the very same species as this one: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53022438739/in/album-721...

This is the smallest peacock beetle in Sweden at 5-7 mm (.24") and quite variable in colour although this hue has to be considered quite extreme.

As before, Daniel turned out to be invaluable and we came up with a process where he put his hands down on the sand with his thumbs ands index fingers formed a diamond shape around the beetle so it couldn't run away and I then stuck the camera down close over it and took a shot whenever it took a little break in running around like it was on crack.

hehe, i managed to survive one more week smilin' despite all the mess around here...

and going for another one!

hope you all have a nice week, guys!! =)

Managed to get a nice sequence of shots of this Kingfisher coming out of the water!

Managed some infrared yesterday, looks like I need to check the date on my camera though.

Even though I feel like I've been seeing these more frequently lately, I'm continually staggered by the sheer size of these big bastards. I seem to recall this one being a good ways off of the walking trail underneath Pulpit Rock and it still managed to all but fill up the viewfinder of my R7.

Managed to put the birds aside for a day to look for Autumn colors. We did some searching in Western Iowa and found this beautiful spot. What a wonderful time of the year.

I managed to acclimate this Swallowtail Butterfly to me when it was a caterpillar, and it remembered me after its metamorphosis. It's willingness to let me get close, coupled with some cool temperatures, allowed me to take a lot of photos.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI, Sharpen AI, and Clarity in that order.

I backpacked to Cathedral Lake near Aspen, CO. I had two objectives: climb Cathedral Peak (featured at center) and photograph sunrise from there, and photograph the Perseid Meteor Shower. Not easy to combine a night photography goal, climbing a mountain, and photographing sunrise in one day, but I managed to pull it off. I'll sleep when I'm dead. :-)

Despite the haze in the night sky from the California fires, this was the best Perseid shower I can remember shooting. There were huge streaks of light on a consistent basis. I was very pleased and just loved laying on my back next to the lake to watch the meteors rain down.

It was a fabulous night of star-gazing and meteor watching! It was VERY dark, so I processed it darkly.

Process:

Out of 413 exposures I shot over the course of several hours during the Perseid Meteor shower, I combined multiple (19) exposures to bring forward all of the meteors I was able to capture. I then combined this with my foreground shot which was exposed for much longer (but not as long as I wanted - I accidentally left my intervalometer at home and forgot to download the PlayMemories app on my phone, so I hand-held the button down, LOL).

Details:

Sony A7R2; Sony 12-24 f/4. 12mm, 30s, ISO 10,000 - 413 shots. Foreground - 12mm, 254s, ISO 3200

Finally managed to get this shot, had been planning it since November.

This was shot during the past full moon and had to scout the place the evening before. When I was hiking to the mountaintop I crossed paths with a rattlesnake, thanks to it's advice I took my distance and the shoot went all right.

Picture is a stack of 18 shots at 300mm, making it a huge file.

-----------

I managed this shot a couple of nights ago whilst on a short trip to Bournemouth. I used my f@4 . 70-200 on the long end, a lens that never fails to deliver.

Photographing piers is a bit of a novelty to me,as we don't have these great structures in Cornwall.

Managed to get up to London on Friday night to see A Christmas Carol with Jim Broadbent, we stayed over and had a quick walk around Shoreditch in the sunshine on Saturday before being pestered to return home to watch the Strictly Final by KP. Her favourites Kelly and Kevin didn't win but were amazing ...

Hard to believe that it was so warm in December ...

managed to catch up with 2 Wood Sandpiper's in poor grey misty conditions this morning. Should have waited untill afternoon when the sun came out. Passage migrants who stop off to feed after their long flight. Usually get a few every year but not that common

I managed to see a lot of moose (or Elk as they're known in Europe). Wow, these creatures can handle cold. I took this one when my car said it was 1°F (about - 19°C). Talk about bad ass with its own mini snow drifts and icicles. They seem to be living on the twigs of leafless Willow trees right now. It seems they work their way down over the winter, starting with the previous years growth of shoots, then coming back to comp down even further.

Just managed to get home before the heavens opened up.

Managed to capture a Perseid meteor from Pilling in Lancashire. The conditions were not favorable for seeing with the big moon & hazy sky, but I was glad to at least capture one on camera.

...we managed to catch a bit of the sun before it was too late. Lucille isn't entirely thrilled with the flares on her face! :D Rebecca (glamourfae) was in Denver...fun dinner with her!

After seeing Laura's (plastic_fashion) gorgeous GR today, I was in the mood to photograph Lucille! Lucille is wearing a darling dress from Sugar Baby Love. Thanks so much! We love this dress set!

Sony A9II +90mm f2.8 @ 1/320 f14 iso 320 + Godox TTL fill flash, hand held auto focus, one image @ 30 cm distance.

No need for tripod with this set up. 10 stops of image stabilisation lens 5 and camera 5, wasp kept moving other wise I could have shot at 1/100 shutter speed hand held- no wind. Auto focus on this camera is superior to manual focus despite all the experts saying use manual focus for single shot macro photography

Good morning dear Flickr-friends of paydays,

this early evening I got a lot of gold while my paddling tour on my SUP in the bay of Bregenz/ Austria. There are these days, days of luck...!

You never thought about and than, you get it back "en masse"! You are enchanted from the first moment and you feel helpless like a little poodle on a SUP board, talking silly stuff to yourself like "Shit, I think I got it. Im a gold poodle".

It's like sitting in your car and your navigation system says: You've reached your destination Bro (Only you have the Bro-Version;) You are paralyzed and confused but you will find a way to manage all the luck...;)

What am I talking about. Thanks for the golden moment. Wow, I had so many lucky moments in the last years. I have to say thank you. And by the way, luck can come over night and also in Black & White. I got it!

This is a good transfer to my black and white side, you can visit if you want to...

Trevi Fountain, Rome, Italy

The fountain is located at the intersection of three streets, marking the point, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to Rome.

Roman technicians located a source of pure water just 22 km from the city (scene depicted on the current facade of the source). This Virgo Water ran through the shortest aqueduct in Rome directly to the Baths of Agrippa and was used for over four hundred years.

The Roman custom of building a beautiful and beautiful fountain at the end of the aqueducts that brought water to the city was revived in the fifteenth century, with the Renaissance.

I managed to travel around the South of Tehran by taking Metro but unfortunately during Friday and holidays, the city seems to be like a ghost town. Traffic is like non-existence. And shops are mostly closed.

Luckily I found this beautiful wall mural at Saadi Road, a walking distance to Tehran Bazar.

Location : Saadi Road - Tehran, Iran

Whilst walking through the ravine part of Pucks Glen is definitely a highlight, walking along the track at the top of the glen also has its highlights.

Life manages somehow. Fonts Point, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, CA. Canon 16-35mm f/4 L lens.

Visited a new location, another reservoir and surrounding woodlands. I managed to find a few fantastic specimens before being chased back to my car by countless mosquitoes.

I didn't see as much today at the swamp, but I managed to find another new species. Either a Pacific Forktail male found in northern California and Oregon only, or a Green-eyed Forktail found at the swamp, take your pick. Very difficult to tell the difference since the male of the former and the immature of the latter are darn near identical.

There were hundreds of people at the swamp and reserve today, along with hundreds of dogs and perhaps a hundred children under the age of 6. Imagine if the weather had been good and not overcast. Both from a nature and people standpoint, this was not the norm.

Anyway, Ischnura cervula, the Pacific forktail, is a species of narrow-winged damselfly in the family Coenagrionidae. It is found in Central America and western North America. This one was probably four or five days old. This may be a very interesting time for me and the dragons and damsels since, in previous years, I didn't get started until most were adults, and some already on their last ... wings.

Tomorrow, I may post the Pied-billed grebe with a crawdad going down the hatch or a Great Blue Heron. Or maybe, it's time to bring out wildflowers that I've finally identified.

Finally managed to get into this part of the red zone to get a few shots of the Catholic cathedral. This damage was done mainly in the 6.3 quake on Feb 22nd... more damage has apparently occured in the latest 6.3 as well but this was shot a few days before that happened.

The two front towers have collapsed and gone and that front wall on the left is held up by a bit of kiwi inginuity - shipping containers and hay bales.

To the right of the shot out of frame there is a carpark full of blocks and stone from the collapsed cathedral each layed out seperately and numbered - there being saved to possibly rebuild in the exact way once the quakes finally stop.... if they ever do... (they are doing the same to the Anglican cathedral in Christchurch's Center

The latest Quake has damaged it a lot more and it might now be never rebuilt, on this ground anyway....

Just as an interesting fact. The still standing tower at the back had a statue of the virgin mary facing inwards in the front window, during the feb 22nd quake the statue turned an exact 180degrees to face outwards - looking through the window - without falling over or being damaged.

The road im standing on - Barbadoes St - has been identified as having a Fault Line directly underneath - previously unknown. There are now 3 Major active faults under Christchurch.....

Cheers for looking, ive got a few more of this from different angles ill post up

Managing to gaze into the open eyes of a snowy in daylight can be difficult, at best. Their sensitive retinas leave them squinting throughout most of the day… that is when they are not actually sleeping. But in the minutes before sunrise, when its rays lazily find their way above the horizon, the beaches and bays are eerily blue and the golden iris of the snowy glows with pupils as large as saucers. It takes luck! Luck finding a bird in a suitable place, luck having a cloudless sunrise, and luck finding an owl motionless enough to allow for a photograph in such low light. As luck would have it, we were -- quite lucky. It was a brief but memorable moment at twilight dawn, indeed. #SnowyOwls

Managed to get out today for a bit so had a little trip out not to far from home, so thought I would have a look around Lumsdale Falls brilliant spot just a bit busy in the afternoon especialy this time of year but still worth the vist. They are situated in the Lumsdale Valley, near Matlock.

As you make your way through the gorge you'll pass several historical mill ruins, waterwheels, three mill ponds and a series of waterfalls. And also plenty of free parking... Bonus

Gus' mate, Forbes, managed to salvage a few parts from another 5 Series he fell out of up on Quiraing Road and improve his own aquisition from Murchison's Garage. Mind he only got a mile or two up the road to Drumbuie before he stuffed it through some whin bushes at the side of the road. "Ice" he said as he explained to the local bobby without mentioning he almost managed to hit 100 mph on the short straight before the brow on the hill

Managed to grab a quick shot before if flitted off. never seem to stay still long. This little fella is exploring some mossy branches . Lovely little birds can be quite confiding so when one strikes A pose for the camera I grab it !!

Please take A look in Large !! press L

Thanks to everyone that takes the time and makes the effort to comment and fave my pics its very much appreciated

Managed to get out for a shortish walk this morning. Started off in great light, which then got worse and worse. But at least I got out!

Managed to catch glimpses of the lunar eclipse in occasional breaks in the cloud, unfortunately conditions were still a bit hazy so was hard to get a clear shot. This is just after the full eclipse.

I managed to make my way through the crowd of tourists who were busy taking selfies for this brief shot. Due to the number of people around me, I wasn't able to admire the scenery for even a minute.

There is a small villa which showed as a little white speck, just behind the nearest tree tops in this frame. A magnified shot of that architecture can be found right here.
