Managed to put the birds aside for a day to look for Autumn colors. We did some searching in Western Iowa and found this beautiful spot. What a wonderful time of the year.
I managed to acclimate this Swallowtail Butterfly to me when it was a caterpillar, and it remembered me after its metamorphosis. It's willingness to let me get close, coupled with some cool temperatures, allowed me to take a lot of photos.
Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI, Sharpen AI, and Clarity in that order.
Olympic Peninsula near Forks Washington. May 2025.
Olympus OM-10, Zuiko 50mm 1.8. Salvaged camera and lens. Cinestill 800, lab processed and printed (BMC)
I managed this shot a couple of nights ago whilst on a short trip to Bournemouth. I used my f@4 . 70-200 on the long end, a lens that never fails to deliver.
Photographing piers is a bit of a novelty to me,as we don't have these great structures in Cornwall.

and going for another one!
hope you all have a nice week, guys!! =)
National Trust Properties
Waddesdon Manor, Aylesbury, HP18 0LH, Buckinghamshire
Waddesdon Manor
Built between 1874 – 1889 in the Neo-renaissance style for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. Waddesdon Manor stayed within the family until 1957.
When the last owner died (James de Rothschild), it was passed over to the National Trust, the Manor and its contents and is now managed by the Rothschild Foundation.
Ferdinand de Rothschild wanted a beautiful building and had in mind a chateau familiar with those built in the Loire Valley. He chose the French architect Gabriel-Hippolyte Destailleur to do the work. Destailleur was already familiar with the type of work, as he had overseen many projects, including the Chateau de Mouchy. He also worked for another member of the De Rothschild family, namely Baron Albert de Rothschild on his Palais Rothschild in Vienna.
The wine cellars are interesting in that it contains the best of 15,000 bottles, some over 150 years old and come from the Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Mouton Rothschild estates. It is the largest collection in the world of Rothschild wines, it also has some very important labels created by artists such as Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol.
The works of art inside the house of the very best quality, artists such as, Gainsborough, Reynolds, Boucher, Cuyp, Van Dyck, Titan and many others. Sevres ceramics, Beauvais Tapestries, first quality English Silver, carpets, books the list unending.
the French Landscape Gardiner Elie Laine. Extensive levelling of the hill was carried out, the Gardens and parks were laid out and an attempt was made to grow full length trees using chloroform to decrease the shock of moving the trees and planting them, however there are many trees in the parks and gardens that were successfully planted. Trees such as Yews, cedar, redwoods and other conifers, chestnuts, limes and maples are all successfully well bedded in.
During the reign of James de Rothschild the gardens were not the most spectacular however from the 1990’s a more up to date, using computer software for many of the colour combinations and in the gardens are many lovely statues by such sculptors as, Italian Sculptors Giuliano Mozani and Filippo Parodi, French sculptor, Jean Raon, to name but a few.
In my opinion, a great House and Garden to visit, teas and a scone well worth the wait.
Finally there have been many films made there. Here are a few examples:
Never Say Never Again
Carry On “Don’t Lose Your Head”
Ladies in Lavender
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
In 2018 there were approx. 465,000 visitors to the Manor, and was the largest visitor attraction anywhere in all of the National Trust Properties.
Managed to capture this lovely little creature on Saturday morning at Reddish Vale Country Park..
Erithacus Rubecula
The UK's favourite bird - with its bright red breast it is familiar throughout the year and especially at Christmas!
Males and females look identical, and young birds have no red breast and are spotted with golden brown.
Robins sing nearly all year round and despite their cute appearance, they are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders. They will sing at night next to street lights.
having managed to pull myself out of bed with only 3 hours sleep, i drove to buttermere in the lke district uk. its a place i frequent but havent had a walk round it for a few months.sunrise wasnt anything special but there was some interesting driftwood laying around and the low water levels made the usual shot of the lone tree a bit unpleasant on my eye.
this old branch on the other hand stuck out like a sore thumb. i really like how its twists and the textures on it really appeal. it made an excellent foreground subject.
Managed to capture a Perseid meteor from Pilling in Lancashire. The conditions were not favorable for seeing with the big moon & hazy sky, but I was glad to at least capture one on camera.
I managed to persuade my grandson to come for a short walk after dinner but, he was quite alarmed when I asked two young ladies if they mind me taking a photo of their drinks.
I managed to see a lot of moose (or Elk as they're known in Europe). Wow, these creatures can handle cold. I took this one when my car said it was 1°F (about - 19°C). Talk about bad ass with its own mini snow drifts and icicles. They seem to be living on the twigs of leafless Willow trees right now. It seems they work their way down over the winter, starting with the previous years growth of shoots, then coming back to comp down even further.
...we managed to catch a bit of the sun before it was too late. Lucille isn't entirely thrilled with the flares on her face! :D Rebecca (glamourfae) was in Denver...fun dinner with her!
After seeing Laura's (plastic_fashion) gorgeous GR today, I was in the mood to photograph Lucille! Lucille is wearing a darling dress from Sugar Baby Love. Thanks so much! We love this dress set!
Just when got her prefect badge, lol!
Meh edits and all that jazz. I just needed a picture for the profile on her wikia... So here it is! <.<
Painting with light shot taken in the ruins of the old Lachlan Castle looking across Loch Fyne towards the Milky Way.
I managed to travel around the South of Tehran by taking Metro but unfortunately during Friday and holidays, the city seems to be like a ghost town. Traffic is like non-existence. And shops are mostly closed.
Luckily I found this beautiful wall mural at Saadi Road, a walking distance to Tehran Bazar.
Location : Saadi Road - Tehran, Iran
managed to catch up with 2 Wood Sandpiper's in poor grey misty conditions this morning. Should have waited untill afternoon when the sun came out. Passage migrants who stop off to feed after their long flight. Usually get a few every year but not that common
Managed to see a pair of Grey (English) Partridges this morning. Getting rather short supply now & on the endangered list now. I have been looking hard & was beginning to think I might not see them this year
Managing to gaze into the open eyes of a snowy in daylight can be difficult, at best. Their sensitive retinas leave them squinting throughout most of the day… that is when they are not actually sleeping. But in the minutes before sunrise, when its rays lazily find their way above the horizon, the beaches and bays are eerily blue and the golden iris of the snowy glows with pupils as large as saucers. It takes luck! Luck finding a bird in a suitable place, luck having a cloudless sunrise, and luck finding an owl motionless enough to allow for a photograph in such low light. As luck would have it, we were -- quite lucky. It was a brief but memorable moment at twilight dawn, indeed. #SnowyOwls
Managed to get out today for a bit so had a little trip out not to far from home, so thought I would have a look around Lumsdale Falls brilliant spot just a bit busy in the afternoon especialy this time of year but still worth the vist. They are situated in the Lumsdale Valley, near Matlock.
As you make your way through the gorge you'll pass several historical mill ruins, waterwheels, three mill ponds and a series of waterfalls. And also plenty of free parking... Bonus
The US Army Corps of Engineers built this earthen dam, visible at center. The building at right is a USACE visitor center that features the river's history before European contact, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the dam's purpose and functions, and an overview of remaining ecosystems -- very much transformed by human-drive water flows and that big body of cold water in the reservoir. You can see a cluster of wayside signs about Lewis and Clark at far left.
The Corps is a partner of the National Park Service here. The NPS managed the Lewis and Clark National Historical Trail that passes here, as well as the Missouri National Recreational River that includes one stretch upstream of the reservoir and a second stretch along a semi-natural stretch downstream.
I'm in Nebraska, looking across the river to South Dakota.

I manage a pic of this rare sighting of a Common Cuckoo at Snake Den State Park in Johnston, Rhode Island this morning before work.
In the small group my freind John and I was visiting with, was a Fleet Air Arm Pilot from the 1940's.
Laurie Allum flew a number of different aircraft during the war, we managed to get him in the cockpit of this Spitfire F Mk 1X and his son passed him his original flying helmet.
Laurie went into his cockpit checks immediately he hadn't forgot a thing, Paul the tour guide was looking in disbelief we were all chocking back tears.
I have to say this was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, totally out of the blue and one that went beyond my wildest dreams Wow.
I have Laurie's son Richard's email and will be sending these photographs in the very near future it made our day really special.
I managed to hit the shutter at just the right second this afternoon. Fyero had jumped up on the couch and was making her way to the window sill but hesitated for just a second before making the leap and I was in the perfect spot to snap this moment.
I've watch her follow this routine multiple times a day for years and have always wanted to get this shot but was never in position or the light was wrong, or... list the endless reasons why it never worked out here...
But today, well today was the day! So needless to say, I'm happy to have finally capture this moment!
Hope everyone has had a good day.

Managed to get Petrov up into the forest for a test flight with new firmware, just as the Sun was about to disappear below the ridgeline.
Day 16 of Pentax Forum's Daily in August 2017 Challenge.
I managed another sunrise outing with friend and fellow flickr photographer Paul Hollins to Merewether Beach and Burwood Beach NSW; Australia yesterday morning.
Conditions were wonderful - a really low tide exposed this nice collection of rocks and these were complimented nicely by some great color just prior to sunrise.
It's scenes like this that make you grateful for good vision and health that allow us to enjoy the magnificence of nature and the world around us!!
****Hope this image appeals - be sure to view Large on Black!!!!****
Have a Wonderful Christmas everyone - and thanks for any comments, viewings or favorites!!
Managed to get a couple of pics today. Jazss and Seb if you guys have time I neeeeeed new pics. I've been offline so long I've forgotten how to take photos. I'll pay you!
*throws lindens around with wild abandon*
Managed to shoot a few lovely shots of one of these speedsters swooping low over the field picking of midget flies. This is a 50% crop.
I managed to make my way through the crowd of tourists who were busy taking selfies for this brief shot. Due to the number of people around me, I wasn't able to admire the scenery for even a minute.
There is a small villa which showed as a little white speck, just behind the nearest tree tops in this frame. A magnified shot of that architecture can be found right here.
I managed to catch this jet stream as it passed the sculpture of The Ship at Half Moon Bay, Heysham. It has the effect of passing through the cavity in the sculptured mans body.
This sculpture is by Anna Gillespie to celebrate the maritime heritage of the Morecambe Bay area.
Mischief Managed is SL’s premier Hogwarts roleplaying community. Featuring an exclusive mesh castle & grounds, you can live out your own magical story as Harry Potter did!

Managed to get a clear bit of late afternoon sun just in time to view the shards of ice soaring out of the glacierlagoon.

I managed to snatch a quick thirty minutes in Highgate Wood on the way to work the other day. Still a lot of green foliage, but this little spot seems to be ahead of the game.
Taken at Horn Mill Ospreys Trout Farm Rutland
Canon1DX-2 with 300mm 2.8 prime lens
This camera and lens are a phenomenal combination as you can see......there is very little grain in the picture and at f/5.6 the set up has managed to apply focus throughout the picture. This, in my opinion, is down to selecting, in camera AF point expansion in this case 9 points.
If you're wondering about the settings, why f/5.6, why ISO 6400 well this is because the light at that time was dull and to stop the subject in flight requires fast speed. In hindsight, the f-stop could have been 6.3 or even 7.1 or the ISO 5000 producing a shutter speed of around 1/3000 sec but you go with what feels right to you the button presser and hope for the best. One other thing to consider is exposure the bird has a large amount of white about it, so I have underexposed by 2/3rds of a stop.
I managed a quick shot of this Robin as it flew from bush to bush, just ahead of us, as we walked around the lakeside path at Hardwick Country Park the other day.
Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.
Finally managed to capture a photo I am happy with after being stuck in a rut for the last two months. We've struggled with a lot of rain for the past months here in Alberta which only added insult to injury. But at last, the rain stopped so I took a little last minute trip to Drumheller and I'm glad I did because the sunset really showed up!
Normally the park is quite dry but because of all the recent rain, the vegetation was very lush and green, and it contrasted the desert scene quite nicely. Add the beautiful golden sunset light beaming through the canyon and it brought some life into the scene.
This scene had a very high dynamic range and with the foreground being so close to the lens, it made for a technical picture to shoot. It is a focus stack of 3 images. Additionaly, I waited for the sun to get closer to the horizon for the light to be less harsh and the clouds to have more colours to snap an extra exposure for the sky. I also used a polarizing filter to remove glare and make the greens pop more.
Managed to get out for a shortish walk this morning. Started off in great light, which then got worse and worse. But at least I got out!
An Oak-leaved Hydrangea in a public flowerbed near home.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :)
