Managing to gaze into the open eyes of a snowy in daylight can be difficult, at best. Their sensitive retinas leave them squinting throughout most of the day… that is when they are not actually sleeping. But in the minutes before sunrise, when its rays lazily find their way above the horizon, the beaches and bays are eerily blue and the golden iris of the snowy glows with pupils as large as saucers. It takes luck! Luck finding a bird in a suitable place, luck having a cloudless sunrise, and luck finding an owl motionless enough to allow for a photograph in such low light. As luck would have it, we were -- quite lucky. It was a brief but memorable moment at twilight dawn, indeed. #SnowyOwls
Managed to fracture a fibula while here last week . not been far this week so more Crete pics for a while.
Managed to sneak my way under the tree he was in (it's about 60' tall and he was about 40' up) and get off some shots of the Cooper's Hawk. Really hard to get a clean shot with very little light to work with due to the overcast skies and so many tree branches in the way - this is the best view I could get.
“There will be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion-making. However, for those select few... Who possess, the predisposition... I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death." Professor Severus Snape

As you make your way through the gorge you'll pass several historical mill ruins, waterwheels, three mill ponds and a series of waterfalls. And also plenty of free parking... Bonus

Managed to get Petrov up into the forest for a test flight with new firmware, just as the Sun was about to disappear below the ridgeline.
Day 16 of Pentax Forum's Daily in August 2017 Challenge.
I managed another sunrise outing with friend and fellow flickr photographer Paul Hollins to Merewether Beach and Burwood Beach NSW; Australia yesterday morning.
Conditions were wonderful - a really low tide exposed this nice collection of rocks and these were complimented nicely by some great color just prior to sunrise.
It's scenes like this that make you grateful for good vision and health that allow us to enjoy the magnificence of nature and the world around us!!

*throws lindens around with wild abandon*
I managed to make my way through the crowd of tourists who were busy taking selfies for this brief shot. Due to the number of people around me, I wasn't able to admire the scenery for even a minute.
There is a small villa which showed as a little white speck, just behind the nearest tree tops in this frame. A magnified shot of that architecture can be found right here.
I managed to catch this jet stream as it passed the sculpture of The Ship at Half Moon Bay, Heysham. It has the effect of passing through the cavity in the sculptured mans body.
This sculpture is by Anna Gillespie to celebrate the maritime heritage of the Morecambe Bay area.
So I managed to log in for a short while yesterday, and took that snap. Modded it a little and blah.
I wanted to say SORRY to Takuma who wrote to me exact second I crashed and I just did not log back.

AND I AM TAGGING YOOO PPL or sth.
I managed to get a reasonable photo of one of these guys. They have a habit of being almost constantly on the move and don't settle for long so you don't get much chance to focus. This one is on a nettle leaf just resting, its not the food plant. Lady's Smock is the main food-plant.

I managed to finish work over 5hrs early today & whist 'passing' back to Derby & going through Loughborough I noticed 37421 & 37610 in the back platform with the driver changing ends. A quick check on my phone showed me what they were on. So on arrival back at Derby it was a quick drive home, a change of clothes & pick up the camera & pole, then a spirited drive over to Elford. They were on the goods line at Burton as I pulled up at Elford. By the time I'd walked down the field & got into position they were in Elford loop. Then by the time I'd set up they were just coming out Elford loop & coming under the bridge, some 26 minutes early. Close.
37610 (tnt with 37421) pulls away from Elford loop hauling 1Q46 11:08 Derby RTC - Derby RTC (via Burton Leic Jn, Stapleford & Sandiacre, L'Boro, Toton, Washwood Heath West Jn & Chaddesden) test train on the 20th February 2023 (pole)
Managed to get a shot of this little mouse who is regular visitor to the bird feeders in the garden.
Finally managed to capture a photo I am happy with after being stuck in a rut for the last two months. We've struggled with a lot of rain for the past months here in Alberta which only added insult to injury. But at last, the rain stopped so I took a little last minute trip to Drumheller and I'm glad I did because the sunset really showed up!
Normally the park is quite dry but because of all the recent rain, the vegetation was very lush and green, and it contrasted the desert scene quite nicely. Add the beautiful golden sunset light beaming through the canyon and it brought some life into the scene.
This scene had a very high dynamic range and with the foreground being so close to the lens, it made for a technical picture to shoot. It is a focus stack of 3 images. Additionaly, I waited for the sun to get closer to the horizon for the light to be less harsh and the clouds to have more colours to snap an extra exposure for the sky. I also used a polarizing filter to remove glare and make the greens pop more.
Although I could see him hiding behind the clump of Marram grass, the Snow Buntings couldn't.
Fortunately for the SBs the male Kestrel didn't manage to grab one - bit unfortunate for my chances of an award winning photo though - but I don't mind :-).
After the storms a couple of months ago this is one of the many large branches and trees left floating in the loch.
Pictures with Zeke, Joaquin, Garett and Andy at their house. The kids are Jewish, Mestiza (Mexican Indian/Spanish) and Cherokee. I love taking pictures of siblings, but it was also neat to work with brothers. Somehow I managed to get a bunch of sisters together, but this is the first brother set. They're the same as girls in the sense that they are young and respond well to the camera. I like how two brothers can have the same parents but such different hair. I suppose that will also be more evident when I put my eventual self portraits up with Rachael's.
Joaquin was a total ham. You can see in some pictures he's literally dancing in the background. Or the foreground. But hammy kids always love the camera, so I love them. Zeke, the older boy was not as energized, but he had a quiet brooding intensity that photographed well, too. I've learned so much about working with young people on this project. I can say I'm a fan of their energy and passion.
Managed to get a very special package together just in time, Hopefully it will arrive for my Friend's Birthday.. Susie Stopped me from Shipping it before I put the Card in!
Good job Susie Sass!
Managed to grab an hour for myself to make some images. Been a good few weeks where I've had time and it wasn't cold, wet and grey. Popped into town for a quick stroll around the waterfront and shopping streets from some multi exposure fun

I hope you enjoy reading about something you've probably never have heard of before, including a couple of unusual lenses, supposedly made by some of the biggest names in the business, but forgotten over time. Of course I appreciate your feedback and suggestions and if you find some errors/have some additional information or know someone who might, I'm really thankful if you reach out to me!

Rainy day in LA today-- I managed to drive across town in the traffic and watery streets to visit an old friend and his even older roommate. The guy, Don, is well known in some circles for his literary criticism; I met him a few years ago when he came into the costume shop to have me make a costume to wear to some of his poetry readings all over the country. It was nice to see him- 74 years old and still his mind is very sharp- he exercises daily and does a lot of walking, and he has more energy than I do. He is an inspiration, really. So, seeing him and meeting his roommate was not only a pleasure for me, but they were so pleased I felt glad that I had not cancelled in this hectic season of too much visiting and not wanting to hassle the hour's drive home up the 405 to go maybe twenty miles in the rain.
Then, Rafa in Brazil got the Christmas card I sent him and he expressed his happiness in a photo in his stream; my friend Teh in Malaysia got his card, took an adorable picture of himself, and told me how happy it made him in an email. So I guess I spread some Christmas cheer around, even as hollow as I feel inside. The happiness I received from my friends made the day worth living, really. Thanks, guys!!
Then I get a call from my ex, Richard, thanking me for my Christmas card to him and telling me that he leaves tomorrow for a ten-day trip to Scotland for Christmas, and I plunge back into the darkness. Wasn't it I who suggested during our 17 years together that we go to the Cotswolds or someplace in Britain for Christmas one year, once my parents were gone and I no longer had any family to tie me down?
Well, I guess this will affect me just about as much as I will let it.
Onward to the next day in this holiday season...
I've managed a handful of photographs of Peregrines perched on a cliff, and a few overhead flight shots, and all have their challenges. This is the only time I've managed one from a view point higher than the bird, so with limited time and overcast conditions I'm quite happy with it. I was volunteering at Bempton Cliffs on the East Yorkshire coast, when this individual did a "sortie" over the sea and along the face of the cliff
Managed to capture a shot of the 250 GTO/64 (Chassis 4399GT) as it was being driven back to its stall in the paddock, and found that the Black and White treatment worked best.

Here's another from last weeks stormy visit to White Pocket. Absolutely amazing place! I have got to go back when there is some decent light. The sun never came out.
This is actually the first time I have ever managed to successfully shoot a lightning strike during daylight. I got a lightning trigger last year that is supposed to trigger your shutter when lightning strikes. It is a useless piece of crap. I did not use it for this. Instead I went with the fairly primitive technique of frantically pressing the shutter button repeatedly every time I saw a flash. Got one!
genius manages to roll car in a single vehicle accident on a hot dry day on a dead straight piece of highway in light weekend traffic. he was ok and on his mobile straight away. maybe he never got off it? that would be awesome. "hello? hello?? wtf just happnened?" "oh, jus roll my car lor, no worry mah, this AYE si beh tricky to drive one lah."
oh, in today's paper - another genius managed to crash his motorbike into a turning bus, going through the rear doors in the process and leaving his bike wedged in the bus aisle. he wasn't as lucky as this driver and is in a critical condition. check out the picture in the news story

Managed to find a poppy field after lots of looking around and driving aimlessly. Thanks to the girls that assisted with help finding the location. Local knowledge always wins out.
I managed to grab a quick image of the crescent moon and the planet Venus before the clouds rolled in last night. Hope you like it!

Thankfully, I managed to get to to the gym this morning for my Spin and Yoga Classes and as it continued to rain all day (so far) I wasn't going out for any photographs so, as always, lovely flowers, always brighten up my day!

Thanks for viewing, and for any favs/comments.
I managed to escape to the Peak District this week to catch up with an old friend and visit a new location. The idea was to wild camp and take both sunset and sunrise shots, but the weather forecast changed and the sun failed to show up at sunset and with heavy rain predicted through the night and into the next day we decided to call it a night.
A nice view but one for another day when the conditions are better. A nice leg stretch and a good chat in the pub before heading home to a comfy bed.
Managed to capture an image of this fast-mover. Seen near the Turtle Pond at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, Arcadia CA.
