luckily i managed to get to the 80cm distance from this posing herring gull, which is required of the lc-a's zone focus. and black and white film photography seems to go nicely with the gloomy, murky days of the uk's winter..

I managed to shoot both sunset AND sunrise today, which is something I've done more times this year than ever before. As a non-morning person, I consider that a big accomplishment :)
However you spent your day today, I hope you started the year off doing something you love.
Happy 2014!

This year’s CEO VIP reception and gala were hosted at Metro Convention Centre, in Toronto | Learn more about Canada’s Best Managed Companies.
CEO VIP reception: An exclusive reception for the CEOs of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies and program sponsors, this event was an opportunity for the new winners to get together in a more intimate environment before they joined the gala.
Gala: The Best Managed gala dinner was hosted by Ben Mulroney who guided almost 1900 guests, winning CEOs, their senior management teams and families, through a celebration as we honoured the best. Great Big Sea set the stage with some of their high voltage hits throughout the night.
managed a few hours out yesterday with some help from a mate . mixed bag of shots but good to be out doing what I love . not yet back to full strength so some a bit shaky
I managed a ride today on ADL's 10,000th example of their Enviro400 MMC registered as YX67UZB. Whilst it was a nice bus to ride on with suspension absorbing bumps, great turn of speed, USB sockets and phone holders, it lacked WiFi enabling access to the internet and video streaming. I found the coach style leather seats extremely comfortable and wouldn't disappoint on long journeys. But what disappointed me was its colour combination of a light black tinted windows and the grey interior. It would have been much brighter with a lighter shade of black or no tint at all.
Managed to get up to Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park before we left Moab. We left the next day and the skies were cloudy so timing is everything! There were a LOT of people up there for the sunrise. I was lucky to find a spot where I could grab "people free" images of the sunrise.
I managed a turn on Gala visitor Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Aspinall 0-6-0 ‘27’ class 52322 this afternoon. It and 75069 are heading services this weekend but both will return to their bases next week.
I only had a single trip and I have to confess I didn't really get on with it that well. The firehole door/deflector plate works on a ratchet which kept slipping closed & the hinges hanging down in the mouth of the hole are very off-putting.
We were never down the pan but it was fraught! Given a second trip (& without the loco's owner on the footplate looking over my shoulder) I might have got the hang of it...
Another lacklustre day.
Managed an hour and a half or so clearing the brambles from the stream bank.
This is a sleeper bridge between our garden and the field where I kept my horse when he was alive. Sorely neglected, I don't think I'd risk taking 1/2 ton of horse over there now!
We will try and repair a smaller version of this one day...
Treasure Hunt 17: Bridge over (troubled) Water, or Troubled Bridge over Water as I call it!
I may replace this if I get to see a more exciting bridge...
I managed to get this shot by sticking my lens through a hole in a covering over a window. (Just being nosey!)
What actually took place in this particular building, I'd love to know!
This is one of the historical buildings which was part of a victualling depot for the Royal Navy and was named The Royal William Victualling Yard after King William IV. It was built between 1826 and 1835 and finally closed in 1992 and passed into private hands.
It is now being developed into a smart upmarket area, with luxury apartments and various businesses including shops, restaurants, and an exhibition centre. All being created to preserve the character of the Grade 1 Listed buildings.
Situated in the Stonehouse area of Plymouth, it is an interesting and attractive place to visit for anyone in the area.
I managed to get out again with my camera today. Sincere thanks to Bill and Clare for their help and hospitality.
My piece for the Phat Quarter Book Swap. This is for Salvaged Mutiny.
Stitched on 25ct mushroom colored fabric. It has a little over 1700 stitches. I used this lowercase alphabet
I manage to prise off my wide angle and use my 75mm-300mm for a change took this at 300mm at F5.6.
shot towards the light first thing this morning
when I put the wide angle back they where like dots in the ocean, they almost the same colour has me
Thank you all for you visits, comments and favs
I managed to get the scale focus on point here at f3.5, wide open, it was a dark corner, of course as soon as I loaded 125 iso film the clouds rolled in with a vengeance. It may have been f5.6 I gave up note taking ages ago, I thought it was overthinking and spoiled spontaneity.
And yes, placing the seed head in the dark patch in the lower centre third was deliberate, sometimes serendipity needs a nudge.
Managed to capture this little fella testing out his wings and jumping off the ground before he scuttled off after Mum and Dad.... had more shits of the jump but the focus did not keep up despite using 1/1200 on shutter priority.....
Manage to catch exactly the effect I was looking for with this one with a textbook image of a conversion being kicked.
Managed to wake up one morning to catch a sunrise in Maui. Totally worth it.

I managed to capture two airliners flying at different altitudes at the same time from my home in Olathe, looking to the southwest.
In the foreground - an American Airlines Boeing 737-823 (Flight 2487 from Kansas City to Dallas/Fort Worth) flying over southwestern Johnson County, at a cruising altitude of about 15,000 feet and a ground speed of 370 knots (flying a track of 195°).
In the background - a Delta Air Lines Airbus A330-223 (Flight 405 from Salt Lake City to Atlanta) flying over southwestern Johnson County, at a cruising altitude of about 41,000 feet and a ground speed of 559 knots (flying a track of 109°). Aircraft Registration: N856NW

Managed to snatch a couple of hours or so this morning..............
The esplanade here runs atop a sea wall, the original of which was constructed in the mid 19th Century by Joseph Bazalgette who was best known for the London sewers and The Embankment. The bays along this stretch of coast were all guarded by a chesil bank, like the one at Portland but not so large. Bazalgette used the old chesil bank as the fouindation for his sea wall and later generations have added additional layers so the edifice no longer has it's original rather splendid Victorian look.
Yeaah! Paddy managed to train his owner to get him a badge. Other than being filled full of sausage he took it in his stride .. his faux pas is to lie and wait ... for a minute .. far tooooooo long for a young collie who has other things to do . "Down Paddy ... WAIT!" ... ......... 'he's going to get up, he is .. he is .. phew .. he's only switching sides .. uh oh he going to get up, phew .. he only just looking at the other dogs to see if they're bored too .. uh oh .... hes .. he's licking himself ... (no no no no ..) he's crawling and chewing the floor (hope the examiner isn't watching! .. no she isn't .. phew .. i'm getting a sweat on .. how many seconds so far ... 20! ...groan ... If we do the silver he has to wait for 2 minutes!!
Managed to catch him on full zoom, not too sharp, but I was thrilled to see a thrush, so rare these days.
Candy: “Well, how about I make a copy of the photo for you, but only if you manage to keep it safely hidden until Christmas. If Danny finds it on your watch, the deal’s off. So, what do you say? You wanna play keep-away with me?”
Charley (thoughtfully): “Danny won’t mind if you make a copy for me?”
Candy: “You know he won’t. *expression grows intense, voice low* Look, Charley, I need this to happen. I need to surprise him, so I can rub his face in my victory for the rest of our lives.”
Yuri: “Ah, darling, do you not mean so you can gaze upon his joyous expression when he opens it Christmas Day?”
Candy: *waves hand* “Yeah-yeah. That’s the version we’ll tell our kids. Keep in mind he may come sniffing around tomorrow. He probably suspects that I’m using tonight to pass off his gift to one of you, so all of you may get visits from the snoop.”
Emma: “I’ll juice wave a tampon at him an’ send him fleein’ like those blokes in the Monty Python movie. Done an’ sorted.”
Molly: *taps on her tablet, holds it up* “Run away! Run away!”
Emma: *laughs* “Aye, that’s the one!”
Yuri (blithely): “Daniel has never gone toe-to-toe with me and won. This time will be no different.”
Kumi: *shrugs* “I’ll squish his beanbags.”
Charley: *turns to Molly, signs/says* “What do you think? Should I do it?”
Molly: *signs* “Sounds like fun.”
Charley: *nods* “It’s a deal, Can. I’m pretty good at hiding stuff, and I really want a copy of that photo.”
Candy: *rubs hands together* Awesome! Hey, Molly, will you pass me my bag?”
Molly: *grabs bag, passes to Candy*
Candy: “Thanks. *pulls an envelope out of her bag, hands it to Charley* Don’t let me down.”
Kumi: “Where you gonna hide it? I’d suggest your closet. I know I’m too terrified to look in there.”
—Sound of door unlocking—
Charley: *signs/says* “Diego’s back.”
Diego: *walks in, pockets his keys, and nods in greeting* “Ladies. Is there any food left, or is that stupid question since Kumi’s here?”
Molly: *signs* “We saved you a plate. It’s in the oven.”
Diego: *signs/says* “Thanks.” *turns towards the kitchen*
Charley: “Wait! *gets up quickly, walks around to face him* You said I could have my present when you got back.”

I managed to get over the rocks and close to the sea. The tripod was in the water but wedged tight. Nothing beats the smell of the sea...

Managed to catch the #RSPB gardens in an early morning mist . The pergola takes on a strange aspect .
Managed to catch her on a nice day in Victoria. At Ogden Point Terminal. A good view of her after working decks. Built for Orange Marine in 2002, she was designed to lay and repair submarine fibre optic systems. She can stay at sea for two months and is able to lay up to 8,000 km of cable without interruption. She really is a magnificent vessel.
Managed to grab this image of a tawny eagle as the bird was spooked by my auto stopping nearby, and in the process of flying away.
Managed to grab a couple of shots over the weekend :-) Better on Black

Managed to get a couple of shots of this grass snake as it crossed the track. Moved quickly and disappeared into the long grass.
I've finally managed to catch up with the rest of the world and put together a facebook page to follow the Wanderlings. :P I've freshened up my site to match, shared their story and put up a few galleries to start. I plan to post updates there more regularly as well. I would love for you to come by for a visit, like us and share your page/timeline with me, so I can like you and keep updated with you as well. ^____^
Please see my profile for the link if you are interested.
Thank you :)
Managed to catch up with the Yellowhammers again on Friday though the wind made them a little skittish
Managed to get out for half an hour earlier to play with my new toy. Was restricted to somewhere near to me before the sun set but absolutely loving this new addition to my kit bag.
Managed to open flight radar just as Mr11s best friends flight was taking off to come and visit.
Now the fun starts - two active tweenaged boys in my house for a few days :)
I took myself a photo of this WSN/SITA/Suez truck ejecting a load at Pioneer Waste Management in Taren Point, being the average 5t of bulk waste taken away from Kogarah. Worth noting is that this is a Heil Europe machine, obvious telltale being the control console - funny thing is that the lifter was operated by a valve lever instead of buttons like you’d expect! Had a lot of problems with the packer on this, lots of manual operation was required mainly during the second half of the cycle, kept seizing up in auto. Something I’ve gotta mention is how awesome this truck sounded at every point, even just the sharp kick of revs when dis/engaging the tailgate locks... especially epic doing the Pacific Square dock in Maroubra but. This truck did do Randwick for a short time when I transferred across, and it was mad fun to use, might’ve had some hardware issues and bent lifter teeth, but it worked quick and went tough. Absolutely devo I never managed to take a video and probably won’t in future.
Managed to capture this aerial shot of the Bootleg Fire in Southern Oregon, about 8 hours after the fire started. Two days later this fire has now burned nearly 17,000 acres and is only 1% contained.
Coming directly on the heels of a historic drought in California and the worst heatwave in recorded history across the Pacific Northwest, this is one of several massive wildfires raging up and down the west coast and is likely just a small preview of what we can expect for the remainder of the summer (and every summer for the rest of our lives in this neoliberal capitalist hellscape).
I managed to get Graham to allow me to take a photo of him for his Birthday. Not an easy task, as he hates having his photo taken almost more than I do.
But as I had gone completely blank on what else I could take he eventually said yes. Good thing as even Izzy and Rufus had decided it was a no photo day.
That's fruit juice he's drinking not a glass of rosé and he's got an appointment at the barber's tomorrow for a good hair cut and beard trim!
Happy Birthday Darling, with love from Izzy, Rufus and me. xx
Note: Graham says thank you for all your Birthday wishes.

Thank you for your favourites. :O)
Narrowly, I manage to block Ubu’s attack with my blade and before he has time to react, I launch my own. As he adjusts his grip, I launch a volley of rapid swings against him attempting to force him on the defensive. Just as you’d expect from a man entrusted to serve as my father’s enforcer, he blocks every single one of my blows in quick succession and seemingly with relative ease. Naturally, I’d expected him to do so. My father is not one to place his trust in people easily, and he never allows the weak to serve him. So of course Ubu was always going to block those strikes, I’d have been disappointed if he hadn’t, which is why my aim wasn’t to try and hit him with my blade but simply to distract him. It doesn’t take long for him to realise this as well, but before he can respond I throw a pair of bat-shaped throwing stars or ‘Batarangs’ as Bruce refers to them. Ubu successfully manages to block the first, but without enough time to properly respond to the second, the throwing star quickly lodges itself into his left arm.
Rather disconcertingly, he hardly reacts at all beyond removing the throwing star and throwing it aside after inspecting it momentarily.
Ubu: Projectiles Talia? That really isn’t your style.
Talia: Nor is cowardice yours.
Ubu: Cowardice? I’m not the one who deserted the cause.
Talia: But you lacked the courage to be honest.
Ubu: Cowardice and obedience are two very separate things, Talia. Don’t tell me you’re foolish enough to see them as one in the same.
Talia: I’m not the one too afraid to challenge my father when he does the wrong thing.
Ubu: And look where that has brought us, Talia. Both of us on opposing sides, your child potentially unfit to claim the title of Heir to the Demon due to his lineage. All of this could have been avoided had you convinced the deserter to stay. None of this would be happening now if you had placed your loyalty to the master over your desires.
Talia: Does my father also believe this is my fault?
I’m shocked by Ubu’s remark that Damian’s claim to the position of the Demon’s heir is in question. Given how much my father has craved a direct line of succession led by male heirs, I can’t help but be surprised that he’s possibly considering denying Damian that right. Has his hatred for Bruce become so great that he’s prepared to cast Damian aside?
No.
That can’t be right. My father is many things but he’s not irrational. It’s possible Damian may be the only second-generation descendant he’ll have. Surely, he wouldn’t risk the line of succession simply out of spite?
Talia: Answer me, Ubu.
Ubu: The master does not hold you responsible.
Talia: And Bruce?
Ubu: The master will not rest until the deserter has paid the price for the damage he has done. Both to the League and the Al-Ghul lineage.
As both Ubu and I keep our blades drawn in case the other makes a move, I can’t help but notice the puncture wound from my throwing star slowly disappearing as he heals. Evidently, he’s been exposed to the pit recently. No doubt my father has had the League set up camp near the pit beneath Gotham for this assault. There’s no way that wound would heal so quickly if he hadn’t been exposed to the pit recently.
But this does pose a problem. With Ubu having bathed in the pit recently, any moves designed to overwhelm an opponent through excessive pain will be all but worthless against him so I have only one option, and it’s not the one Bruce would like.
Talia: Clearly you’ve established camp close to the pit.
Ubu: You would expect anything less from us?
Talia: No, but I couldn’t be sure. Since I’ve sided against him I wasn’t sure whether my father would try something different to stop me being a tactical asset.
Ubu: Why sacrifice a tactical advantage such as the pit simply for a surprise when that can be accomplished using unconventional forms of warfare.
Talia: You can stop trying to mislead me, Ubu. We both know the reason my father had you launch this gas attack, and it has nothing to do with trying to best us.
It’s nothing more than a red herring. A distraction designed to divert our attention away from the cave where Damian remains imprisoned.
Ubu: The boy will fulfil the task given to him by the master.
Talia: And if I say otherwise?
Ubu: You needn’t. The boy’s destiny will come to pass one way or another. The only question Talia, is whether or not you choose to be on the right side of history or not.
Before I have a chance to respond, Ubu momentarily twirls his blade before readying himself for my next assault. Evidently he’s realised that I won’t be easily swayed to his cause, thus he’s instead chosen to restrain me and then take me back to my father. As I glance behind for a moment, I notice Tim unleashing several rapid blows against his opponent in quick succession forcing his opponent onto the defensive. A bold move. Most opponents of the League often tend to use a conservative defence when fighting members of the League, seeing Tim choosing to go on the offensive is an interesting sight to behold and it seems to be working.
With Tim seemingly more than managing to take care of himself, I redirect my attention back towards Ubu whose puncture wound has almost fully healed. I twirl my own blade and change my grip so I’m holding the blade’s handle in only my right hand.
Talia: You of all people should know, Ubu. There is no right side of history. Everyone believes themselves to be on the right side. But what matters most, is being on the winning side of history, and unfortunately it seems you’ve chosen to not be on that side.
As Ubu readies himself, I sprint forward with my blade at the ready. Sadly with his exposure to Lazarus there seems to be no other option but to not hold back. I’m sorry Bruce, I have no other choice…………
Managed to catch the tail end of the lightning from today’s storm. Too bad I was busy during the best of it.
Holding the score and managing the ride. It looked like he might beat the buzzer...
Saddle bronc event at the Utah State Fair Rodeo 2022. Captured some of the action on Fuji 400 shot at EI 800. Shot with Nikon N90s and Nikkor 35-105 AF lens. Although I was close to the action, the lens was not quite long enough. 800 still did not get enough of the stadium lights either, but some good shots were had. I like the action. I was also shooting 800 Instax with the Speed Graphic but that lens was too short as well...
Stand developed one shot diluted Fuji N1 C-41 developer 1:9 with 30ml of developer at 80 degrees F for 60 minutes with 3 inversions every 15 minutes. Bleached in potassium ferricyanide bleach for 10 minutes at room temp and home made ammonium thiosulfate fixer for 10 minutes at room temp.
Overall stand development like this is do-able however there is uneven development from the developer sitting. That might be "fixable" with more developer in the tank since I am probably only a little above the film anyway.
Overall fun event with part of another roll yet to develop.
Helen's a big Kate Bush fan - and there's a few similarities there too - both of them are on mission to express themselves artistically, and both can manage a mean hair flip :) This one reminded me of Kate's swinging head moves in her music videos.
