I managed just one shot of this little beauty this time before it flew off, quite distant so pretty heavily cropped, being on heathland and because it can turn up anywhere makes it very difficult to get any closer.
I have never seen one before last week and have now seen it twice in two weeks, which is pretty much down to the virus as its forced me to stay local.
My apologies if like me you have spent many years visiting places where they are known to be and not seen one, I liken it to the many places we have visited to see red squirrels and drawn a blank everytime, one day maybe.
Stay safe everyone.
I managed to take my long lens out for a while this morning and was lucky to find this beautifully marked Black tailed Godwit from Firth hide Dungeness RSPB (it is the closest hide on the trail from the car park ) . Thank you for all your good wishes and kindness I still cannot walk far but this is a good start to my recovery .
Finally managed to catch a break with the weather - unseasonably warm - nice to see the blue sky, with a lovely side light to enjoy. This scene is on the higher ground and the back end of the Mary Gilbert walk.
I managed to get a clear shot after a lengthy approach to this juvenile Coopers Hawk. Lots of branches in front of it so by the time I got a clear shot I was much closer than I wanted and had to take it vertically at 700mm, so this is the entire frame. The bird had been eating a small bird just prior, and you can see some of the feathers on the perch just to the right of the hawk. They are more likely to tolerate your presence if they are eating and if you don't make a direct approach.....He/she was still there when I left but was gone 5 minutes later....

So we managed to get out out and into North Wales. Night in the tent with pretty spectacular thunderstorms.......which I did manage to sleep through after the first one and my worries of being struck by lightening had abated with tiredness! Woken at 4am for our sunrise walk......I literally could not see the surroundings with darkness and the low visibility - I followed along behind him and torch......I do that a lot!.......But I survived the edges, rocks and ascents.....quite something when you trek back down in the light and realise where you went in the dark!
Managed to find a place to take this pic above the street in a nearby park. This located in Arlington, VA. I was trying to hit the blue hour and get the LE light trails. Got some minor ghosting affects too in there.
I managed last night to get out or my first ever Aurora hunt. It was a bit of a shock coming off ISO 100!!! Pretty pleased how it has come out for a first attempt.
I managed to make Loch Vaa before sunrise and had plenty of time before I was due to meet Paul (Paul Bousie) and Allan (LoneWolfA7ii), so headed off to find a suitable vantage point.
To my surprise part of the loch was frozen, but the area in front of the boatshed was clear and calm.
Unfortunately the cloud cover was too thick for any real sunrise colour to develop so the reflection is the main feature of this early image.
I finally managed to get a shot of the Langet Cave which leads out to Bow Fiddle Rock, near Portknockie, on the Moray Firth in Scotland. This is always a tricky shot due to a number of factors. The level of water has to be right, the waves have to be strong enough but not too big, there has to be enough ambient light to get into the cave but not too strong outside. Even when all of this works, you still have to exposure blend in order to get enough detail both inside and outside the cave. I really feel that I got the shot I have been hoping to get for some time.
The Confederation Building is a office building in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located just west of the Parliament Buildings at Bank Street and Wellington Street, it is generally considered part of Parliament Hill.
The "civil gothic" structure was designed by Richard Cotsman Wright and Thomas W. Fuller. Work on the Confederation Building began when the cornerstone was laid by the Governor General Lord Willingdon as part of the celebrations of Canada's Diamond Jubilee in 1942.
The building, now managed by Public Works Canada, originally housed employees of several federal government departments, with the Department of Agriculture usually the largest tenant. It is currently home to senior civil servants and a number of elected members of Parliament (MP's) and junior Federal Cabinet Ministers. Many Conservative Party of Canada MP's, Liberal Party of Canada MP's, and New Democratic Party of Canada MP's have their offices in the building, along with some junior cabinet members.
In 1988, the Canadian federal government designated the structure as a Classified Federal Heritage Building. The Confederation Building has long been an Ottawa landmark and favoured photographic subject for tourists visiting the National Capital Region of Canada.
I didn't manage to take a single shot of Skovtårnet. This photo is stiched together by 5 photos.
That is because the forest tower is located in the middle of Gisselfeld's forests. The experience already starts when you first step onto the 3,2 kilometer long raised footpath, which meanders through the forest, around the trees and over the streams, until the Skovtårnet suddenly fades into view between the trees.
Suddenly you stand in front of a 45 meter high tower.
The iconic architecture of the Forest Tower is inextricably linked to the hourglass shape, which is drawn from a cylindrical shape, where the bottom and top are maximized, while the middle is laced into a so-called hyperboloid shape. This narrowing in the middle of the construction is important for the experience in Forest Tower, as you get very close to three beautiful beech trees, which grow in the middle of the structure.
Managed out last weekend on a trip to Perthshire, Full Autumn colours are not there yet but was so nice finding new places, This was taken on the way back to my car where the sun was breaking through the forest to light up this ancient old oak tree in amongst the conifers.
I managed to get down to Jacob's eye level yesterday.... and I managed to get back on my feet! Paignton, Devon
Just managed to get the Moon, Venus and Mercury into the FOV. Mercury can be seen at the top of the band of cloud.
Taken with NightCap. Long Exposure mode, 14.35 second exposure, 1/7s shutter speed.
Managed to get a close up of this when sitting on the homeowners front wall.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :)
A managed pond reflects trees just leafing out in the spring at Uihlein Waterfowl Production Area.
Notice the eagle nest in the upper center of the image. This is the nest occupied by the birds in many of my recent images of bald eagles.

Back in December of 2015, I managed to find the BEEM S2 113 handling the road train duties. By this time, the 113's 2 decade plus tenure on the road was coming to a close, and it also coincided with the beginning of myself making the drive down to shoot the Beech Mountain when I could find the info on them running.
Unfortunately for my sake, I have many more "subpar" photos, than I do of quality pictures I would add in my trips following the 113's reassignment and relegation to the loadout at Star Bridge. But this day I managed to luck out with a clutch sun pocket to really make this photo pop.
Moving forward to 2019, the 113 has now been strictly on loadout duties for the last 2+ years. In discussions with the mine personnel, 113 is really starting to show it's age which makes it more and more unlikely that we will ever see this unit out on the road again. The distant threat of replacing these alco's have been mentioned in the last couple of years with possibly a pair of SW1200's, but nothing concrete has yet to come from the rumors.
Managed to get up close to a family of Canada geese close to the shore of Shearwater Lkae on the edge of Wiltshire's Longleat estate.
Managed to catch some sunlight on this patch of moss. There is even a mini rainbow!
This is uncropped and tweaked minimally in CS mainly lightened a little.
made it to explore:
Highest position: 133 on Friday, March 6, 2009 - that makes it my 2nd highest to date
thanks friends and contacts for your interest, comments and favs all very much appreciated
I managed to get out before the Super Bowl yesterday for a little pre-game shooting. Here, a male Northern Harrier scans a field for rodents. Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, Missouri
I managed to catch this last minute this afternoon as a storm developed right over Hamilton Harbour. The lightning appears to be hitting Pier 4 Park in the distance (though it's actually slightly further away)
Managed to get down the coast for the sunrise. The tide seemed very high this morning, could not get on to the beach.
Managed to take a couple of shots of a (1st winter?) Pied Wagtail that seems to have taken a shine to my pond, it's a first for the garden and has spent most of the day happily walking around
A Canadian trio (U, W, U) lifts their fresh U-Tac loads up the Hill into Culver as Fall is definitely falling upon the Northland. Went out for a tiny while as the sun was out and a big drive back to Wisco was in order later, and managed at least one decent frame as 6021 takes center stage.
Managed to grab a quick shot before if flitted off. never seem to stay still long. This little fella is exploring some an old fencepost . Lovely little birds can be quite confiding so when one strikes A pose for the camera I grab it !!

This is Ted who I spent a long time watching while he tried to grab his tennis ball while swimming in the water. Every time he got his mouth round it, it pinged further along. I am happy to report that eventually he did manage to retrieve it
I managed to get out for the first time this year to capture the sunset over Torbay and although it was not a spectacular on I managed to get some decent shots. I set myself up on the cliff at Thatcher Point and trained the camera towards Meadfoot beach to get some of the last light of the day as the sun popped below the horizon.
Disappointment again! I managed to get this image shortlisted in this years LPOTY competition but learnt on Friday that it had not made it through to the book. This was taken at Low Hauxley last winter.
Whilst hiding in the hedgerow yesterday morning looking out for hares, we noticed a Fallow Buck in the distance. We managed to creep closer along the hedgerow and then this beautiful stag appeared out of the woods. He stayed for a few seconds and then they disappeared back into the woods.
Still haven't managed to find any decent butterfly shots from Easter Monday, but this gorgeous field of rapeseed.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm only 5'2" and rapeseed is a lot taller than that.... so, I had to stand on my tiptoes and reach my camera as high as I could into the air... I was able to twist my screen down so I could see what I was shooting LOL
It was a dull evening, but I think I salvaged this one :)
I'm so glad we're getting closer to the weekend. Even with 2 days off, I'm still shattered LOL
Have a lovely Thursday and thank you for stopping by and for the great comments on yesterday's Spring Scene Pic :)
We managed to get down in time, despite a dying set of strong thunderstorms covering from Darwin's rural right down to Mataranka... a developing cell just west of Batchelor threw down a few nice strikes. Had to skirt around felled large branches, twisted and smashed road signs between Noonamah and Acacia - evidence of a microburst there. From south of Adelaide River township, downpours pounded the area in the afternoon. 9 November 2015
Managed to get this pano using my light travel tripod - certainly isn't as stable as my main one! From Rangiwahia Hut Lookout looking towards Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe. Morning sun just starting to kiss the hill tops...
I did manage to find a small 'clump', it was after all late Summer!
I find that earlier in the year, their red is much more vibrant and deeper... the eternal wind on the great flats of the plain was blowing them around, the lower sun painting beautiful shadows...
Flanders without poppies? No way!!!

I managed to make friend out of this little guy in just a few minutes. He would sit on a branch near me, and sing his little heart out. Then he would fly off and come back with flies, and leave them on that branch for me to eat. I guess he thought I wasn't getting enough to eat or something. He never left but only for a minute or two and then suddenly reappear with food for me. He would eat it himself until he was sure I didn't seem to want it. What a neat little guy.
What's really funny is his mate is sitting on another branch nearby, and at first he was doing his dead level best to force her to leave. But after about a half hour or so, he forgot all about her and concentrated on me, how strange is that? So cute...

Cy looked forward to the coming year. If he did well can caught the attention of recruits again this year, especially those that had encouraged him to go for Captain in the first place, he hoped his future prospects in Pro-Quidditch would only grow.
