The earth is getting warmer which can make life difficult for skiing areas. Here in northern Iceland that is one of our problems, so now many machines create snow so people can enjoy skiing. They made a lovely scene this morning;-)

“When making decisions remember the worst decision is no decision. And when in doubt … do without. That is, except for ice cream and comic books. Last, but not least, never forget your school. Have you ever noticed that universities are always referred to as alma mater? It means nourishing mother. Education nourishes you for the next steps in your life.” — Kerby Confer, radio Hall of Fame broadcaster who’s owned an interest and operated over 200 radio station licenses. 💯🎓🐾 #BUClass2022 #HuskyPride #BloomOnward

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe these are the type of wasp that collect wood to make their home-this one was knawing-not sure if I spelt that correct-away on one of the tepee's we made in the garden for the beans to grow up.

Donald Trump’s triumph in the US presidential election and the UK’s vote for Brexit both appear to be forged out of the hostility to globalisation from those who feel they have been its victims and have lost out from free trade and increasing immigration. Both votes have split their countries almost exactly in half, revealing fissures on lines of class, generation, and region – not well captured by the platforms of traditional political parties.

At our event we asked:

How do leaders devise policies that will satisfy a divided country?

Will new populist pressures tempt politicians to make promises they cannot deliver?

How do governments persuade people to support policies whose benefit is for the country overall or lies far in the future?

Will this force a political realignment?

This event was chaired by Bronwen Maddox, Director, Institute for Government. She was joined by:

Prof Diane Roberts, Florida State University, and long-time political columnist

Lord (John) Kerr of Kinlochard, former Ambassador to the USA and British Representative to the EU

Rachel Wolf, Director of Public First and former Adviser to the Prime Minister.

being in the elevator freaked Li right out, but we were on the 7th floor of the hotel, and the stairs got really old -- particularly since she wouldn't let Mark carry her. After a couple of days she finally discovered the mirror on the back wall, and from then on she LOVED the elevator. I started making faces in the mirror, which she would happily imitate.

7. MAKING DASHI... Dashi is an important part of most Japanese cooking. It's basically a stock made from:

- kelp (in Japanese - kombu)

- fish flakes (in Japanese Bonito flakes)

First, add the kelp to a pan of cold water and heat, slowly stirring. DO NOT BOIL... If you do you will end up with a waxy taste, not pleasant.

After the kelp has thoroughly flavoured the water, sieve it out and set on one side (you can use it again, or just chuck it away)
