Making sushi. The kids have been helping to make dinner one night each week. They get to choose what they want to make. Jeremy chose sushi this time.

I have a small Etsy shop that I call Moonage Daydream. My latest project is soap, and I wanted to show them off to everyone. The tins are an experiment - I want to see if I can use old tins as molds and travel cases. Though I'll probably end up cutting them out with a knife, that's ok - it still means they can fit in the tins. Yay!

These guys were making a sleeping policeman in the road outside our house. What was amazing was that the whole thing was done by hand and eye: machinery was used only to dig up the road and roll the tarmac at the end; laying the tarmac, getting the depth right, and the curvature of the bump were all done by eye; their only "level was a length of wood which can just be seen in the background of some shots. Laying and rolling the tarmac took 8 men (a well oiled team they were) no more than 30 minutes.

The days leading to Uttarayan (the kite festival) people are busy making manja. Manja is cotton thread lined with crushed glass, which is used for kite fights. Here people use a mixture of rice (binding agent), crush glass and colour to prepare manja.
Making closet doors - Hindsight being the gem that it is, I now know it was a huge mistake to make the doors and not get them 'off the shelf.' It took me ages to make two sets of doors. Copyright © 2022 Gary Allman, all rights reserved.

In case anyone's wondering this is Mystic Connecticut - my old hometown. After I moved to Missouri 6 years ago they started an annual lighted boat parade and this year is the first year I could attend. I was ridiculously giddy with excitement to attend this event and took lots of photos.
The Christmas season in Mystic is bright and beautiful. The throngs of people are gone and the town returns to more of its New England roots and traditions. There is the arrival of Santa, the lighting of the town tree, shopping galore, the holiday stroll, the boat parade, dinner or drinks by the fire in any number of fine places or just strolling down Main St. window shopping and chatting with people you know. I hope so see you all there if you happen to be in town. I promise you will like it. :)
