Most of the music work I do is in very dark venues, and lately a lot of what I've posted has spent an hour and more bubbling through post-processing tweaks and pokes and, sometimes, whole-cloth invention.
For the curious, here's a before and after - straight out of the camera with no adjustment on the one hand, and as uploaded to Flickr on the other. After a while you get used to seeing which pictures are likely to contain information and color under the deep dim reds.

If this is your picture/you want me to remove it feel free - I basically searched Google Images for a picture of an older person and did some digital makeover work on it. It could be a lot better, but I got bored and some strange looks from those around me for editing a picture of a random old person.

My purpose is to share what I learned from certified Photoshop professionals. The aim of this workshop is for attendees to learn how to do it right and do away with common mistakes beginners apply to photos that totally mess everything up. In this workshop I will teach best-practice techniques of how to do what to do and, more important, what not to do: clean the face of pimples and tiny bumps but leave the important character marks, smoothen the face but leave enough texture. the eyes have it. i believe it's the "stare" that's the sole of every portrait (at least for those with models who look at the lens). Argueably, i think it's the most important because it's the connection between the model and the photographer as well as the model and the viewer. So, make them and keep them clear, sharp and healthy-looking. don't put cataract and blur them eyes which would ruin "the stare".
