from London Councils' advice on 'Parking Your Car in London':

Tips on avoiding parking tickets:

Do not return to a meter or pay and display bay and buy more parking time.

Do not assume there is free parking on Bank Holidays, Sundays or in the evenings -in some areas parking restrictions apply at evenings and weekends.

Do not park in permit holders only bays during restricted times.

Do not assume it is safe to park in an area because others have parked there or because someone else says it’s OK.

If in doubt ask a parking attendant or traffic warden.

If there are no signs on yellow lines, check for controlled zone entry signs

London is a thriving commercial and residential area - consequently parking controls are necessary to maintain traffic flow and protect amenity.

There is a shortage of parking spaces in many places, however, London has an extensive public transport network. Using car parks is often preferable to street parking as many roads are reserved for resident permit holders only.

When parking on the street we recommend you follow the guidance set out in this leaflet. If you do, you should not receive any parking tickets, nor be towed away or wheel clamped.

Do not expect to see any extra warning signs to indicate you are in an area with towing-away or clamping in force.

Remember, park with care in London as tickets cost up to £80 and towing away an extra £125.

I am adding 5 photos of the same subject, but I hope you'll look at all of them; I had such fun taking them! Duane & I are just back from a 2-day trip to the Adirondacks for a Maple Festival. Wouldn't you know my favorite photos would be of a domestic turkey we heard gobbling next door to one of the maple farms? We followed his voice & found him displaying in a nearby farmyard. Although there were a couple of hens in the yard, as soon as he saw us, he started walking toward the car & posed at the very edge of the hill next to us! He was coming so close that I really wondered if I'd need to roll up the window! He gave me a full-frontal pose for several minutes, but I had 2 batteries in a row that failed me & I missed that shot! Even so, he was very interesting & I loved photographing him! When I laughed, he gobbled. Fun! Seen in Warrensburg (Warren County), New York, USA on March 10, 2012. I've included the terms for the parts of a turkey's body, since I wasn't clear on them. I would think it might be difficult to maintain one's self-respect, that way that snood swings around when one moves!

Turkey Terms (Kidzone)

Caruncle - brightly colored growths on the throat region. Turns bright red when the turkey is upset or during courtship.

Gizzard - a part of a bird's stomach that contains tiny stones. It helps them grind up food for digestion.

Hen - a female turkey.

Poult - a baby turkey. A chick.

Snood - the flap of skin that hangs over the turkey's beak. Turns bright red when the turkey is upset or during courtship.

Tom - a male turkey. Also known as a gobbler.

Wattle - the flap of skin under the turkey's chin. Turns bright red when the turkey is upset or during courtship.

In the car heading towards the Hardy Monument. Now maintained by the National Trust.

We found that there is a car park near it.

The Hardy Monument is a 72-foot-high (22 m) monument on the summit of Black Down in Dorset, erected in 1844 by public subscription in memory of Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Hardy, flag captain of Admiral Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar. Admiral Hardy lived in Portesham and his family owned the Portesham estate which stretched from the middle of Portesham to Black Down. The site for the monument was chosen because the Hardy family wanted a monument which could be used as a landmark for shipping. The monument has been shown on navigational charts since 1846 and is visible from a distance of 60 miles (97 km).

The monument is situated on Black Down, a hill overlooking the English Channel near Portesham in Dorset, England, on the road between Abbotsbury and Martinstown. It was restored in 1900 by his descendants and bought in 1938 by the National Trust for the sum of £15.

The monument was designed to look like a spyglass, as Admiral Hardy would have used on board ship. Its eight corners are aligned with the compass points. Viewed from the ground the corner to the right of the lightning conductor points due south. The bench mark on the northwest face denotes the altitude of Black Down at 780 feet (240 m).

From the top of the monument at a height of 850 feet (260 m) above sea level it is possible on a clear day to see the coast from Start Point, Devon to St. Catherine's Point on the Isle of Wight, both of which are 56 miles (90 km) distant. To the north can be seen Pen Hill in the Mendip Hills which is 38 miles (61 km) away.

The monument was closed to the public in 2009 when major renovation work was required. This work was completed in January 2012. To date, the monument is regularly opened during the peak season, where visitors can climb the 120 steps to the viewpoint at the top.

The heathland area around the monument was in 1984 designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, when the Nature Conservancy Council decided that the geology of the area was very rare.

Adjacent to the monument is a stone seat erected in memory of Lt Col William Digby Oswald who was killed on the Somme in 1916.

Along the route of the Vermonter, almost all the VT/NH stations are on the west side of the tracks, while almost all the CT stations are on the east side. The train conveniently reverses direction in Palmer, MA, so that means you can stay in one seat and still see all the stations, at least as far as New Haven. Of course, I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who would care.

I was puzzled by this machinery as I had never seen anything like it in Australian vineyards until it was explained to me that in Australia we plant our vines close together to avoid sunburn whereas in Europe vines are planted further apart to enhance ripening. This means that this kind if machinery can operate without damaging the grapes. Sounds feasible to me.....

The rotating wafer support maintains flatness and position of 4", 6", 8", 10", 12", and 13.625" diameter wafers in order to achieve contamination-free contact angle readings while preserving flatness. Each wafer support is hand lapped to a high-tolerance. The support incorporates a rotating stage plate which is graduated in 1° increments with displacement holes for creating the appropriate suction. The wafer support mounts directly to the leveling stage of the Contact Angle Goniometer. Model 400 supports and includes an 8" wafer support (and other sizes can be added). Models 190, 200, 250, and 290 support the 4" wafer support only. Larger supports may require an upgrade kit which will extend the focal length of the camera and extend the microsyringe fixture. We offer kits which include all of the necessary parts.

This is one of the businesses where my company maintains the floors. I don't usually go along with my husband on large floor jobs but gas being as it is I went along. Being an artist I can find inspiration everywhere so I thought I'd bring my camera and computer to entertain myself.

Anyway let me tell you about this place. It's a bar that has beers from all over the world. The walls and ceiling are decorated with thousands of collector plates again from all over the world. I could probably look at these plates forever! Around the top part of the wall is the " Ring of Honor" If you pay to be a member and drink every one of their beers (Not in one night as there are hundreds of beers!) you get your own plate that will be engraved with the saying of your choice to be added to the wall. Every time you do it again you get a colored marker. (I could read the saying for hours also! I am such a dork!) It's a neat place after hours. I dont go there otherwise. Bars arent my bag.

Red Rocks Park is a mountain park in Jefferson County, Colorado, owned and maintained by the city of Denver as part of the Denver Mountain Parks system. The park is known for its very large red sandstone boulders. Many of these formations within the park have names, from the mushroom-shaped Seat of Pluto to the inclined Cave of the Seven Ladders.

The most visited rocks, around the amphitheater, are Creation Rock to the north, Ship Rock to the south, and Stage Rock to the east.

The rocks were formed about 290-296 million years ago when the Ancestral Rocky Mountains were eroded during the Pennsylvanian epoch. Later, uplift during the Laramide orogeny tilted the rocks to the angle at which they sit today.

The park was in times far past a favored campsite of the Ute tribe. Its earliest known name was the Garden of the Angels, reputedly given to it on July 4, 1870 by Martin Van Buren Luther, a pioneer Colorado judge. It was renamed Garden of the Titans in 1906 by famed editor John Brisben Walker when he purchased the place with proceeds from his sale of Cosmopolitan Magazine. Known however by the folk name of Red Rocks since the area was settled, it was formally given that name when Denver acquired it in 1928.

Within the park boundaries is the Red Rocks Amphitheater, a world famous venue used for over a century, which hosts many concerts and other events.

Faced with the stiff challenges of maintaining their competitive advantage in local retail, the rural communities of the Ismayilli and Shamakhi regions continued to rely on simple animal husbandry as their primary source of income.

One consequence of this heavy dependence on cattle breeding was overgrazing, which is the primary condition that the GEF-funded Sustainable Land and Forest Management in the Greater Caucasus landscape (SLFM) project has been working to address.

To decrease the reliance on cattle, the project supported alternative livelihood options – like beekeeping. In partnership with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and through ABAD (Azerbaijan State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations - Support to Family Business), the project offered small holder family businesses new avenues for broadening their economic pursuits and delivering locally-produced goods to the market.
