-The Crystal Cove State Park Historic District is about 60 miles south of Los Angeles.

-The 12.3 acres within the nearly 3,000-acre park, is perhaps most famous for its 46 rustic cottages originally built between the 20s and 50s—some of which first served as movie sets. In addition to the cottages that still line the shore and bluff, families of campers once spent entire summers in tents, or cabañas, right on the beach. Over time the tents and little campers became more and more elaborate to what is now the 46.

-It was a drop-off spot for Prohibition-era rumrunners, a destination for motorists during the early auto-touring movement, a staging ground for postwar tiki parties and luaus. Everyone would meet up for "Martini Hour," babysit, cook, and share food with each other. It became a huge family.

-In 1979, the Cove was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, which meant that everyone living there had to vacate. By 2001 everyone was gone and the area was slated for a resort. The plan however was resisted and brought to the state capital. The state agreed. Today, 22 of the cottages are open to the public. (About $100.00 per night) Each one has been restored to preserve the architectural charms of the original structures. In the future, the other 24 will be restored.

-If you wanna get a good look at the cottages check out 311's video "Amber"

-Enjoy

I think it's funny how some mailboxes resemble faces. And when you also consider that mailboxes are very personal in most cases and often carry some very personal thoughts the comparison works even more for me. ...Btw. I kept all the blemishes on the mailbox on purpose, since human faces aren't perfect either, right!?

Last stop to take pictures on the Route and I got fixated on these mailboxes.

Go figure.

Snow is a rarity in the San Juan Islands of the Puget Sound area but it has been snowing for three day here.

Our mailbox quietly awaits the mail carrier on a snowy Nevada County day. I used to get excited to receive mail, however, the only stuff that seems to come by snail mail these days are bills and advertisements.

I grew up along this ridge of the Endless Mountains of NE PA. A great place in the summer, but not so in the winter.

Noticed this pink building that used to be a restaurant. I don't know how long it's been closed. But I liked the color and found the mailbox interesting. This is SOOC.

It has been nearly too hot to hike in the woods where the air won't circulate in the valleys, so I've resorted to a quiet mid day stroll to the mailbox and along the gravel road to look for interesting things.

Yesterday the heat was 'close' as we northerners say. To simply stand around was to drip water.

These mailboxes belong to a small community of houseboat owners located on the waters of Granville Island, Vancouver BC. What I found interesting is that only one has a number on it and all are void of names, and while this community is obviously tightly knit, I am wondering where the postmaster fits in...... This snow-covered mailbox was seen north of Watsons Corners, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.

I thought that this was pretty cool. A mail box sitting out here. The house is off a distance. This is in Milpitas, CA.

I found this rather incongruous anchor for a mailbox on one of our rural roads. It looks like the mailbox needs to be replaced. Check out the hummingbird shaped flag on the side of it.
