The symbol of the Kadamba kingdom, an elephant trampling a horse is carved on the base of one of the columns of the Tambdisurla Mahadev temple in Goa. I had already left the temple itself and was standing a distance away, reading Wikipedia on my phone while waiting for my travel companions who were spending quite some time praying at the temple. Lucky I saw a mention of this sculpture and went back and asked the bored temple official who pointed me to this sculpture. The river Ragado, (via village Keri, Sattari) flows alongside the temple and is accessible for ritual bathing by a flight of steeep stone steps leading down to it. The gate leading to the steps was locked securely at the time of my visit- not that I would have attempted to climb down those steep setps and climb up again anyway. More notes and pictures of the temple appear elsewhere in this album. (see previous and subsequent pictures in this album). (Goa India, Nov/ Dec. 2022)
