This is a view from Chandragiri Hills in Nepal.

Chandragiri Hill (a popular tourist spot) is seven kilometres from Thankot, and lies on the south-west side of Kathmandu Valley which is 2551 metres above sea level. The hill provides panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan ranges from Annapurna to Everest. Chandragiri hill has cable car system to reach up to the temple of Bhaleshwor Mahadev.

Shivling forms the western gateway for the lower Gangotri Glacier, opposite the triple-peaked Bhagirathi massif. It lies on a spur projecting out from the main ridge that forms the southwest side of the Gangotri Glacier basin; this ridge contains other well-known peaks such as Bhagirathi, Thalay Sagar and Meru.

It was also called Mahadeo Ka Linga or (Mahadev Ka Linga) Appearing as a single pyramid when seen from Gaumukh, Shivling is actually a twin-summitted mountain, with the northeast summit being slightly higher than the southwest summit, 6,501 m (21,329 ft). Between Gaumukh and Shivling lies the Tapovan meadow, a popular pilgrimage site due to its inspiring view of the mountain.

Shivling is well-defended on all sides by steep rock faces; only the west flank has a moderate enough slope for snow accumulation.

Ancient Kashi, previously known as Benares and now called Varanasi, remains one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. This timeless city embodies enlightenment and liberation from the perpetual cycle of rebirth, driven by the force of karma.

In April 1987, I revisited this fabled city. As the late afternoon sun cast its enchanting spell, the Ganges river transcended reality, becoming a realm of timeless beauty. Ratneshwar Mahadev Mandir.

From my slide archives: the picture was originally photographed on Fuji Chrome film with my Nikon FE2 camera and 50mm lens. I photographed the slide bracketing it with a Nikon D850 camera and enhanced the picture in Lightroom, Photoshop, and Topaz.

Ancient stone idol of lord Ganesha at Shree Bhimeshwar Mahadev Jyotirlinga Mandir (Temple) in Bhimtal.

From the quiet flow of the river, the sun rises above the ancient ghats of Varanasi, bathing the city in golden light. Taken from a handboat, this image captures the magical harmony of river, light, and life. Shot with Nikon Z50.

"In the stillness of meditation, Shiva holds the universe within. The creator, the destroyer, the eternal force — he reminds us that from every ending comes a new beginning. The cosmic dance of life and death unfolds, yet through it all, Shiva remains unmoved, embodying the infinite power of transformation."

As they say, its Lord Shiva's town, you'll find him in every nook and corner here. However, I have seldom seen his depiction with a smile, given that he is the lord of destruction and rebirth.

Varanasi is like a breath of fresh air. If interested, see the albumfor more.

at Manikarnika Ghat

India, Varanasi (Benares) -2003

Krishnakumar Tiuari ( " Batji ") after performing puja in the Shultonkeshwar Mahadev mandir, Pryag Ghat, Varanasi. He is busy rebuilding the inside of this temple with new marble linings and tilework. The shiva lingam is a solid granite piece sprouting from the earth, as are many of the linga in Varanasi.

The best of people with a big heart and happy with his life. Batji is a pandit who spends his day sitting under his umberalla on the side of the Ganges, performing rites for the hordes of visiting pilgrims, taking holy baths in the river. A kind, humble deeply spiritual and very honest man who has become a great friend.

As seen from our camp at Bijli Mahadev, the first rays of the sun breaking on to the dome of Deo Tibba.

The dome shaped Deo Tibba is a beautiful peak situated in the Pir Panjal range of the Indian Himalaya in the Manali area of Himachal Pradesh, India. Deo Tibba consists of an extensive ice cap, the actual climb being a snow hump accessible once the edge of the ice plateau is reached. It also has the beauty of being just over the 6000 metre high mark which is a great achievement for any climber.
