In 1962, Page Newman built the Nobbys Beach chair-lift that later formed part of the Magic Mountain entertainment park. A cafeteria was built on top of the outcrop. It was a gamble that paid off. The chair-lift carried 40,000 people in its first year of operation. A Magic Castle was built, giving the park the "magic" theme. Intensive development commenced in 1983. $13.6M was spent to create the Magic Mountain theme park. Car parking was created onto and under the mountain. Attractions included a Parachute Tower, Wave Swinger rides and Magic Theatre. Magic Mountain closed in 1987 and the land was subdivided into two portions in 1993. The land was sold and is now the site of apartments, restaurants and shops. (Source of information: McRobbie, Alexander, 'The Fabulous Gold Coast', Pan News, Surfers Paradise, 1984

Notice of Availability and Public Hearing

for the

Newhall Ranch Resource Management and Development Plan (RMDP)

and the Spineflower Conservation Plan (SCP)

Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as Lead Agency under the National Environmental Policy Act and the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) as Lead Agency under the California Environmental Quality Act, have prepared a Draft EIS/EIR for consideration of The Newhall Land and Farming Company’s (Applicant’s) request for federal and state permits, agreements, and authorizations to implement the Newhall Ranch Resource Management and Development Plan (RMDP) and the Spineflower Conservation Plan (SCP). The RMDP (a conservation, mitigation, and permitting plan for sensitive biological resources within the previously approved Newhall Ranch Specific Plan area) would be relied upon to obtain federal and state permits to implement infrastructure improvements required to facilitate build-out of the approved Specific Plan and is intended to direct both resource management and development on the Specific Plan site. The SCP is a conservation and management plan to permanently protect and manage a system of preserves designed to maximize the long-term persistence of the San Fernando Valley spineflower (Chorizanthe parryi ssp. fernandina; spineflower), a federal candidate and a state-listed endangered plant species; to authorize the take of spineflower located outside designated preserves; and to address known spineflower within the Applicant’s land holdings located within the Specific Plan area and two adjacent areas, the Valencia Commerce Center and Entrada planning areas.

The Newhall Ranch Specific Plan was approved by Los Angeles County in May 2003 to guide development of a new community composed of a broad range of residential, mixed-use, and nonresidential land uses within villages on the Specific Plan site, located in a portion of the Santa Clara River Valley in north western Los Angeles County, between the city of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County/Ventura County jurisdictional boundary line. Subsequent development plans, subdivision maps, and federal and state permitting, consultations, and agreements were anticipated to be required to facilitate build-out of the Specific Plan. This joint EIS/EIR has been prepared at the direction of the USACE and DFG to analyze the direct, indirect, secondary, and cumulative impacts of the proposed RMDP/SCP, including impacts associated with project-specific infrastructure improvements and maintenance activities in or adjacent to the Santa Clara River and its tributaries located within the approved Specific Plan site.

USACE Public Hearing

The USACE and DFG will hold a public hearing on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. The hearing will take place at Rancho Pico Middle School, located at 26250 West Valencia Boulevard, Stevenson Ranch, California 91381.

The public hearing will provide the public an opportunity to become more familiar with the Project and the alternatives under consideration. The public hearing is an opportunity for interested parties to provide oral and written comments on the Draft EIS/EIR. The comments presented at the hearing will be recorded and entered into the public record.

Public Review Period

The public review period for the Draft EIS/EIR begins on April 27, 2009, and ends on June 26, 2009.

The Draft EIS/EIR concludes that the Project would have significant and unavoidable impacts to the environment in specific areas, including, among other environmental categories, biological resources, air quality, noise, agricultural resources, land use, visual resources, and solid waste. These environmental effects, and others, are described in further detail in the Draft EIS/EIR. Written comments on the Draft EIS/EIR must be postmarked or received by fax or e-mail no later than June 26, 2009. Send written comments to:

West Coast Bash 5 at Magic Mountain

Presented by Theme Park Review

& Ride World

we walked about half a mile up there from the hotel around 9 a.m. while everyone else ate breakfast late and managed to get in about 5-6 rides before the day was over! (Viper, a lame water ride, Tatsu (my favorite! you're basically strapped in so that your stomach is parallel to the ground and you can pretend you're superman flying over the park. the unexpected loop took me by such surprise as I flew downward headfirst that i stopped screaming), X, Goliath. the roller coaster here was X, which is pictured later.

we ate lunch after this with Andy and some of the other track kids who wandered by the food area we were at(free chicken strips courtesy of the lunch coupon andy got us) and then went on Goliath. everyone but me and geraldine, who wanted to play carnival games, went on the riddler's revenge( a stand-up roller coaster), and me and geraldine ended up getting a picture with Flash!

Today my second attempt to take pictures here. Hope you like it.

Old shot of X (pre-repaint) from the road leading up into Magic Mountain - I was staying at the Garden Inn at the bottom of the hill so saved $15 parking fee...

The ride was not actually running for a few months around when I visited this time so I had to come back a few years later...

Most of you know I love my dolls and really love to take pics of them! What you may not know is that I have an obsession with architecture and angles. Rollercoasters are a perfect subject for me. I hope you all enjoy these pics. I took them with you in mind. ♥

This is Tatsu, one of my favorite coasters at Six Flags. You can see other pics of the trains in my photostream. Once it is loaded, the hydraulics contract and you are suddenly staring at the ground, ready to fly through the twists, turns, and loops of Tatsu! Awesome!

Sunset with Johannesburg and Mixup as the backdrop. Behind Mike is a 300-foot drop onto the Cache Glacier. Don't lean back. Nikon D300, Nikkor 12-24mm, Nikon SB-30 handheld off camera left attached with SC-17 cord.

Der Looping ist mit 20 Metern der höchste Punkt des Kunstwerks.

Magic Mountain hotel is exactly what you think it is. It's a hotel shaped like a mountain that spews water from the top. It's located in Huilo Huilo, a private Natural Reserve in the Los Rios region of Chile.
