Acer negundo, the Box Elder or Manitoba Maple, is a life saver for migrating warblers on cold Pelee Island days. Among the first trees to leaf out, it can be one of the few sources of food available at times, harbouring lots of insects in its blooms.
There are several of them on the west beach of Fish Point Provincial Park and we call them "magic trees" because sometimes they will be filled with birds, often five or six warbler species at a time.

Growing up in Indiana, I was far, far removed from aspen trees. But when I studied the photos of masters like John Sexton that featured these trees, I noticed something very special. The way the bark of these trees reflects the light makes them often seem as though they have wrapped the light around their trunks, as if they are lit by a backlight even though there isn't one. Thus the left and right edges appear brighter than the middle, which in the context of a landscape is a sort of magical light. You might recreate something like that in a studio lighting setup, but it’s another thing to just get that in the middle of a bunch of trees. As fall has arrived and I have not yet captured any of the season’s change, I was looking through my photos from a 2014 trip to Colorado and this one spoke to me today. I’ve considered posting it many times before but for whatever reason chose to post other images. This little stand of aspens in Maroon Creek Valley, Colorado exemplifies this quality that certain aspens possess. Notice the sheen on either side of the trunks and how it makes these tree trunks really pop. I look forward to visiting with the cousins of these trees in the Sierra Nevada of California very soon, looking for the magic that these unique trees radiate.

Regno Unito, Londra, Syon Park, Autunno 2019
Syon Park è costituito da 30 acri di giardino e 200 acri di parco e dalla Syon House, la casa del Duca di Nothumberland. Questo parco è stato allestito alla metà del 18esimo secolo e comprende letti erbacei, un grande lago, un giardino di rose con 100 diverse varietà oltre a quasi 200 specie di alberi. “The Great Conservatory” è una magnifica serra che si trova proprio al centro del parco. L’Enchanted Woodland è un evento nel quale viene creato un sentiero illuminato che guida i visitatori attraverso il parco. Il sentiero si snoda intorno al lago nel quale si specchiano gli alberi illuminati di molteplici colori, con spettacolari opportunità fotografiche a dispetto del gelido inverno Londinese!
Syon Park encompasses 30 acres of gardens and 200 acres of parkland attached to the Duke of Northumberland's London home, Syon House. This park was created in the mid 18th century and it includes herbaceous beds, a large lake, a rose garden with 100 different varieties of old-fashioned rose and almost 200 species of tree. In the historic garden, the restored Great Conservatory - a magnificent building of glass and stone - forms the centrepiece. Syon Park’s Enchanted Woodland is a magical event which sees an illuminated trail laid out through the Gardens and Arboretum of Syon. The beautiful oak trees and gardens at Syon Park are illuminated in spectacular fashion as a guide walks visitors through the Enchanted Woodland. The trail leads you around the 18th century lake - where the shapes and textures of the ancient winter trees are reflected in the water - and past intriguing corners of the estate, all of it floodlit to maximum rainbow effect. The shadows and magic of a frosty winter's night make this an ideal opportunity for photographing the forest in a unique way.

Severe Warnings popped up for this lone cell by Oconto Nebraska with a nice TVS marker just south of the city. It was my calling to get my gear together and make a small jaunt north on Hwy 2 from Kearney Nebraska. This storm was to be in the Miller Nebraska (northwest of Kearney) area within the hour and I wasn't going to miss this show when its this close to home.
No other chasers on this storm and it was just this lone thunderstorm and me! Beautiful LP structure with clearly visible rotation on this storms' time lapse. Couldn't have asked for a better landscape setup with the pure flatness of northern part of South Central Nebraska.
Storm died out as this storm cell scooted almost directly due east it still had some luster left in her and she was showing off. Beautiful billowing thunderheads to end this chase day!

Manage to get out this morning but struggled to capture anything, of worth due to dense freezing fog. Sat in the car for almost two hours at one location waiting for the fog to lift, sadly it didn't. This was a chance encounter on my way back home.
