Messing around with a bit of Macro which I've never done before. Used a Cannon diopter which helped to get a bit closer.

 

Grater is on a yellow PVC board with flash underneath at 1/64 power. Had to balance the flash with 1000W Halogen light

I have to hold my hand up and say I got it wrong with my first submission by not reading the brief properly. Hopefully attempt number two fits the bill.

 

Taken on a Nikon 1 J5 fitted with a 18.5mm lens.

Some experiments with my new 100mm macro lens wide open turn out well - others are immediately deleted. I thought the extremely limited focus as well as the colorful bokeh in this one was interesting, so it made the cut...

None of the flies (or other insects) in my photos are frozen or dead. None have been manually 'posed'. All are photographed alive and well in their natural environment, unless they are being killed or eaten by another insect in the photo.
